@ozverenok I have no idea what type of mic is in an ipod, but I have to ask; Have you ever tried recording with a Shure SM57 right in front of on of your speakers? Like about a couple inches off the grill cloth pointing directly at the speaker cone? This is how a lot of professional recordings are made and if you are looking for a raw sound, it doesn't get much rawer than that.
it 's a good amp but you gotta turn it up way to much for getting a good sound and wasn't versatile enough for me, but if you use it for gigging and play in a hardrock band this is the amp you need
Yes mine is Purple and I bought mine the a few months after they came out and they were all purple at that time. But they do offer them in Black now. Yes your right about this amp being able to do about any style. I still use mine almost on every gig I play. Marshall all the way.
I'm thinking of getting this amp. It sounded killer in the shop! Great for anything between Hendrix and Zeppelin to Guns n' Roses, and probably heavier stuff with some pedals. It has a descent clean as well, as far as I can tell. It just seems to fit my "needs" more than my current amp(Fender Custom Vibrolux).. Btw, Shane, is yours purple? The one I have my eye on is, and just wondering if it is that on everyone of them :p
I'm deciding to buy this amp, but.... If i have to manually turn the gain knob down to get the clean sound, intead of a 1 click pedal switch. Wouldn't it be abit annoying when ur doing a gig and playing a song with clean and overdrive parts in it?
my question may sounds stupid, correct me if im wrong lol
this how u get drive and cleans out of a one channel amp:
If you want a fat clean and a cutting gain: on your guitar, set the volume for the rhythm pickup on about 1.5-3 depending on how clean you want it. Keep ur bridge pickup on 10. When you want clean,go to rhythm pickup, when u want dirty, go to bridge pickup. If you wanted sparkly clean and creamy lead, just turn down the bridge pickup instead. Turning ur guitar volume down does little to the volume, instead it affects the gain
since the old plexis had two different volumes for different frequencies ( with the inputs jumped of course), and cranking volumes gives you tube saturation, is that the main idea of the body and detail? different frequency ames, but more vintage sounding?
OK a lot of people ask me how I set my Vintage Modern so I'm going to post this on all my clips that feature the VM, which is still my number one amp. Body 12:00, Detail 3:00, Presence 12:00, Bass Full up, Mids 12:30, Treble 11:00, Master V 11:00 or 12:00, Reverb 10:00 . This is done on the low dynamic . want more gain just turn the body and detail one more quarter turn. Always keep body at least a quarter turn behind the detail. The foot switch is very nice.
It depends what you are using it for. VM and 800s are different. Even the 800 range had differences. I've had both a 2203 and the VM, I still own the VM.
will this amp range from gnr tones to a more zep flavour because i really want a marshall that is reasonably versitle and not a stack( I cant currently afford a decent cab)
it comes down to craftsmanship and now a days marshall seems to not care. if you buy a vintage modern, it is assembled in england, but all of the parts are made in china. orange makes and puts together all of their ad30's right here in the uk. costs the same, but what you get for your money with orange is much much more. i have played the vintage modern extensively and i even owned the head for about 9 months. the ad30 has better clean, overdrive and overall sound. more versatile as well
I agree with you on Marshall not caring, their quality control is shit, lots of their parts are plastic.
What it really comes down to is personal-preference. I own an AVT50 combo running through a Fender 412 Supersonic Cabinet, and have compared this it to my friend's Rockerverb 50. My setup completely out-shines his, and he was first to admit it.
It's about finding your sound, not reading a review on the Internet about "quality" and buying a $2,000 "name" before trying it for yourself.
exactly. i have a orange ad30 head running through a marshall 1960 lead slant cab and a vintage modern straight cab and it sounds much better than this does for a jimmy page/zepp sound. personal preference
