if I only learned one thing from Mark Levin, that is "private property rights". That's enough to convince me to become a conservative. P.P.R. hits me home, when I own my home I want to be able to keep my property as I pay taxes on it as well as I pay tax on everything else.
I love the people on here saying that Levin is an idiot, he doesn't know what he's talking about, yet seem to ignore this fact.
Date of the speech 11/05/09
Listen at about 4:20 (no pun intended LOL) and listen to the prediction.
This was not the first time he made this prediction and I'll let you go back over the 2010 election results yourself to see dtermine if he was right or not.

mark levin is such a baby. whining about every little thing wrong with this great country which by the way has made him very wealthy and well know to his closeminded conservatives .
Envy tisk tisk, Mark cares about this country but your just jealous of his money and power??? You can't think about the people's needs, you're an ass. Ron Paul is a weirdo
This is hilarious! Statist/liberal sheep can't defend the nonsense they believe. They can only criticize and attack those of us on the right; usually on the most snarky, personal, petty level.
lol i just have say the US as never killed 70million of its own ppl like China did or the 28 million that the USSR did so ppl no the left learn your history before you speak
I'm not saying EVERY post on the Chomsky video was reflective, there were idiots there as well, and I'm not saying EVERY poster in the Levin forum is an idiot and full of fear- but the pattern becomes abundantly clear the more videos you visit.
I challenge you to try this experiment. It won't take long.
I'm a leftist and I can explain why with a very rational analysis of our government as it actually exists today (not as a phantom socialist state that doesn't exist).
Corporations have taken over our republic and are destroying it.
I find that absolutely self-evident- and the evidence is overwhelming.
I'd love to hear you try to refute that using REASON and FACTS.
Yes, Zimm, his points are so vivid and truthful..."Aliens are taking over the country" He doesn't need to tell us who the aliens are or what they want, but he can personally guarantee that every illegal immigrant is a legitimately good person. He's never met a single one, but he knooooooows all. His facts are incredible. And I don't even know who this Chomsky guy is, but I can trust that he's a genius - Just like Zimm can trust masses of NS-13 members to be good citizens. I love peace
Pardon me, I meant "MS-13." See, I don't have any facts because I'm an idiot, so I had a typo there...If only I was a Genius like Zimm "The stupidity of War" - See, War is useless. It's not like America, the freest country in the world, was FORMED by a war or anything like that...Peace brings us amazing, great, fun places like Rwanda - Good thing we never intervened there...The modern concept of peace is great and totally not generalized or ignorant
I think you have things entirely backwards- it is endless WAR that ravished our planet today- and somehow, you portray peace as the threat.
Sadly, you represent just another American indoctrination- while your govt kills people abroad, you mindlessly and inaccurately describe it as protecting peace.
You kind of sicken me with your willful ignorance.
Hahahaha, you act like you can just say "Hey, everybody, let;s have good time!" - And the whole world will just settle down and be at peace. That is physically impossible when you have countries like Afghanistan with people people trained from birth to KILL and DESTROY (PS: I call him Zimm 'Cause he reminds me of invader Zim) Truth be told, this modern war in Afghanistan is about nothing but drugs, but oh well. War itself is simply a reaction
Do you really need me to tell you what needless wars we have engaged in?
OK- but it's sad that you don't know your own country's history.
Tops on the list has to be vietnam. We brutally murdered MILLIONS of human beings- and nobody has EVER come up with a valid reason why we were there or why we NEEDED to be there.
How about every other action since WW2- both Iraq wars, panama, Grenada, Korea, Afghanistan, etc.
Additionally, we love to overthrow democratically elected govts- chile, iran, etc.
Reason for Vietnam? I guess the deaths of 4 million people by the Khmer Rouge just isn't enough. (Mind you, we pulled out and caused about a million more deaths) Iran is your example of a democratic government? Wow, I can't believe you're the one telling me I don't know anything. The Korean War was just an extension of the Pacific War. See, Korea was occupied by the Japanese during WW2 and what we were trying to do was remove them. Then we came to a truce and ended up with jolly old North Korea!
Who is Buddha? Buddha isn't a person, you freaking moron. Buddha is a state of enlightenment in which a person becomes essentially perfect. Buddha is NOT a person or a singular thing. There have been many Buddhas (IE: Siddhartha Gauttama and Boddhidharma). Wtf are you talking about? We bombed Cambodia because that's where the freaking Khmer Rouge were! The war in Vietnam wasn't just about the NVAs and the Vietcong!
I never said we were protecting OURSELVES.Nobody ever said that EVER unless they're completely retarded. All these most recent wars had nothing to do with us. We were in Iraq to aid the military there because they CALLED FOR OUR HELP! . And wtf is a corporate agenda? Can you explain? Are you saying Liberally-Biased press like the New York Times and the Washington Post have no corporate sponsors? If you are, you have the whole thing completely backwards - And stop freaking say "Bye"
we didn't want to invade Iraq, the Iraqis asked us to?
Oh my fucking god! That is even crazier than some other idiot I'm debating who says the Iraqi invasion was justified and that Saddam was a threat to us.
Do you people have ANY memory at all, or has the hyper-partisanship seriously sewn your brains shut?
What the fuck is going on with you people????
Bush said Saddam was going to blow us the fuck up- and then we invaded.
Why should I read a book by Zinn? It's clearly going to be biased, Just like Beck's and Limbaugh's books are going to be conservatively biased. Stop reading peoples' opinions and start reading facts, man. And I like how you evaded my question just to insult me. Obviously, we went there to stop Saddam, but I was responding to you talking about us "Occupying Iraq" We stayed there to train their military. Here's a challenge: Name three of the enemy groups we're fighting in Afghanistan and Iraq.
