  • Ok, going to buy my first Marshall. Looking at Jvm 205c or Vintage Modern 2266c. Looking for that Stormy Monday, Dairy of a Mad Man, sound.

  • @ozverenok I have no idea what type of mic is in an ipod, but I have to ask; Have you ever tried recording with a Shure SM57 right in front of on of your speakers? Like about a couple inches off the grill cloth pointing directly at the speaker cone? This is how a lot of professional recordings are made and if you are looking for a raw sound, it doesn't get much rawer than that.

  • LES PAUL seems such a huge guitar on some people... :D Look at that :D he looks like a hobbit with that Gibson on :D

  • tasty playin sounds good

  • Well Hell yeah!!! I still use this amp as my number one amp.

    Shane Gang

  • would you recommend this amp for hard rock playing. i got a fulltone ocd which i could use to boost this amp up.

  • wow nice job!

Marshall should hire you to do amp demos instead of the ones I see on here for them you rock

  • wow. sounds like slash. awesome

  • hi can you compare for us (if you ever tried them) vintage modern with dsl and with jvm series? thank you

  • dont take this the wrong way but is your guitar huge or are you kind of small?

  • hey very nice playing and sound did you boost the signal whit any comp or somthing trough the effectsloop?

  • dude i love it! and where can i get a pair of those shorts?!

  • Nice vid thanks for posting

  • it 's a good amp but you gotta turn it up way to much for getting a good sound and wasn't versatile enough for me, but if you use it for gigging and play in a hardrock band this is the amp you need

  • Yes mine is Purple and I bought mine the a few months after they came out and they were all purple at that time. But they do offer them in Black now. Yes your right about this amp being able to do about any style. I still use mine almost on every gig I play. Marshall all the way.

    Shane Pasqualla

  • @58lespaulman

YEA I got a 10 watt purple vintage modern stack its pretty cool

  • I'm thinking of getting this amp. It sounded killer in the shop! Great for anything between Hendrix and Zeppelin to Guns n' Roses, and probably heavier stuff with some pedals. It has a descent clean as well, as far as I can tell. It just seems to fit my "needs" more than my current amp(Fender Custom Vibrolux).. Btw, Shane, is yours purple? The one I have my eye on is, and just wondering if it is that on everyone of them :p

    Cheers, great vid!

  • nice panties... oh and nice playing

  • Gibson Guitars and Fender Amps RULE !!! very Cool !

  • I'm deciding to buy this amp, but.... If i have to manually turn the gain knob down to get the clean sound, intead of a 1 click pedal switch. Wouldn't it be abit annoying when ur doing a gig and playing a song with clean and overdrive parts in it?

my question may sounds stupid, correct me if im wrong lol

  • @jayhaoliao

this how u get drive and cleans out of a one channel amp:

If you want a fat clean and a cutting gain: on your guitar, set the volume for the rhythm pickup on about 1.5-3 depending on how clean you want it. Keep ur bridge pickup on 10. When you want clean,go to rhythm pickup, when u want dirty, go to bridge pickup. If you wanted sparkly clean and creamy lead, just turn down the bridge pickup instead. Turning ur guitar volume down does little to the volume, instead it affects the gain

  • wtf are you even playing?

  • Smooth Played m8 :)

    I

  • Is that the real distortion? It's not bad at all, damN!

  • since the old plexis had two different volumes for different frequencies ( with the inputs jumped of course), and cranking volumes gives you tube saturation, is that the main idea of the body and detail? different frequency ames, but more vintage sounding?

  • Whats that song at 2:30?

  • OK a lot of people ask me how I set my Vintage Modern so I'm going to post this on all my clips that feature the VM, which is still my number one amp. Body 12:00, Detail 3:00, Presence 12:00, Bass Full up, Mids 12:30, Treble 11:00, Master V 11:00 or 12:00, Reverb 10:00 . This is done on the low dynamic . want more gain just turn the body and detail one more quarter turn. Always keep body at least a quarter turn behind the detail. The foot switch is very nice.

    Shane Pasqualla

  • wat is the footswitch like

  • is a 40 watts valvestate :D

  • dude you sound a lot like slash, and just need an opinion on this one which would you prefer the VM or A single channel 800

  • jcm 800 for sure

  • well slash used the vintage modern for his velvet revolver recordings so this is with a les paul it is the same setup as slash used

  • It depends what you are using it for. VM and 800s are different. Even the 800 range had differences. I've had both a 2203 and the VM, I still own the VM.

