  • He sounds like one of the bad guys from the movie 'Taken'

  • This video dident help I just pissed me off

  • Go Pats!

  • Thanks! helped alot, now I can watch the superbowl sunday with alot more understanding:)

  • I didn't know Jacques Cousteau studied American Football

  • Tim tee bow

  • MORE than 50% of american Handegg/nfl players r 0BESE L0L such a rejected sport

  • @xxdj0kxx Where the hell did you make up that statistic from? The line men are the only players that are ever obese, and even then they're usually not.

  • @zzyzx0788

a ''sport'' that has more of 50% of the players being obese its a joke FAKE N GAYYY n american handegg is fake n gayyy

  • @xxdj0kxx ....well it appears that you have ignored everything I just said

  • American Hand Egg #thatisall

  • @sadeaisha European kickball no score 90 min waste of time. #europesucks

  • @AZSTATEisGAY American Hand Egg #thatisall said it before saying it again!

  • Better that was the aussies play fucking freaks they are..

  • i know everything about american HANDEGG n this sport is fake n gayyyy

the men wear women tight spandex pants n body armour cause they dont want to get hurt and they put on make up. american handegg=american/NFL

    F00TBALL = FlFA

  • @xxdj0kxx sup fag. football as you call it or footfaries as we call it in america is one of the most boring pussy sports the world has to offer. but seeing how you are a pussy i see why u love it i love how many times people get injured in footfaries and then get right back up and start sprinting again like it never happened.

  • @AZSTATEisGAY onIy N00BS say that about FootbaIIers.

but when ur favourite sport is a REJECTED SP0RT Iike american handegg i understand L0L

    FootbaII = the BlG B0SS

    american handegg/nfl = A REJECTED SPORT L0L

  • It's so hard to understand what you're saying...

  • @MySupermario69 Hello supermario, yeah I know that was the first video I made and was not perfect. But you can turn on the closed captioned (cc) and this way you can read what I say ;)

  • seems way more complicated than it needs to be

  • for all you guys, i would suggest watching college football, its a hundred times more fun. more intense rivalries, great pageantry and overall alot more exciting than the NFL....i would compare college football (especially the SEC conference and BIG 12 conference, which are the two best) to the premeir football (soccer) in england in terms of atmosphere and intensity.

  • @SLMusic7 Yes. If the defense intercepts the ball, they will always try to run it back for a touchdown. If they come short, at least the offense will be that much closer to the goal line.

  • you should explain first downs

  • FUCK AMERICAN FOOTBALL... they don't have brain!!! FUCK

  • @jonathansianguk yes footballs much better full of overpaid cunts who only care bout there pay diving ruining the sport american football all the way

  • @jonathansianguk you're apparently locked in a mental ward some where in bloody England

  • @jonathansianguk "they don't have brain!!!" lol.

  • @jonathansianguk and you don't have any testicles.

  • how about freekicks? why do they exist? a touchdown is worth more points, isn't it?

  • @opnsource yes fieldgoal exist. for more information you can take a look at video 2

  • @opnsource A touchdown is worth more points (6) however a Field Goal (free kick) is almost a guaranteed 3 points. If a team is unable to score a touchdown on the first 3 downs, they usually go for a kick if they are close enough, rather than risking no points if they fail the touchdown. Its much easier to kick a field goal than score a touchdown, which is why its only worth 3 points. Coaches usually try to put as many points on the board as possible so we see field goals kicked very often.

  • @SLMusic7 Yes. It is amazing every time it happens!

  • @SLMusic7 Yes, you can :)

  • lol the guy's voice sounds funny xD

  • Well, I don't want to name names, but I have a family member who was a pro football player* I watched him play from childhood on in to adulthood, but to be quite honest I have never really truly understood the game. I know certain plays: pass interception, fumbles (I like to call dogpile =) , of course touchdowns, and there are a few more. I now have a 1yr old son and want to learn more about my fav sport to watch. Thank you for this great interpretation!

  • 2:56 fucking goalie in the way! Wow, they really let that guy stand right in the middle of that mess??

  • @Erilis666 haha that's not the goalie it's the referee, there isn't a goalie in amer football. sometimes the ref will get too close to the play and will get bowled over, it's pretty funny.