You should read a book by Zinn for the same reason I have read books by right wing rhetoricians; it's all about intellectual honesty and having well informed opinions.
As the great John Stuart Mill wrote in his essay "On Liberty":
The only way in which a human being can make some approach to knowing the whole of a subject is by hearing what can be said about it by persons of every variety of opinion.
If you think Zinn's book will be BS, then engage it CRITICALLY and track his mistakes.
Also, you write: stop reading opinions and start reading facts.
I think this conveys a fundamental misunderstanding of history. There are no facts outside of opinions, and ALL history is subjective- even textbooks.
When you say "start reading facts", where exactly do you recommend I find those unbiased facts? I don't believe they can possibly exist.
Well I called him an idiot a few times, but he just keeps coming and coming with the stereotypes. The thing is, I study history from many books that are actually written by more than one person, and that actually get their facts from many different people. But I DO watch more things that disagree with me than ones that do. Like those freaking retarded Morons at The Young Turks here on Youtube - or watching full speeches from guys like Zinn. I'm not just some gun-toting hick here.
Isn't the Union agenda to maximize profits through wage increases and benefits?
What you're failing to realize is that through the price incentive, the competition of companies provides an environment where it is more profitable to provide a better product, or a lower price to the patrons. Therefore the company that can provide the best product or the lowest price in a competitive market deserves to be rewarded through profit from its patrons that do business with it.
What YOU fail to realize is that this system of competition that you seem to favor always results in oligarchy and corruption.
Here is what happens: there is competition and someone wins. That company grows and gets really big. Then, the company gets SO big, that it becomes cost effective to just buy congress, rather than deal with the market forces that are supposed to control everything.
Well if you grab a history book you will see that the U.S. has anti-trust laws and the Constitution has the Commerce Clause which give the U.S. Government the power to deconstruct businesses that interfere with the Capitalist tenant of competition, ever heard of Standard Oil or Microsoft?
And your answer to supposed oligarchy and corruption of Capitalism is through tyranny by the government which has the monopoly use of military and police force which NO BUSINESS HAS.
laws that inhibit corporate greed and power aren't worth anything if the corporate whores we elect won't ENFORCE them.
My answer to oligarchy is what? When did I advocate a govt takeover?
I happen to be an educationalist- a belief that states in any given society, the primary factor determining amount of govt representation and overall health of a society is the education level attained by the majority of its citizens.
We, in the USA, are nitwits. THAT is why our system doesn't work.
Um, how are they not enforced? We now have 5 banks controlling almost our entire national wealth. we now have 6 media companies running 95% of our media.
How are they not enforced?
I think it would be far easier for you to tell me how they ARE enforced.
Who is to do the teaching?
How about people that are trained to do the teaching?
Educating the populous that decides how it spends its money is still using Capitalist means to an end.
If there is a monopoly in any sector then yea, I agree, it should definitely be broken up as it interferes with the Capitalist process.
The government throws billions of tax dollars at education and the education system is still a joke. The change in education has to be structural, not necessarily financial.
I've read your last few comments before you replied so anything before I missed.
I'm not interested in companies that interfere with the capitalist process- MY main concern is with companies who interfere in our politics and deny us the representation we are entitled to.
Look at our govt right now- they are all corporate whores. The insurance industry has given out hundreds of millions of dollars over the last 10 years to them.
The financial sector has donated over 2 BILLION dollars to our govt over the last 10 years.
And we sit around and wonder why the govt doesn't work
I agree that the answer the fixing education isn't simply throwing money at a broken system.
Our system is broken on several levels- the most important being the disparity in funding between schools in good neighborhoods v schools in bad ones- this perpetuates our permanent class war.
Also, the curriculum acts as a tool of indoctrination rather than a facilitator of critical thought (in far too many cases).
Lastly, we need to INCREASE teacher salaries to increase competition for those jobs.
The education system doesn't work because you have a government monopoly and a strong teachers union. Once a teacher attains tenure, its almost impossible to remove them from the payroll. The problem with the education system is that you have too much job security. Also, teachers are paid on how difficult the job of teaching is. Whatever your opinion, teaching requires a low-moderate level of intellect, so more people can do it, therefore if the pay was too high there would be a disparity.
The average teacher, mostly the elementary and high-school levels, is not a shining example of intellect. Just because you rattled off 4 famous teachers doesn't mean anything. Besides that they were philosophers first, teachers second.
American genocide since it's founding? I suppose your referencing the Indian conflicts, however the Indians were a warring faction, just because the United States defeated the Indians doesn't mean its genocide.
I agree that most teachers are not very bright- but I do NOT agree that teaching isn't a difficult job and doesn't require a great intellect. That is nonsense.
So these teachers we have that aren't very bright- guess what? They aren't good teachers! We do have some excellent teachers that are very intelligent people.
You've never tried to teach. Why don't you go try and then come back and tell me how "easy" it is. It isn't. In fact, to do it well, teaching is probably the hardest job out there