  • will this amp range from gnr tones to a more zep flavour because i really want a marshall that is reasonably versitle and not a stack( I cant currently afford a decent cab)

  • yeah i've used this amp before you can get some awesome GNR tones and zep tones out the vintage modern. great amp to buy

  • orange is over hyped poop

  • i have an orange and if you want zepp tone there is no better amp to pair with a les paul than the ad30. makes this sound like a tin can

  • Any amp made out of Baltic birch plywood and Classic 30 Celestions in it will sound great. Orange is just the name put on this particular amp.

  • it comes down to craftsmanship and now a days marshall seems to not care. if you buy a vintage modern, it is assembled in england, but all of the parts are made in china. orange makes and puts together all of their ad30's right here in the uk. costs the same, but what you get for your money with orange is much much more. i have played the vintage modern extensively and i even owned the head for about 9 months. the ad30 has better clean, overdrive and overall sound. more versatile as well

  • I agree with you on Marshall not caring, their quality control is shit, lots of their parts are plastic.

What it really comes down to is personal-preference. I own an AVT50 combo running through a Fender 412 Supersonic Cabinet, and have compared this it to my friend's Rockerverb 50. My setup completely out-shines his, and he was first to admit it.

It's about finding your sound, not reading a review on the Internet about "quality" and buying a $2,000 "name" before trying it for yourself.

  • exactly. i have a orange ad30 head running through a marshall 1960 lead slant cab and a vintage modern straight cab and it sounds much better than this does for a jimmy page/zepp sound. personal preference

  • You've got the hang of it : )

I have yet to try a 1960, describe it?

  • its amazing. best marshall cab that i have tried. you should deff try and try one because i love mine. very full and clear sounds. the slant cab will project and fill a room so well that you dont even need a full stack unless you have a huge venue.

  • do you listen to Montrose?

I bet you could play the hell out of I Got The Fire

  • made in England they don't make these in China. They are all made in England.

  • i have one valvestate and is made on england to :D

  • hey man, is the vintage modern made in china or england? some guy told me that they're made in china?!?!

  • Nothing wrong wit tat, do you A/B with the Fender twin for clean tones?

  • can this amp get a great zep tone?

  • yea check out mcpt400

  • hehe it gonna get Zep's tone really Accuratly on the Low Dynamic range

  • @NickZeppelin i have tried this amp and yes if you have a good gibson les paul plugged into this bad boy then you can get a great zep tone... but if you want more acurate zep tone then go for orange amplification i dont wich model he uses but he uses orange

  • @iggvf yep jimmy page did use an orange but along side that he used one of the vintage marshalls, probablly a jmb or a 1959lsp

  • Hey i got the same vintage modern as you and i was wondering do you think it increases in gain as you turn the volume up?

  • no shit its called a tube amp

  • Don't assume that everyone knows everything about things like these. You were a begginner once too.

  • hey as with all amps as you turn them up you will get a natural overdrive so yes it will be slightly more driven

  • That guitar looks massive on you lol!...nice

  • Major cool Les Paul man, great finish!

  • Sounds nice, you have great feel. Maybe a bit too much drive? :P

  • TSL 602 or the VM combo???? I can't decide

  • These sound so differently you should decide following the style of rock you play. Don't the TSL 602 feature more gain and less growly tones ?

  • Having trouble getting the settings right...care to share? Thanks!

  • Thats some fuckin sweet playin man!

  • that was improvising right?

can i ask what scales u used there? :D

  • major and minor pentatonic

  • ic ty

  • hahaha its a shame that il need to find a job even though im in school to get this amp! Keep rocking!

  • It's a light overdrive pedal with a bass and treble knob, and volume and gain. It also has a boost channel with it's own gain tone knobs. It also has a effects loop that you can hook up an EQ pedal to further shape the Tims sound. The Tim overdrive it the most transparent overdrive on the planet, which means it doesn't effect your main tone at all. When you turn the gain up it just sounds like you tunred the gain up on your amp.

    Shane Pasqualla

  • Great playing dude. I just made a trade for one of these for my Mesa Single Rec and I'm a bit nervous as to whether I'll like. It won't be here for a few days. Anyway, for the stupid question of the day... what's a TIM pedal?

  • $1799.99

  • Nice chops!

  • The amp has two dynamic settings, and this video is on the high more distorted setting, and the low dynamic setting is more like the clean hendrix style sound. Check out my video playing Led Zeppelin's Ten Years Gone and you'll see how awesome the cleans are on the Vintage Modern.