  • The amount of people that even understand Amer Football or bash it, if they looked at a NFL playbook, it would look like a foreign language. The timing and precision that goes into blocks route running etc is not for everyone and is one of the hardest things to do.

  • To all the wankers out there with their I-can't-figure-it-out whinging: Do you ever watch rugby league? I would figure not, if Yank-rules really throws you for a loop; rugby league and NFL are similar enough that to know one is to be able to figure out the other.(Sorta like Italian and Spanish.) This is because they both started at the very end of the 19th C. as attempts to improve upon rugby union. Yanks went for forward passes and padding, RL didn't, and they drifted apart.

  • @therealjoebloggs

Actually, the forward pass wasn't legal until 1905, and was introduced primarily to open the game up and lower the shockingly high death rate. Also, plastic pads and helmets were not invented until 1939,and weren't even mandatory in the NFL until 1943. SO they didn't drift apart as soon as you thought.

Besides, pads and forward passes are relatively small changes from Rugby. The line of scrimmage as well as the down and distance rules are much more distinctive.

  • im a girl and i love watching football, i just have no idea on wtc is goin on lmfaoxD ima just play madden til i get this ish:)

  • American football is one of the most complex games ive ever seen! I started playing at the age of 10 and I already knew all the rules from watching it all my life but if I hadnt, it would give me a headache! this guy simplified it BIG time. He didnt go into detail on penalties, running plays vs pass plays, punting, kick offs ect. I never realised how complex football was because ive been exposed to it all my life. And football is called football because its based on Rugby football.

  • @TheSnuffy73 Now try explaining baseball to someone who doesn't know the rules!

  • YEAAAA BOISE STATE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

  • best way to learnt the rules it to play a madden game on a easy difficulty you gradually pick it up. at first tho you have no idea WTH is going on :P

  • why is it called a touch down when they never touch the ball on the floor?

  • UMM I STILL DON'T UNDERSTAND IT

  • @trisgilmour UMM thats because you're retarded

  • @peteymandem SHUT UP

  • @trisgilmour turn off your caps lock. what a witty comeback.

  • @peteymandem So you think you can call me retarded just because I have never lived in the states and have never watched the game and I'm not looking to fight over this so lests be cool about this and drop it

  • @trisgilmour no i called you retarded because you said 'UMM I STILL DON'T UNDERSTAND IT' like a retard. i've never lived in the states and i understand it easily. maybe if you stop licking windows and watch the video you might understand, though i doubt you can do that.

  • good movie but your voice is very annioing

(I gave you a thumb up)

  • Thank you for this vid, it really helped me!

  • Nasty spin move at 4:57

  • i love this goddamn game but i fukin hate soccer

  • As an American living in Washington D.C., who has gone to every Redskins game since 1999, all I can say is that if I'm sitting here in New Delhi right now waiting for the cricket match (and I don't know the rules), you should consider watching some American Football.

HAIL TO THE REDSKINS! HAIL VICTORY! BRAVES ON THE WARPATH! FIGHT FOR OLD DC!

  • @DeFrankenstien To bad I wasn't a girls, giants, birds fan or else I'd hate the skins but I'm not. I'm sure you loved watching the Pack kick the crap out of NY 45-17 and make philly go 1 and done.

  • @jrtiura yeah it could be true but I think that it is cooler to believe that football comes from a foot long ball. Well soon we'll see subway sponsorizing the NFL for its foot long subs...

That name is has historical implications but it really does stink.

I wonder what name should we give that sport... How about complexBall, superBall, USball or megaBall :D

  • @fabqb you may think it's cooler but you're wrong.

  • Very helpful, thank you.

  • These videos would be so helpful if the announcer would stop WHISPERING! How can anybody learn anything if you are going to speak in a sultry low voice as if you are whispering in a woman's ear?? That is SO SILLY!! The diagrams and information are excellent but the announcer needs to speak up...how can people learn from you if they can't even hear you!!! SO STUPID!!

  • Where are the FUCKING rules?????

  • irish? lol

    "futbellllllllllll"

    lol

  • In the Old West they called it "Head Ball" because it was played with the severed heads of those who lost a shoot out. History yo.