White Europeans engaged in genocide against the native Americans. The history is vast- go do some reading.
I never said Vietnam and Iraq were genocides- although we have certainly done everything we can to help destroy Iraqi society- our latest adventure killing hundreds of thousands and forcing millions to flee the country as refugees (a story that NEVER gets air on our corporate media)- this just another step in a long line- including arming and funding Saddam in the 80's.
The U.S. was funding Saddam in the 1980's because Iraq was engaged in the Iraq-Iran war which started right after the Iran Hostage Crisis, I think it's you that needs to engage in some critical thinking and not repeat the same indoctrinated bullshit I heard from my socialist college professors.
Besides that you're using presentism to analyze the past, which is analytically incorrect. You scrutinize the interactions between groups by the societies they lived in, not by our standards today.
If the US was funding Iraq because they were engaged in a war against Iran (which makes PERFECT sense- sarcasm!)- why was the US also illegally shipping weapons to Iran?
Your socialist professors told you about the reagan admin funding and arming saddam during the period when he committed his WORST atrocities?
Oh, you poor baby- how ever did you handle that harsh truth?
I don't think the values of mass murder and hypocrisy have changed at all- presentism works just fine here.
However,I won't bother replying anymore. I didn't expect to change your views, but with every comment you just seem more and more like a brainwashed moron, and I won't damage my intelligence by reading more of your comments.
I would argue that the CENTRAL reason why our schools don't work is because they don't instill the ONE thing education should be focused on: critical thinking.
The curriculum in most schools is a provincial, jingoistic, pro-american fantasy that bears very little resemblance to the realities of living in an empire that kills millions of people- from the genocide of our founding to vietnam and iraq today.
If our education system was honest and instilled critical thought- it would work fine.
Look around? If you don't like doing business with supposedly corrupt companies, guess what, you don't have to and if other people want to do business with them, then that is their choice. Democracy in action.
Besides that the Private Sector is made up of thousands of competing factions, therefore it is impossible for one faction to "buy" Congress as the influence over Congress is split between competing groups IE environmentalists vs industrial businesses.
I will refer you back to my critique of education (previous post). You can't have the consumer acting as a check on market forces if the consumer is an indoctrinated, brain-dead, ahistorical fool.
Influence in congress is NOT split between competing factions- influence in congress is determined by contributions. period. environmentalists have a little bit of cash. the oil giants have a lot more. Not exactly equal representation- and the legislation shows it.
And who are you to determine whether the populous is indoctrinated? That's your opinion.
Last I check Greenpeace was one of the largest interest groups in the United States.
OPEC's monopoly of Middle East oil production and the Environmentalist hampering of oil production in the U.S. caused the high oil prices, not the oil companies. The oil companies had high revenue because they were paying high prices which were passed onto the consumer.
I disagree with your analysis as to why oil pieces shot up years ago. I blame political instability- which was largely CREATED by the oil companies themselves.
Are you one of those guys who naively believes the private sector can NEVER do wrong, and that everything is the govt's fault?
But where there is a problem, the market will create a solution in order to attain profit. The Green Movement is a result of higher energy prices, not of Government coercion.
And BTW you said Capitalism results in corporate oligarchy, well the only way to take away power from private owners is through government coercion, so you didn't need to explicitly say you want government takeover, however govt takeover is the only way you can change the power of corporations.
Not true- you can change the power structure of corporations by having a VERY well educated and INFORMED citizenry. It does NOT require a govt takeover- nor have I EVER advocated such a position.
Investments in education and a breakup of the corporate media monopolies will go a long way towards decreasing the ubiquitous corruption that currently plagues our broken system.
Vague responses? I freaking quoted that Zinn guy! That Aliens Taking Over the Country is one of his most famous quotes? Don't tell me I'm wrong, because I just freaking watched that speech! The business about peace was a direct response to what he stands for. Read a little more about Zinn and then read my comment.
PS: There were 3 Iraq wars, not two. 3: Operation Desert Shield, Operation Desert Storm, and Operation Iraqi Freedom. Stop coming to random generalized conclusions based on the fact that you disagree with me, stop calling me an uneducated moron ( I'm Paraphrasing), and actually read what I'm saying! We have over 700 bases all over for a multitude of reasons, mostly being that people PLEAD to us for defense (Or in places like Japan, because we had to secure that they didn't start another war)
also, it's just a freakin' expression. I found myself going to write "thank god", as the popular expression goes, but as an agnostic, I am trying to be more careful about my use of language- because of the pernicious effects on the psyche- so I wrote "Thank Buddha" instead.
Buddhism is the only organized religion (well, Taoism as well) that doesn't tend to offend my agnostic sensibilities.
what critique? you said something about aliens and then something about peace. You never quoted Zinn, and your vague, ambiguous responses force me to conclude you have NO IDEA what you are talking about.
who is Zimm and when did he say aliens are taking over the country?
I think you have this Zimm person confused with the great American historian and hero Howard ZINN! His book "A People's History of the United States, 1492-present" might be the best history of the USA ever written.
The fact that you have never heard of Noam Chomsky is PROOF of how censored our society is- Chomsky is probably the premier American intellectual alive today- he has written over 100 books about politics and language
