  • r u selling any of these?

  • shut up and take my money!

  • @theninety99 hey im making one for halloween i just have a question. should i EL wire it or not plz reply

  • Willing to build something similar for me ?

how much would u charge ?

  • how do you see with this helmet!

  • I gotta make one of these.

The LED screen I could do no sweat, I've already made LED matrix displays.

But what method did you use to actually make the helmet?

And how did you make it look chrome?

  • how you make or where do you buy the leds circuit . and how can see?

    sorry for my bad english

  • The ALIVE 2007 CD is phenomenal.

  • so you can see directly tthrough the leds? thanksXD

  • is it possible that you can show me how to make a helmet but from a original design? and do you have contact info?

  • how exactly did you make the helemnt its self, and how did you make the jacket? im trying to make a daft costume for holloween/daft punk conserts.

  • Good I like the LEDs it looks so much like Thomas's

  • lamer

  • I love ur helmet!!!! Can u tell me how to do the part on the LED "ROBOT HUMAN ROBOT? Thanks

  • how did you make the inside flash

  • can you se in it? Does it feel ok? I want one for christmas

    Gona ask

  • How much...or how many people do I have to kill... Lol

  • looks more metalic then chrome still cool

  • How much do the LED's cost?

  • Could you give us a view from the inside? Like put the camera where your eyes would be.

  • how much did this cost to make?

  • this man deserves free chipotle for life!!

  • pleez respond, how much were the LED's??? pplleeeezzz

  • nice song

  • Can I buy this from you? D: Or tell me how to make it EXACTLY.

  • where did you buy your LED panel? and the price ?

  • you can see through the lights right? im hoping to have the same setup, can you tell me what the lighting is called?

  • @Collinthecruel

totally! Seeing through the lights is there - just tricky sometimes when you're in a crowded area.

    Lighting is LEDs.

  • @TheNinety99 Isn't it blinding you ? So much light in the helmet

  • how did you put the leds in it and how do you see out of it ?????

  • @destroyallhumans130

drilled holes through the plastic and glued them in place.

You look right past the lights no problem.

  • @TheNinety99 and what did you do to program the leds images? it is control that you can buy or you just porgramed the LEDS?

  • @destroyallhumans130 there leds leds are see through

  • what did u make the visor out of?

  • @crazyboy1179

I used clear plastic strips that were inserts for something. The key thing for them was their flexibility and visibility. Holes were drilled into them for the led wiring and then we tinted the second layer for the outside.

Note - you should leave air vents somewhere to reduce fogging, mine is super-glued all the way around.

  • hey im 11 and i was wondering could i buy that ?

  • @djdoublejs

    definitely - $1500 and it's yours.

  • @TheNinety99 can i get an age discount ? for like 1400 ? ahaa

  • thats the best thomas costume ever

  • @venomsaad

Thanks a lot! I'm proud of it.

  • how did you construct the helmet and get it's shape? what did you use a a base?

  • @illmatic380

Used the Pepakura 3D design posted by another youtube video. You print out the desing on cardstock and glue the pieces together to make the shape. Bondo and resin to get a useable helmet. Then sand, sand, sand, sand, sand and sand it until it's just right.

  • @TheNinety99 do u have the link for the pepakura design pleeeeeease?

  • @gmedina1988

search for pepakura, daft punk in youtube or google and you'll find it :D

  • how much would it cost 4 yu 2 build me 1??... if u noe any1 who makes these 4 a living??..i want 1 4 my djing!!..lol or wants 2 sell theirs let mee know yee!! well done..great acheivement..!! now DEADMAU5 MASK 2 BE MADE LOL :D

  • @1800JF

hey - I'm not really interested in making more but I would make another one for $1500. That's because of the amount of time needed to make it.

If that sounds like a lot then I recommend making your own :D I think it's a great project and I've outlined a lot of the information on how to do it! Best of luck!

  • i think the helmet was too big for your head because you had problems breathing

  • @extrudatinoal

Too small would be the only problem.

The bottom of the helmet JUST fit under my chin.

There is no ventilation inside the helmet nor is there any fresh air coming in - that's the problem with the fogging.

  • @TheNinety99 hmm i think your right on that. i shoudnt say too much because i havent even tryed the thing

  • My major issue is the LED's and Im wondering where you got the gear and what exactly did you get for these? They are amazing.

  • @rbarbour709

I used an electronic store in Michigan who was selling about 100 RED LEDs for about $10.00

I preferred red coloured LEDs rather than clear lenses that produce a red colour.

My first LEDs that I bought to try out were bought online from eBay.

  • @TheNinety99 can you still see out of it with all the leds? and how much $ and time did this project run you?

  • @ch33secake88

You can TOTALLY see out of the helmet. You're so close to the lights that you see right past them.

Roughly six months and $200.00 - the programming and the construction of the LED matrix caused me the most headaches.

  • @TheNinety99

Well it looks great dude, i wish i had the patience to do an awesome project and finish it. i think i could get past the molding and creating the helmet, but programming has always been a field i tend to fail in.

  • oh fuckwhistels i want one sooooooo badly

  • @extrudatinoal

I made this one - so can you!

  • @TheNinety99 i know but i dont know where to get bondo in norway neiter do i have the monney

  • @extrudatinoal

I'm not sure what materials are available to you in Norway but you don't HAVE to use bondo. If you look up other daft punk helmets, they use carboard or helmets from baseball or motorcycles. The big seller, of course, are the ligths - do that and you have an amazing helmet.

  • Thats awesome! canyou actually see out of the helmet? and how?

  • @Jerry11606

Yes you can see - you're up close to the lights so you see right past them. I was concerned at first about this but it proved not to be a problem at all.

  • where do you get this

  • Made it - about 8 months of work... mostly coding in C++ to get the right output images.

  • next halloween i wanna be that daft punk guy but where do you get the so called "leds" i wanna know so i can make the costume

    thank :)

  • ok - LED = Light Emitting Diodes

please visit the Nerdkits website (in info) to see how to wire the LEDs the way that I did. There are probably many other ways to do it, but this is the way I found to best create the images I wanted.

I searched Ebay for the LEDs but in the end I found a local electronics store that sold bags of 100 red LEDs nearby.

My recommendation - don't cheap out. I did on my original batch and I could tell the difference.

  • how many leds should i buy and how much should i spend on them???

    thnx

  • Up to you as to how many.

I ended up with some residual current running through the occasional one and I didn't know why. I'd stick with 5 rows and x columns (you pick x)

Just search electronic stores for LEDs online and buy 10 to start with. Start playing around with those and decide if you want more of the same or different.

Just get your hands dirty and you'll know :D

  • how much did it cost you to make it

  • About $300-$400 in materials.

Including Arduino board, LEDs, jacket, pants, studs, etc.

The BIG price is the consumption of time; roughly 800 man hours.

The beginning research/idea for the helmet was February. Main obstacles completed by August. September - October was insane busy.

  • Hi man !

    Really great helmet !

    I will do a one soon :)

But, how can you see through the leds ?

  • Seeing through the LEDs is no problem. You're close enough to the lights that you see right through them. It's like a screen door - from far away it's difficult to see through it, but up close you can see through it with now difficulty.

The LEDs are mounted on a sheet of clear plastic with a sheet of tinted plastic in front. The only problem I had with vision was fogging up the inside of the helmet when I would breathe.

  • Still great ;)

    Lets see mine

    =]

  • How's yours coming?

  • 1 word:

    WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW

  • Thanks, man :)

  • Impressive