  • running back sure have to be the fastest i mean outrunning and dodging linebackers is pretty hard but they get help from lines. being line is very important i suppose.

  • @spritedblue runningbacks are usually either the toughest, or the most elusive, its the wide receivers that have to be the fastest.

  • @eddieisfiction hahah i guess so.

  • this is very good for non-americans to learn.. this sport is amazing and always misunderstood.

  • "Are you ready? here we go!".......Epic accent.

  • great job with the video!

  • I am going to start training this sport. After watching this, I am actually looking forward to it! ^^

  • Thanks for posting this video, really helped me understand! Thanks fabqb!

  • ive always been a rugby player and im joining a football team

i played flanker and wing.. and im not really sure what the football equivelant of a flanker would be....

  • @captainobvious49 how tall and how much do you weigh... thats usually the answer.

  • (I'm American) I think people knew to the game might be better able to appreciate it if they think of it as a game of chess . Every player has a preset function and particular role depending on the called play. Most of the players who allow a play to develop through blocking or deception are usually not as obvious as the ball carriers and pass receivers ---- but that is one of the most beautiful parts of the game. Merci beaucoup pour cette vidéo et bonne chance pour touts les "newbees".

  • France 2 ?????? ils diffusent aquel heurrs???

  • Are you French?

Also, what's the song :), the second one I thin... oh, Vallejo?

    nvm ^^

    THX FOR THE BASICS MAN!

    keep it up

  • This sport is amazing, full of suspense and everything. I enjoy watching American Football. But i don't understand why they call it "Football"! I mean it's NOT played with (Feet) and it's not much of a (Ball) --more like an egg shaped.

  • @ozzymmj it is simply because of its size... the ball measures one foot (30 cm) so if it was one meter long the sport would be called meterball.

  • @fabqb although thats a convenient explanation, its not the real reason. football traces its roots back to rugby and soccer, both also known as different codes of football. also, the ball is still kicked sometimes in the american game and is used as a method for scoring field goals and pats

  • Comment removed

  • @fabqb@fabqb Excellent introduction to American football. Regarding the origins of the word "football," it has been suggested that the word applies to a number of sports where points can be scored (in varying degrees) by the kicking of the ball. In most English speaking countries, the word football usually denotes the most popular version played in country. The size and shape of an American/Canadian football evolved in large part due to rule changes made to promote the forward pass.

  • @fabqb Tks! i had never understood the reason!!!

  • @fabqb is that true ?

  • @fabqb 30cm isnt one meter

  • @ssoboguh yes he know that, 30cm = 1 foot, theres standard and metric systems if you don't know, cm-inch, foot-meter, they are similar but slightly different, so 30cm=12 inches which = 1 foot

  • @ozzymmj I've heard it's because the ball is one foot theory but I believe the correct reason it was called fooball is because it's game you play with a ball on your feet. I know that is a little dumb but I believe that is the reason.

  • @ozzymmj

it's called football because it's played on foot with a ball.

  • @ozzymmj

why is AF called football? Part one

That's a good one. First, why is any sport called football. Originally Football meant a game played on foot, not with a foot(kicking), ie Footsolider is on foot, does not kick his enemy. But by the 1700’s football came to mean a kicking game. By the 1800’s most schools played football but had varied rules or “codes”. The Association met to unify the rules in England, “Soccer” from the word Association. Continue...

  • Why is AF called football? Part two

Yale played a code called Ballown Football. It was like Gaelic Football but had obstruction or blocking. When Yale traveled to Canada to play McGill in Football they played Rugby Code. Yale liked Rugby code and returned it to the States where the two sports were combined.

  • Why is AF called football? Part three

AF is like Rugby with Blocking but only “set plays” so the college kids could outwit each other with plays. The new code was first called “Colligate Football” but was changed to "American Football".

1905 the foward pass was added so now you have a game that you kick the ball(like old football), Run with the ball (like Rugby Football) and throw the ball called "Football".

  • @ozzymmj that, and way back when communications were bad, rugby was being played in the eearly americas which they tweaked and changed eventually creating a foward pass, which needed a aerodynamic ball, so they invented a new sport from rugby, which they called rugby football, and they couldn't call it rugby so they just called it football. And combined the social something something (european football) into SOCcer.