Neither Noam Chomsky or Howard Zinn are very good philosophers. Chomsky is a linguist, Zinn is a historian, I like both of them but they don't know what they're talking about when it comes to ethics, political philosophy, or metaphysics. I doubt either of them understand the philosophical justifications for private property ( you really can't support private property as a leftist). But the extremes (right and left) are usually more civil and rational than the pseudo ideologues.
a leftist can support private property- in fact, you would have an IMPOSSIBLE time finding an American liberal that is calling for communism or the abolishment of private property.
What concerns many leftists today is the disparity in wealth and the disproportionate state of our economy where the top 1% controls far too much wealth.
That kind of economic disparity ALWAYS leads to serious political problems- which is why de tocqueville talks so much about our egalitarian nature in the 1830's
@cgarfink12 I can think of other ways to redistribute wealth. In fact, here are some ways to redistribute wealth from the poor to the rich- get rid of as many unions as possible; run huge national and state deficits, thereby forcing the state to cut social programs.
And that is what the repubs do- Reagan and Bush- same playbook- run up huge record deficits, and then, because we have no money now, we have to cut all these programs that used to help poor people. Oh no! (sarcasm!)
IS IT TIME?! Go to USRevolution2 (dot com) and get your flag of the Second American Revolution. Theyre made in America and look exactly like the flag of Betsy Ross with a Roman numeral II in the center of the 13 stars. This flag is now in all 50 states and spreading from porch to porch and theyre only $19.95 plus shipping and handling.
Little Mark Levin. The quintessential RepubliCon chickenhawk. Like Junior Bush and Draft Dodgin Dick Cheney, Levin loves war as long as other people are doing the fighting and bleeding.
And just last year Levin was crowing about the "Bush Boom"
if noone took him seriously, and he was so crazy, and he was such a drug addict, which hes not, noone would listen to him. but since they do, your argument against him in no way, shape or form works, because it simply doesnt make any sense. thats why conservative talk radio makes up 90% of all radio shows in the US, because nobody likes to listen liberal talk radio, same as why Fox crushes MSNBC and CNN in ratings.
"i did not enter the military because there was no conflict at the time"
Uh, no. Even though Limpdick Limbaugh claims he supported the Vietnam War, you'll find that he dodged the Vietnam draft because of an "anal cyst". Maybe that's why Limbaugh is obsessed with "anal poisoning".
Conservatives dominate talk radio like liberals dominate the internet blogs. And the ratings of Faux News don't even come close to those of NBC News, ABC News and CBS News.
By the way, what do you think of Limbaugh pressuring his household workers to buy his drugs for him?
you are confused. right wing radio succeeds because they are apologists for the corporate agenda- they are the front lines of corporate propaganda.
Liberal radio didn't work because corporqate advertisers don't want an anti-corporate message getting out.
This has NOTHING to do with what PEOPLE prefer, and everything to do with threatenning the power structure- something the left does and the right does not.
I have listened to many hours of conservative talk radio- that's why I can call it hate-radio that essentially acts as corporate sponsored propaganda. I can call it that because I have listened to it, and I understand EXACTLY how it operates, and what its purpose is (to SCARE you!!! it works- look how scared you are!)
Are liberal TV stations struggling?
You guys usually contend that NBC, ABC and CBS are liberal (wrongly). If that's true, they are KILLING fox in ratings.
I don't need to know him personally. His own words confirm it. He wants pre-emptive Wars. Those Wars have consequences (IE Patriot Act, etc) that deduct from our Liberty, not protect our Liberty. I makes me sick that he espouses "Liberty," yet he wants nothing to do with what it takes to preserve Liberty. (IE ending the Fed, aboloshing income tax, ending foreign wars, reaffirming states rights, etc, etc)
IS IT TIME? Go to USRevolution2 (dot com) and get the flag of the Second American Revolution. It looks exactly like the Betsy Ross flag, but with a Roman numeral "II" in the center of the 13 stars. They are in all 50 states. Click the "Videos" tab on our website & see the flag spreading from Hawaii to North Carolina. They are $19.95 + postage & handling AND THEY ARE MADE IN AMERICA (Humble, Texas). They make a great holiday gift for family, friends and recovering Liberals.
Well, the commies passed their bill through the House at MIDNIGHT..
Pelosi's bill would threaten people with JAIL, if they dont carry $15,000 health insurance policies..
This is SICK- people, inform ALL your friends families, and youtube friends about the mandatory provision in this bill..We've gotta defeat this in the Senate if we wanna save the Nation.
Yes Levin vs Obama, I could see that. I am not a conservative, nor am I a liberal but Levin speech was arguably the best sppech of the year. This speech was great.
This speech was great. I would compare this to Obama's Inaguration speech, in terms of it being one of the best of the year. I think that it is #2. Would you agree?
Thanks for sharing your video! I was there also but I was so far back in the crowd that I couldn't even see the speakers, now that was a nice crowd!! Mark is awesome. Obama has awakened a sleeping giant and we need to keep the momentum going!! God Bless America!!
Lavin outlined the problems with our President and Congress in a concise speech. We will vote them out and elect constitutional loving politicians instead.
Did any one get John Voight on video there. He is such a firebrand I would love to hear his words at the Capitol.
Over at MediaMatters they are asserting that you were all bussed in there by insurance company astroturf groups...and given lunch. Please go comment on that dumb MediaMatters blog!
Mark really connected with everyone and it is a joy to see. If you haven't read his book, read it. That quote from Reagan is accurate. We have to protect this country from tyranny every step of the way, but we can do it! Vote intelligently and watch any slight of hand in between elections.
"Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery."

