emo became a subculture it started out as a music movement sorta like what happened with punk and today's emo is not like the first emo. emo used to have a large punk and grunge influence with a goth look overall ur statements are correct but you are sorta giving people the idea that emo is punk when they are completely different punk has a message emo is just whiny although an occasional good band does pop up