  • @ozzymmj The ball is a foot long in length thats why.

  • @ozzymmj football referred to any sport played on foot and not horseback, in traditional football in england, you could use your hands, and thats where rugby comes from. There's a multitude of games under the title "Football" What you call football is association football, and the only one where use of the hands is pretty much forbidden

  • @ozzymmj Because they run with the ball on foot! Try watching an NFL football game or a college football game and you'll see what I mean!

  • GRIDIRON lol.

  • Where's your accent from. I think it's from africa, not judging you cause by girls from Nigeria, and she is hotttttt.

  • @dennishamiltonyoh shut up nobody gives a fuck what u think

  • @potteddipinside what an utterly STUPID comment to leave

  • Comment removed

  • @potteddipinside Why the fuck you got to think too much yah faaacking mug!!! Keep your fucking opinion to yourself cunt.

  • Sweet. I live in the Uk and this sport isnt played here (coz its one of many crap countries), im so gutted ive missed out on all this. SO moving to usa when im older :P

  • this is so much more complicated than rugby...

  • @KroliggBloodhoof my rugby team has a lot of football players for my highschool too. its like rugby but you can hit people ten times harder :D

  • Comment removed

  • I don't understand one thing. How much you can pass the ball? Only once to receivers or they can pass to another players if necessary?

  • It depends. Once the QB has thrown the ball, any player can make a lateral (a sideways or backwards pass to any other player). They can advance the ball by running forward with it, but not throwing it forward. It's a bit of a desperation move - but if it's 4th down and there's no time on the clock and you've got to get a score to win, it might be your only option. Hope that helps. :)

  • When a Receiver catches a ball, they can only (pass) What they call Lateral the ball only to players behind the, Only the Quarterback can throw the ball in foward as long as he does not cross the Line of Scrimage which is the spot where the ball was originally snapped or place by the Ref.

  • lucas, triumph is not exactly correct. he s close...but no cigar. LETS GET THIS STRAIGHT... the q.b. is alm alw gonna be the 1 who throws the ball...true enough...but there are several "gadget" plays that are designed to have the recievers, running backs...and yes even certain linemen...believe it or not...who can throw a foward pass. here is the exact rule...,.to be sure.

  • lucas...if u really wanna learn football....hit me back and i ll help u.

  • You can pass, but only to the players back of you, i know sucks. but more challenging! yay hahaha

  • This video was helpful. I'm from the UK and never understood it before this, so hopefully I'll be able to enjoy the Superbowl tonight.

  • YEAAAAAAH! DA BEARS @ 1:32 <3

  • Im from austrlaia and im addicted to this sport

  • Just wanted to say that there's WAY MORE than 0.0003% Americans who are very open minded to other non US sports and dislike the stereotypical chunky tourists -type who give USA a bad name. I'm a girl, just graduated from college, not fat and I LOVE football(and soccer). I find it amazing that people DON'T see the skill in this sport.

Like the author said, its not gonna get resolved so let the ignorant people say whatever makes them feel better while a majority of us know what good sports are.

  • lmao well said!

  • Man i dont get some brits, im english and i fuckin love this shit. Football over here is played with lots of skill no doubt but American Football has an immense amount of skill, the plays to remember the physical skill required aswell. Just like to throw some support out there from UK for American football! Keep Rocking !

  • hell yea man

  • Guys let's calm down the heated commentaries. It is obvious that neither will accept the opinion of the other so if it continues, I will remove the thread. Let's be constructive here ok? Thanks..

    The author of the video...

  • G9baracuta, it's obvious you've never played nor watched American football. The amount of skill necessary is immense, and each position varies greatly in its responsibility and function. The game is diverse and involves many intricate, personnel battles and match-ups.

Open your eyes, you snaggle-toothed, tea-drinking Brit (or some type of run-off of that dredgery)

  • Where's the skill? I'd LOVE to see you try to push a 300 lb man back 3 yards without grabbing him at all. Or find 2 foot wide holes in a mass of men in a split second, while running away from men who can run 5 second 40's and are 250 lbs. Or catching a small ball while in a dead sprint. Or throwing a ball so it will reach someone exactly when they arrive when there is a 2 foot margin or error and the receiver is sprinting. And that's just the offense.