I just performed an experiment that I urge each and every one of you to try.
I visited many videos from Mark Levin and Michael Savage. I saw most of the posts were hate filled, and ill-informed.
That is the far right.
I then went to a bunch of videos of Noam Chomsky's and Howard Zinn's. The posts were, mostly, substantive and reflective. That is the far left.
On one side, we have thoughtful, educated people (the left). On the other side, we have screaming and fear-based bullying (the right).

He's never met a single one, but he knooooooows all. His facts are incredible. And I don't even know who this Chomsky guy is, but I can trust that he's a genius - Just like Zimm can trust masses of NS-13 members to be good citizens. I love peace
Meadras 2 years ago
Pardon me, I meant "MS-13." See, I don't have any facts because I'm an idiot, so I had a typo there...If only I was a Genius like Zimm "The stupidity of War" - See, War is useless. It's not like America, the freest country in the world, was FORMED by a war or anything like that...Peace brings us amazing, great, fun places like Rwanda - Good thing we never intervened there...The modern concept of peace is great and totally not generalized or ignorant
Meadras 2 years ago
I think you have things entirely backwards- it is endless WAR that ravished our planet today- and somehow, you portray peace as the threat.
Sadly, you represent just another American indoctrination- while your govt kills people abroad, you mindlessly and inaccurately describe it as protecting peace.
You kind of sicken me with your willful ignorance.
Have a great day.
tristramshandy3 2 years ago
Hahahaha, you act like you can just say "Hey, everybody, let;s have good time!" - And the whole world will just settle down and be at peace. That is physically impossible when you have countries like Afghanistan with people people trained from birth to KILL and DESTROY (PS: I call him Zimm 'Cause he reminds me of invader Zim) Truth be told, this modern war in Afghanistan is about nothing but drugs, but oh well. War itself is simply a reaction
Meadras 2 years ago
You obviously haven't read Zinn and know nothing about him.
I understand the need for defense. What I object to is needless war- which is what the USA constantly engages in.
My advice to you: get a library card and study history and philosophy.
Take care.
tristramshandy3 2 years ago
Which wars are you talking about? Can I get a hint? Or a clue? Pardon me if I study actual history and not some guy's rendition of it
Meadras 2 years ago
Do you really need me to tell you what needless wars we have engaged in?
OK- but it's sad that you don't know your own country's history.
Tops on the list has to be vietnam. We brutally murdered MILLIONS of human beings- and nobody has EVER come up with a valid reason why we were there or why we NEEDED to be there.
How about every other action since WW2- both Iraq wars, panama, Grenada, Korea, Afghanistan, etc.
Additionally, we love to overthrow democratically elected govts- chile, iran, etc.
tristramshandy3 2 years ago
Reason for Vietnam? I guess the deaths of 4 million people by the Khmer Rouge just isn't enough. (Mind you, we pulled out and caused about a million more deaths) Iran is your example of a democratic government? Wow, I can't believe you're the one telling me I don't know anything. The Korean War was just an extension of the Pacific War. See, Korea was occupied by the Japanese during WW2 and what we were trying to do was remove them. Then we came to a truce and ended up with jolly old North Korea!
Meadras 2 years ago
I'm sorry- what is your justification for Vietnam? What is your justification for bombing Cambodia?
Wait...why am I talking to you?
Your kind is old and dying. The younger generations don't see things the way you do- thank Buddha!
Have a great life.
Viva Shakespeare!
tristramshandy3 2 years ago
Who is Buddha? Buddha isn't a person, you freaking moron. Buddha is a state of enlightenment in which a person becomes essentially perfect. Buddha is NOT a person or a singular thing. There have been many Buddhas (IE: Siddhartha Gauttama and Boddhidharma). Wtf are you talking about? We bombed Cambodia because that's where the freaking Khmer Rouge were! The war in Vietnam wasn't just about the NVAs and the Vietcong!
Meadras 2 years ago
buddha is embodied in the reincarnation of his being through the body of the dalai llama.
the current dalai llama is the 11th or 14th incarnation I believe.
The original Buddha was a human being who achieved the enlightenment you spoke of in India around 700bc.
That is where Buddhism originated.
Have a great day.
Please stop excusing mass murder by your govt- it makes you look so provincial and indoctrinated.

