  • Hawaii is taxing ze importation of tourists not unlike the Bahamas, and this should in my opinion be done at the border of each state, if only to raise the budget for improving and maintiaining the beautification of each state of America......all those in favor say aye and nominate Warren for President someday somewhere somehow. say goodnight Josephine.,

  • Is it just me, or is there something very special about the way he holds that Oscar?...??!:)

  • Uh, - did you ever see him in "PROMISE HER ANYTHING" or SPLENDOR w/ NATALIE WOOD<

EVEN his first movie Bonnie and CLYDE he wrote starred and co-directed and yet in HEAVEN CAN WAIT< I DARE DEFY ANY MALE FACE OR VOICE BODY OR TALENT AS AN ACTOR Also writer of an original screenplay adopted for screen also nominated and I believe also won this year an Oscar with Elaine May....Sorry for ramblin.

  • amazing, to beat out Speilberg for raisders Of the Lost Ark, and the director of 'On Golden Pond'. On a side note after all these years, we still have a lack of sensorship, and there are about 100 amendments to the Bill Of Rights I personally would love to discuss and reform with Wareen Beatty, purely political meeting mind you.

Frank.ly speaking I think he would make a marvelous senator. Good real life role to start.

  • I was supposed to be the star of this film, but I was too young at the time. ha ha just kidding~

  • I wish Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau were still alive. They could have presented Best Picture tonight.

  • MsCarlettina its the theme from the odd couple.I think the theme was first used for the film then the tv show.

  • Diane Keaton looks so in love with him at the end!

  • steven spielberg raiders of the lost ark indiana jones!!!! c'mon!!!

  • what's the name of the song while jack lemmon and walter matthau are appearing? It was at the end of a tv movie, but I do non remember which one maybe colombo?

  • Funny how Beatty thanks Elaine May and Jeremy Pikser and then basically spits on them with his later works ("Ishtar" and "Bulworth" respectively).

  • Awesome speech, right up there with what Soderbergh said. What Warren says here reminds me a lot of what it was like watching "Lenny" and makes me wanna see Reds so bad! Too bad Bob Fosse wasn't able to deliver this sort of speech in reference to that film.

  • Duvall is one of those actors who, if I'm flicking through the channels on the tv and see him, whatever it is, whether ive seen or not, i watch it.

  • Beatty was up for four Oscars for Reds. Four Oscar nods for Heaven Can Wait three years before that. First person since Orson Welles to pull that off.

  • Lemmon & Matthau the best Odd Couple ever

  • @joliecide The only odd couple.

  • Lemmon doesn't seem shocked at all, was Beatty SUPPOSED to win this thing! Pretty cool to win it from your sister's co-star.

Spielberg's glasses are nasty in this clip.

  • Gran pelicula Reds ,la acabo de ver es fantastica !!!

    beautiful film "Reds"( 1981)

  • I do love these two guys. :-) Uncle Jack and Uncle Walter. Miss you heaps. xxxx

  • Did Beatty don glasses to try and give himself more of a "directorial look"?

  • @TheCedricCeballos It seems like he was wearing glasses throughout his entire relationship with Diane Keaton. lol. Maybe he really loved the film Annie Hall.

  • @TheCedricCeballos

No, without glasses he is - to quote Joan Collins, his fiancee in the late fifties/early sixties - "blind as a bat". He still wears glasses, next to contacts, because he is extremely myopic.

  • What a great year for movies. I enjoyed all those films.

Warren (i can't stand his sister) Beatty rocks.

  • @solidchef I was never a Beatty fan- look at how many relationships he's ruined with his ego. There's a reason why he's won only once in 14 nominations. As Estelle Parsons said, the Academy hates him. That's why "Reds" didn't win Best Picture that night.

  • Spielberg deserved it but Reds is nearly as great as Raiders, they both had obstacles to overcome with the voters (Raiders being a genre film and Reds' content), Spielberg deservedly won twice later, I can see why Beatty won (Oscar loves rewarding actors who multitask) and he gave a fantastic speech.

  • @jarred160788 out of all actors turned directors, beatty is the only one who deserved it. redford, costner and gibson did not

  • @vadimzdonutube What about Clint Eastwood's wins?

  • @Tigerlily21 oh yeah i forgot about him too

  • I love Warren but Atlantic City was visual poetry.

  • Epic presenters! And a classy speech by Mr. Beatty! Well deserved award.

  • did anyone hear warren said he wanna thank Julie Christie @@?

  • I can't believe how many people are saying Spielberg should have won for the Indiana Jones flick. Indiana Jones was a lot of fun, but are you serious? Have you people actually seen Reds? It's epic and it's a masterpiece. Beatty deserved it easily. Spielberg got the one he deserved...for Schindler's List. He should be happy he even got nominated for an Indiana Jones movie.

  • @Tigerlily21 +1

  • great speech. fantastic film. i would've given louis malle the award personally but this was a great, great choice.

  • Steven Spielberg

  • 'Reds' is not a perfect movie, but it is an extremely ambitious movie in American movie history. This was Warren Beatty's only Oscar (he missed out for Bonnie and Clyde in 1967, which he acted in and produced, but didn't direct). Spielberg would later win Oscars for 'Schindler's List' and 'Saving Private Ryan'. Thanks so much for posting this clip, I've been looking for it for years! :)

  • As much as I love Warren Beatty I have to say Steven Spielberg should have definitely won.

  • @grievous1 Yeah the guy who put aliens in Indiana Jones. Right.

  • @diny989

Scorsese was nominated the previous year. This is the 1981 Oscar, not the 1980 one.

  • Jack (Nicholson) just looks so evil with that grin.

  • @kingcaesar5 It scared the doctor at birth.

  • I love Walter and Jack. Two wonderful performers whose talents will never be replaced. Warren never looked as good as here in the early '80s and career wise, was also at the top of his game. Reds was a wonderful film and Warren, I believe, deserved the Oscar that year.

  • Jack and Walter were great together!!!! I just love it when they presented together!!!!! RIP Jack and Walter!!!!!

  • "and my chances of speaking with you private moment are at the moment excellent" lol. That's charming. He and Diane Keaton were dating at the time. She was amazing in his movie too.

  • THANKS FOR THE UPLOAD! hope Warren's Thalberg award speech is on the queue! again thanks for the upload! :)

  • I still can't believe they didn't give it to Scorsese for what I think it's his BEST film!