Football takes the same skill as soccer.

  • For those outside the USA, the "white team" is the Indianapolis Colts and the "dark team" is the Chicago Bears. This was Super Bowl 41. The Colts, led by Peyton Manning won the game.

  • Just to set the record straight: American Football "gridiron" was originally based on rugby football, hence the name. Also, Soccer (or football everywhere outside the USA) is a term coined the UK. It was short for "Association Football." Hopefully, this clears things up. Also, the reason they wear pads is because linebackers weigh 300lbs, can push a truck out of the way, and run like Olympic sprinters.

  • someone mind telling me where the skill is is American football? i personally think its the shittest and most talentless sport on the planet.. saying that i've never watched it for more than 5 minutes. And just for the record Soccer is a name Americans made up about 500 years after football was invented and then you call a game, that doesn't involve alot of kicking American football, are you lot fuckin retarded. Twats

  • You are obviously a fucking idiot so here is a blonde chick with big boobs who is smarter than you. Enjoy.

    watch?v=138CaUjCorU

  • I'm the idiot? nice one. Whats that video? Am i supposed to watch it, is it some American bird talking about how little she knows about anything

  • I am from germany and I did not understand a single thing. :-(

All I see are some guys running and hitting at each othrer and total chaos. ;-)

What is the goal of the game? You must bring the "ball" to the other end of the field? Is this a touchdown? What about all those lines and numbers???

    Clueless...

  • Comment removed

  • I can explain the rules to you in german, if you want to.

  • That accent is so fake.

  • nice rugby ;)

  • This guy is an AMerican.

  • Very cool to hear the rules coming from a Europeans perspective. Good job!

  • nice

  • Really cool video. Educate everyone about the great game of american football (gridiron)

  • what the hell is gridiron?, i keep seeing it

  • its what non americans call football

  • no i think its what they call the football field. please correct me if im wrong.

  • Soccer...in other countries when u say football they think soccer...for instance Spain...and also in the West Indies...well pretty much everywhere else but here in America...lol

  • cos we invented football a million years ago, so its called football. Call it Soccer all you want but no one listens, if you said soccer to me i think i'd just ignore you. its like calling trousers pants and Autumn fall. whats the deal with the retardation. yanks can't even be fucked to put the u in flavour or favour anymore..

  • ignorant asshole.

  • when it comes to american football... agreed!

  • then dont talk shit about it. im not trying to be a prick like you but you really shouldnt be talking shit to people in another country about a sport that is loved nationwide. besides you talk about a United States sport as if we are all unathletic. Seems to me that the United States has dominated every sport except soccer(or football however you want to say it). you can have that sport. i'll take the pride of owning the olympics. have a nice day

  • I said i failed to see the talent in it not that it was unathletic, wheres the talent in it? Its only popular in America! Only an American would say 'i'll take pride in owning the olympics'... And you wonder why your the most hated nation on earth.... wonder no more your arrogance to the rest of the world would be why... Of course there are nice normal, not fat intelligent Americans but only about 0.0003%... And i bet none of them watch American Football.

  • why would i care about what other countries have to say about the U.S.? why should i give a flying fuck what a bunch of brits with huge egos have to say? the only thing i care about is finishing my degree in Biochemistry and living my life happy. call me arrogant and i could care less because only a hater can talk shit about american competition in sports. if your only argument is that we are one of the most obese nations then those fat asses have the highest medal count to date and climbing.

  • Never said its the fattest nation(and by the way your not one of, America is also a gold medalist there)... never said it was a non athletic sport, do you just hear what you want to hear or what? This is the most pointless discussion i've ever had... Its like talking to a brick wall...

  • @g9baracuta You might want to look this up. The reason why favour and such words have 'U' in them is because of French influence through conquest of the British Isles . Words like favor, flavor, etc are older forms that continued to exist along side the new French influenced words. So you are speaking and spelling something closer to French when you use the added "u" spellings. So which is more correct ? Which is more "English "?

  • because they call SOCCER football

  • Good video.