you are wrong- we have not been killing people to protect ourselves- and no honest analysis of our history can confirm that.

this notion that we are the good guy who is protecting freedom requires an IMMENSE amount of willful ignorance.

Have you been asleep for 10 years???

Why should I read a book by Zinn? It's clearly going to be biased, Just like Beck's and Limbaugh's books are going to be conservatively biased. Stop reading peoples' opinions and start reading facts, man. And I like how you evaded my question just to insult me. Obviously, we went there to stop Saddam, but I was responding to you talking about us "Occupying Iraq" We stayed there to train their military. Here's a challenge: Name three of the enemy groups we're fighting in Afghanistan and Iraq.
Meadras 2 years ago
You should read a book by Zinn for the same reason I have read books by right wing rhetoricians; it's all about intellectual honesty and having well informed opinions.
As the great John Stuart Mill wrote in his essay "On Liberty":
The only way in which a human being can make some approach to knowing the whole of a subject is by hearing what can be said about it by persons of every variety of opinion.
If you think Zinn's book will be BS, then engage it CRITICALLY and track his mistakes.
tristramshandy3 2 years ago

Corporate agenda- interesting to describe because it's pretty straight forward, yet somehow, also kind of complicated.
The corporate agenda is one that pushes to maximize corporate profits regardless of the cost to society, workers, or the environment
When I call the news "corporate", I do so with a deep understanding of their ownership structure, and their operational modes
Everything that threatens corporate power is covered negatively- unions, environmentalists, etc. or not covered at all.
tristramshandy3 2 years ago