its amazing. best marshall cab that i have tried. you should deff try and try one because i love mine. very full and clear sounds. the slant cab will project and fill a room so well that you dont even need a full stack unless you have a huge venue.
@NickZeppelin i have tried this amp and yes if you have a good gibson les paul plugged into this bad boy then you can get a great zep tone... but if you want more acurate zep tone then go for orange amplification i dont wich model he uses but he uses orange
It's a light overdrive pedal with a bass and treble knob, and volume and gain. It also has a boost channel with it's own gain tone knobs. It also has a effects loop that you can hook up an EQ pedal to further shape the Tims sound. The Tim overdrive it the most transparent overdrive on the planet, which means it doesn't effect your main tone at all. When you turn the gain up it just sounds like you tunred the gain up on your amp.
Great playing dude. I just made a trade for one of these for my Mesa Single Rec and I'm a bit nervous as to whether I'll like. It won't be here for a few days. Anyway, for the stupid question of the day... what's a TIM pedal?
The amp has two dynamic settings, and this video is on the high more distorted setting, and the low dynamic setting is more like the clean hendrix style sound. Check out my video playing Led Zeppelin's Ten Years Gone and you'll see how awesome the cleans are on the Vintage Modern.
Soubds a bit too trebly for me. All the videos I've seen so far of the amp give me that impression. But I guess you can't beat the live feel of an amp. Paul Gilbert really gets these babies going, so it has to be good.
The true impact of any amp is putting it into the mix that it'll be utilized...the Vintage Modern cuts throught the mix nicely, especially for solos and less bottom-heavy rhythms...i.e., non-"modern rock" styles.
I have been watching this clip for over a month. Anyway...my VM combo arrived today and I can't stop playing it!!! It's an addictive amp!!! Great playing :)
Thanks Shane, YOU made me bought the VM without even tryin' it. and it's the best amp I've ever had. Marshall should pay you for making these incredibles Youtube vidz.
Are you in low dynamic, or high dynamic mode? It's easy to boost when in low dynamic mode, but once your distorition is high, it comressing and that why it doesn't seem like it's boosting much. The Seymour Duncan pickup booster works really well at the end of chain.
I love My Marshall VintageModern Amp! The tone you get on your LesPaul with the amp is a match made in rock and roll heaven. You've Got Smokin' riffs and skull crushing chops! Great jamming!
Hey could you help me out, I love the 2266 half-stack but a 4x12 is impractical for me to carry around, so how do you think the combo compares to the half-stack? Thanks.
Hey, i'm noticing alot of hum with my preamps turned up past 3/4 with this amp..also the tranformer sounds loud as it powers on..Also is it normal for the kt66 tubes to make krinkly noises as they power up? thanks
its natural distortion is that to be idolized u can achieve great hard rock classic rock and blues sounds without pedals or anything its just a very good amp
Changed to Genelex power tubes. Yes I still play every thursday night at the office lounge, which is in down town. Please come down sometime, it would be great.
Wicked tones, what tubes did you say you changed to in the VM? You still play wheeling? I'm from Cambridge, OH, we'll have to come down sometime and catch a show! Keep rippin' brotha!
The R0 is really incredible. The burst is great! The VM is a really cool amp, but the body-knob is pretty sensitive. The sound gets nasty if the knob is turned up...
Ok, going to buy my first Marshall. Looking at Jvm 205c or Vintage Modern 2266c. Looking for that Stormy Monday, Dairy of a Mad Man, sound.

Gibson RO is 1960 Reissue. The R stands for Reissue, and the 0 stands for 1960. 1959 Reissue would read R9 and so fourth.

Paul Gilbert used this amp along with a Laney 2x12 combo on the G3 tour. I saw the show in Greensburg,Paul's hometown, and his
tone was better than it has ever been.

The R0 is really incredible. The burst is great! The VM is a really cool amp, but the body-knob is pretty sensitive. The sound gets nasty if the knob is turned up...

Vintage/Modern huh? Hmmmm...that's a pretty darn tasty sounding amp! Not to mention the killer R0 plugged into it too! Sweet rig dude! ;-)

It came with the Guitar from the Gibson Custom Shop. It is a cool looking strap.