    Shane

  • how much was the amp?????

  • How would you get a clean sound on this amp? Would you turn the volume down on your guitar? Any help on this matter would be great :D

  • Soubds a bit too trebly for me. All the videos I've seen so far of the amp give me that impression. But I guess you can't beat the live feel of an amp. Paul Gilbert really gets these babies going, so it has to be good.

  • The true impact of any amp is putting it into the mix that it'll be utilized...the Vintage Modern cuts throught the mix nicely, especially for solos and less bottom-heavy rhythms...i.e., non-"modern rock" styles.

  • slash is really bluesy and uses this and its got some bass

  • Sweet Tone and Playing Dude!

  • I AM FREAKING JALEOUS

  • My country is yellow

  • nice slashy tone man! congrats. =)

    how much was it??

  • Yeah it's just you.

    Shane

  • not to be rude in any way but that les paul looks huge on you...or is it just me?

  • It may look big on him , but he plays like a giant .

  • There is usually a power switch and a standby switch that has to be turned on.

    Shane

  • ok i got a question, its a dumb one but, lol, how do you turn on a tube amp, i only own a solid state amp, i never even play through a tube amp

  • by switching the on button.

  • how´s the clean channel? can you get nice clean out of it? is that fender betten on cleans than the vintage modern?

  • why is that fender amp in the background on?

  • Keep the tubes warm probably

  • huh..huh..your fingers move a funny. way .huh.huh!!

  • dude wat distortion/overdrive u using?

  • hammer, das ROCKT!^^

  • Great licks man. Not to fast, not to slow. A little bit of rythem, a little solo...just right. Rock on fellow gtr bro.

  • I have been watching this clip for over a month. Anyway...my VM combo arrived today and I can't stop playing it!!! It's an addictive amp!!! Great playing :)

  • Thanks Shane, YOU made me bought the VM without even tryin' it. and it's the best amp I've ever had. Marshall should pay you for making these incredibles Youtube vidz.

  • keep Rockin!

  • how can you do this incredible improvisation???

    is amazing good job.

  • is this amp loud enough to be heard over drums and to gig and is there a footswitch to control the dynamic and reverb

  • Lol. Yeah for the first part.

  • hey awesome tone. usually how loud do u need a tube amp to be in order to get a tone like this?

  • Thanks guys. the Seymour Duncan Pickup booster is a clean volume booster pedal, which I think is a very nice pedal for volume boosting.

    Shane Pasqualla

  • love your sound !

    Nice playing too

  • Are you in low dynamic, or high dynamic mode? It's easy to boost when in low dynamic mode, but once your distorition is high, it comressing and that why it doesn't seem like it's boosting much. The Seymour Duncan pickup booster works really well at the end of chain.

    Shane Pasqualla

  • yeah,.,...what i want is volume boost.

its hard to get a volume boost with this amp.

Does Seymour Duncan pickup can give a volume boost?

  • does anyone know how to boost this amp? i have one, and i tried several boost/OD pedal but i cant seem to boost the volume level

  • i see some stuff on ebay, dont know if it works or not

  • what volume were you at to get that dirt? im watning to buy one to use for my dirty tones when i play live, but i have to keep stage volme down

  • Is it my speakers or is that the tone from the vintage modern i dunno... but it sounds really thin too me...

  • I think you have to take the kt66's out and put in KT88's to get the kick back by doubling the watt-eg ;)

  • every clip ive seen, this thing sounds thin, jangly and harsh

  • I love My Marshall VintageModern Amp! The tone you get on your LesPaul with the amp is a match made in rock and roll heaven. You've Got Smokin' riffs and skull crushing chops! Great jamming!

  • i'm going to buy this amp just for having that kind of slash -like overdrives

  • hey dude

Great playing! and a great amp too!

  • Hey could you help me out, I love the 2266 half-stack but a 4x12 is impractical for me to carry around, so how do you think the combo compares to the half-stack? Thanks.

  • Man! a little slow on the start, but you more than made up for it later on!!! Nice playing, and nice gear!

  • i got that amp :) it's amazin

  • Yes, I'ved experienced the same thing. But a lot of high gain tube amps act this way. I've owned a bunch.