breakinthebend 2 years ago
Isn't the Union agenda to maximize profits through wage increases and benefits?
What you're failing to realize is that through the price incentive, the competition of companies provides an environment where it is more profitable to provide a better product, or a lower price to the patrons. Therefore the company that can provide the best product or the lowest price in a competitive market deserves to be rewarded through profit from its patrons that do business with it.
breakinthebend 2 years ago
What YOU fail to realize is that this system of competition that you seem to favor always results in oligarchy and corruption.
Here is what happens: there is competition and someone wins. That company grows and gets really big. Then, the company gets SO big, that it becomes cost effective to just buy congress, rather than deal with the market forces that are supposed to control everything.
Corporate oligarchy is the RESULT of competition.
That is self-evident. Look around.
tristramshandy3 2 years ago
Well if you grab a history book you will see that the U.S. has anti-trust laws and the Constitution has the Commerce Clause which give the U.S. Government the power to deconstruct businesses that interfere with the Capitalist tenant of competition, ever heard of Standard Oil or Microsoft?
And your answer to supposed oligarchy and corruption of Capitalism is through tyranny by the government which has the monopoly use of military and police force which NO BUSINESS HAS.
breakinthebend 2 years ago
laws that inhibit corporate greed and power aren't worth anything if the corporate whores we elect won't ENFORCE them.
My answer to oligarchy is what? When did I advocate a govt takeover?
I happen to be an educationalist- a belief that states in any given society, the primary factor determining amount of govt representation and overall health of a society is the education level attained by the majority of its citizens.
We, in the USA, are nitwits. THAT is why our system doesn't work.
tristramshandy3 2 years ago
How are they not being enforced? The breakdown of Microsoft only happened relatively short time ago.
Educationalist, that sounds nice but who is to do the teaching?
breakinthebend 2 years ago
Um, how are they not enforced? We now have 5 banks controlling almost our entire national wealth. we now have 6 media companies running 95% of our media.
How are they not enforced?
I think it would be far easier for you to tell me how they ARE enforced.
Who is to do the teaching?
How about people that are trained to do the teaching?
tristramshandy3 2 years ago
Educating the populous that decides how it spends its money is still using Capitalist means to an end.
If there is a monopoly in any sector then yea, I agree, it should definitely be broken up as it interferes with the Capitalist process.
The government throws billions of tax dollars at education and the education system is still a joke. The change in education has to be structural, not necessarily financial.
I've read your last few comments before you replied so anything before I missed.
breakinthebend 2 years ago
I'm not interested in companies that interfere with the capitalist process- MY main concern is with companies who interfere in our politics and deny us the representation we are entitled to.
Look at our govt right now- they are all corporate whores. The insurance industry has given out hundreds of millions of dollars over the last 10 years to them.
The financial sector has donated over 2 BILLION dollars to our govt over the last 10 years.
And we sit around and wonder why the govt doesn't work
tristramshandy3 2 years ago
I agree that the answer the fixing education isn't simply throwing money at a broken system.
Our system is broken on several levels- the most important being the disparity in funding between schools in good neighborhoods v schools in bad ones- this perpetuates our permanent class war.
Also, the curriculum acts as a tool of indoctrination rather than a facilitator of critical thought (in far too many cases).
Lastly, we need to INCREASE teacher salaries to increase competition for those jobs.
tristramshandy3 2 years ago
The education system doesn't work because you have a government monopoly and a strong teachers union. Once a teacher attains tenure, its almost impossible to remove them from the payroll. The problem with the education system is that you have too much job security. Also, teachers are paid on how difficult the job of teaching is. Whatever your opinion, teaching requires a low-moderate level of intellect, so more people can do it, therefore if the pay was too high there would be a disparity.
breakinthebend 2 years ago
"Whatever your opinion, teaching requires a low-moderate level of intellect"
WHAT??? You obviously have never tried to teach- so I must ask, what is that nonsense based on?
Aristotle was a teacher- he taught a guy named Alexander the Great. Kant, Hegel, Nietzsche- All professors.
Your answers have some merit- but they are such knee-jerk partisan responses that fail to get at the real problem, in my opinion
There DOES need to be more teacher accountability. I agree. But the problems go deeper
tristramshandy3 2 years ago
The average teacher, mostly the elementary and high-school levels, is not a shining example of intellect. Just because you rattled off 4 famous teachers doesn't mean anything. Besides that they were philosophers first, teachers second.
American genocide since it's founding? I suppose your referencing the Indian conflicts, however the Indians were a warring faction, just because the United States defeated the Indians doesn't mean its genocide.
How was Vietnam genocide?
How is Iraq genocide?
breakinthebend 2 years ago
I agree that most teachers are not very bright- but I do NOT agree that teaching isn't a difficult job and doesn't require a great intellect. That is nonsense.
So these teachers we have that aren't very bright- guess what? They aren't good teachers! We do have some excellent teachers that are very intelligent people.
You've never tried to teach. Why don't you go try and then come back and tell me how "easy" it is. It isn't. In fact, to do it well, teaching is probably the hardest job out there
tristramshandy3 2 years ago
White Europeans engaged in genocide against the native Americans. The history is vast- go do some reading.
I never said Vietnam and Iraq were genocides- although we have certainly done everything we can to help destroy Iraqi society- our latest adventure killing hundreds of thousands and forcing millions to flee the country as refugees (a story that NEVER gets air on our corporate media)- this just another step in a long line- including arming and funding Saddam in the 80's.
Have a nice day.
tristramshandy3 2 years ago
The U.S. was funding Saddam in the 1980's because Iraq was engaged in the Iraq-Iran war which started right after the Iran Hostage Crisis, I think it's you that needs to engage in some critical thinking and not repeat the same indoctrinated bullshit I heard from my socialist college professors.
Besides that you're using presentism to analyze the past, which is analytically incorrect. You scrutinize the interactions between groups by the societies they lived in, not by our standards today.
breakinthebend 2 years ago
If the US was funding Iraq because they were engaged in a war against Iran (which makes PERFECT sense- sarcasm!)- why was the US also illegally shipping weapons to Iran?
Your socialist professors told you about the reagan admin funding and arming saddam during the period when he committed his WORST atrocities?
Oh, you poor baby- how ever did you handle that harsh truth?
I don't think the values of mass murder and hypocrisy have changed at all- presentism works just fine here.
Thanks!
tristramshandy3 2 years ago
Yea, it does make perfect sense, do you really not understand why the U.S. would do that?
Reagan himself wasn't involved in the Iran-Contra Scandal and I don't care about his staff.
Saddam's WORST atrocity was the gassing of the Kurds, which took place post 1988.
All societies are warring factions, including the Indians.
With that said, all societies have scars from their past, however the U.S. has comparatively less human violations than other nations of the world.
breakinthebend 2 years ago
I think it's cute that you have a provincial, indoctrinated view of American history.
You can continue thinking we are the good guys that rarely, if ever, do anything wrong.
The ONLY problem with that is that you must ignore 110 years of history- starting with the Spanish American War, and ending with today's debacles.
We go to war every 12 years.
Name another developed country that does that.
Good luck.

Damage your intelligence by reading McLuhan's "The Gutenberg Galaxy"
Although I DOUBT you could understand it.

tristramshandy3 2 years ago
I would argue that the CENTRAL reason why our schools don't work is because they don't instill the ONE thing education should be focused on: critical thinking.
The curriculum in most schools is a provincial, jingoistic, pro-american fantasy that bears very little resemblance to the realities of living in an empire that kills millions of people- from the genocide of our founding to vietnam and iraq today.
If our education system was honest and instilled critical thought- it would work fine.
tristramshandy3 2 years ago
Look around? If you don't like doing business with supposedly corrupt companies, guess what, you don't have to and if other people want to do business with them, then that is their choice. Democracy in action.
Besides that the Private Sector is made up of thousands of competing factions, therefore it is impossible for one faction to "buy" Congress as the influence over Congress is split between competing groups IE environmentalists vs industrial businesses.
breakinthebend 2 years ago
I will refer you back to my critique of education (previous post). You can't have the consumer acting as a check on market forces if the consumer is an indoctrinated, brain-dead, ahistorical fool.
Influence in congress is NOT split between competing factions- influence in congress is determined by contributions. period. environmentalists have a little bit of cash. the oil giants have a lot more. Not exactly equal representation- and the legislation shows it.
All of this is self evident.
tristramshandy3 2 years ago
And who are you to determine whether the populous is indoctrinated? That's your opinion.
Last I check Greenpeace was one of the largest interest groups in the United States.
OPEC's monopoly of Middle East oil production and the Environmentalist hampering of oil production in the U.S. caused the high oil prices, not the oil companies. The oil companies had high revenue because they were paying high prices which were passed onto the consumer.
breakinthebend 2 years ago
I disagree with your analysis as to why oil pieces shot up years ago. I blame political instability- which was largely CREATED by the oil companies themselves.
Are you one of those guys who naively believes the private sector can NEVER do wrong, and that everything is the govt's fault?
I hope not.
tristramshandy3 2 years ago
But where there is a problem, the market will create a solution in order to attain profit. The Green Movement is a result of higher energy prices, not of Government coercion.
And BTW you said Capitalism results in corporate oligarchy, well the only way to take away power from private owners is through government coercion, so you didn't need to explicitly say you want government takeover, however govt takeover is the only way you can change the power of corporations.
breakinthebend 2 years ago
Not true- you can change the power structure of corporations by having a VERY well educated and INFORMED citizenry. It does NOT require a govt takeover- nor have I EVER advocated such a position.
Investments in education and a breakup of the corporate media monopolies will go a long way towards decreasing the ubiquitous corruption that currently plagues our broken system.
tristramshandy3 2 years ago
govt takeover is the only way you can change the power of corporations while averting capitalist means.

I would recommend you read it, but I doubt you have the intellectual integrity to engage with a book from the "other" side.

Where exactly did you learn to debate?
tristramshandy3 2 years ago
who is Zimm and when did he say aliens are taking over the country?
I think you have this Zimm person confused with the great American historian and hero Howard ZINN! His book "A People's History of the United States, 1492-present" might be the best history of the USA ever written.
The fact that you have never heard of Noam Chomsky is PROOF of how censored our society is- Chomsky is probably the premier American intellectual alive today- he has written over 100 books about politics and language
tristramshandy3 2 years ago
no? oh well. I tried.
tristramshandy3 2 years ago
Neither Noam Chomsky or Howard Zinn are very good philosophers. Chomsky is a linguist, Zinn is a historian, I like both of them but they don't know what they're talking about when it comes to ethics, political philosophy, or metaphysics. I doubt either of them understand the philosophical justifications for private property ( you really can't support private property as a leftist). But the extremes (right and left) are usually more civil and rational than the pseudo ideologues.
dbmcmillan 1 year ago
a leftist can support private property- in fact, you would have an IMPOSSIBLE time finding an American liberal that is calling for communism or the abolishment of private property.

Oh no! (sarcasm!)

AtlasShruggery 2 years ago
yes.
if noone took him seriously, and he was so crazy, and he was such a drug addict, which hes not, noone would listen to him. but since they do, your argument against him in no way, shape or form works, because it simply doesnt make any sense. thats why conservative talk radio makes up 90% of all radio shows in the US, because nobody likes to listen liberal talk radio, same as why Fox crushes MSNBC and CNN in ratings.
"i did not enter the military because there was no conflict at the time"
taylort123 2 years ago

Thanks for sharing your video! I was there also but I was so far back in the crowd that I couldn't even see the speakers, now that was a nice crowd!! Mark is awesome. Obama has awakened a sleeping giant and we need to keep the momentum going!! God Bless America!!

Ironic that most supporters of Obamacare were trembling in fear over the Patriot Act, but don't mind their health care in the hands of government.

Lavin outlined the problems with our President and Congress in a concise speech. We will vote them out and elect constitutional loving politicians instead.
Did any one get John Voight on video there. He is such a firebrand I would love to hear his words at the Capitol.

God bless America!
Mark really connected with everyone and it is a joy to see. If you haven't read his book, read it. That quote from Reagan is accurate. We have to protect this country from tyranny every step of the way, but we can do it! Vote intelligently and watch any slight of hand in between elections.
God bless America, but let's also do OUR part!

Levin ROCKS! Liberty & Tyrrany (his million+ best seller) is a revelation, pick it up (or at least get it from the library)