    Shane

  • Hey, i'm noticing alot of hum with my preamps turned up past 3/4 with this amp..also the tranformer sounds loud as it powers on..Also is it normal for the kt66 tubes to make krinkly noises as they power up? thanks

  • i'm still trying to figure out whats so good about this amp

  • its natural distortion is that to be idolized u can achieve great hard rock classic rock and blues sounds without pedals or anything its just a very good amp

  • Changed to Genelex power tubes. Yes I still play every thursday night at the office lounge, which is in down town. Please come down sometime, it would be great.

  • Wicked tones, what tubes did you say you changed to in the VM? You still play wheeling? I'm from Cambridge, OH, we'll have to come down sometime and catch a show! Keep rippin' brotha!

  • fuckin sick would u be able to make tabs for me ?????????

  • no.

  • amazing ! fucking awesome tone and play !

  • amazing<3 i want to buy it.

  • man nice playin!! Is that a Fender Twin in the background? How does it match up to the vintage modern?

  • looks more like a deluxe reverb

  • yea i think your right

  • YES!

  • Do you like the TIM Pedal better than the moded DS 1's

  • SOUNDS GREAT!

  • sounds very good :) nice distorion

  • i just bought this amp!

it just screams with classic tones..i love it!! thanks for the vids, it helped push me in the right direction!

  • great tone!

  • ~Very cool sound...nice biting leads..~~

  • What pedal u use?

  • Hey man! Great tone. Have the same amp myself!what pedal do you use in front of the Marshall

  • your good!

  • Is the mid boost footswitchable?

  • awesome playing, sounds great....great hard rock - blues.

  • hey man, love your stuff... what do you use for recording your vids?

  • awesome playing!!!!!!!

  • They are the Firewater set, and they are treating me with the greatest tone I've ever had on a les paul. Thanks guys, these pickups rock.

  • Great tone! Which model pickups WB you in the guitar?

  • Nice!!! I love your tone and style!

  • rocks hard dude! ^^

    how're them WB's treatin' ya? ;)

  • 58LesPaulMan... so what happened to the R8...? lol great playing!

  • sounds alot like slash

  • The Klon Centaur, and Paul Cochrane TIM pedal. And I'm just running into the Marshall, not the Fender on this clip.

  • What two overdrive pedals are you using? and do you have that fender playing out clean? or both amps on overdrive?

  • Ha, thats from the two overdrive pedals not the amp.

  • Nice amp once it is going, but the hum would drive me nuts

  • Gibson RO is 1960 Reissue. The R stands for Reissue, and the 0 stands for 1960. 1959 Reissue would read R9 and so fourth.

  • what is Gibson R0? gibson reossue? and WB pickups? warner brothers pickups?

  • Paul Gilbert used this amp along with a Laney 2x12 combo on the G3 tour. I saw the show in Greensburg,Paul's hometown, and his

tone was better than it has ever been.

  • hello

    nice sound

    amazing really

can you tell me how much gain did you puit there?

and what's up with the equalization over there?

    can you tell me?

    please thanks

  • I'd love to hear my PRS 513 Rosewood though this amp.The tone of this amp is ery close to my VHT Deliverance D-120. Cool playing. Rock On! :)

  • very nice playin´ and tone dude ... of course you got a great guitar as well !!!

  • Now thats what a Marshall is suposed to sound

like, not like a fuzz box like some of the

    models but a driven machine.....hooah!

  • Fender 65 Blackface Deluxe Reissue.

  • its a very slash sound

  • What model is that Fender amp in the back?

  • The R0 is really incredible. The burst is great! The VM is a really cool amp, but the body-knob is pretty sensitive. The sound gets nasty if the knob is turned up...

  • Vintage/Modern huh? Hmmmm...that's a pretty darn tasty sounding amp! Not to mention the killer R0 plugged into it too! Sweet rig dude! ;-)

  • It came with the Guitar from the Gibson Custom Shop. It is a cool looking strap.

  • Cool guitar and amp too!

    Good job!

Could you tell me where did you buy your Slash style guitar strap?

  • I'm at about 10:00 oclock on the volume.

  • what volume level are you playing?

  • Nice man some realy well phrased bends in there and liks !!!

  • holy hot damn

  • Sounds GREAT! I love the Les Paul/Marshall sound! Nice RO by the way! The finish looks slightly faded. SWEET!!!

  • L to I to the C to K to the S!!! Mate you can make that Paul sing!!

  • Right On

  • Hell yeah!

  • Thank you man.. I love this amp. It works really well with the volume turned down.

  • Good sounding amp and nice looking guitar. Your video is featured on MyLesPaul. com
