how come they don't mention the death of kristen pfaff i mean can understand why they didn't but that was another big death from that so called grunge scene interesting good documentary anyway
@7ChaosBlack I've read on the subject from every source available, from all sides, and I've yet to find conclusive evidence saying they were going to split. They both thought it might happen, however they still cared about each other deeply, and they both understood what a divorce does to a child. Like I said, Courtney is/was a bitch, but she's not a monster.
@7ChaosBlack On the contrary, he put the gun in his mouth, so all the damage was internal. If shot from further away, his face would have looked worse.
Also the "i saw a pic once of this guy" is a weak argument.
All the evidence you're quoting is circumstantial. There's no proof that when he died anyone else was there. He wrote a suicide note (he definitely wrote ALL of it). He was a drug addict who suffered with depression his entire life. Occom's razor: Simplest answer is usually the truth.
@7ChaosBlack He had audio of nothing. It sure does sound like a lot when you hear all of the worst things put together in a row, but seperately, they don't say anything.
also, El Duce is a creep. It doesn't surprise me at all that he'd lie about anything for attention.
It's very easy to say that there's a lot of shady stuff going on around his death, but it can all be attributed to incomplete police work, and the celebrity gossip machine.
@7ChaosBlack I wouldn't piss on Tom Grant if he was on fire. He's a liar, plain and simple.
Kurt's blood heroin level was 1.52 mg per liter. Tolerance levels vary wildly, but it's likely that if he had not shot himself, he would have overdosed. However, the time between when he injected the heroin and shot himself was less than a minute, and his tolerance gave enough time for him to pull the trigger
Fact is, there's never been ANY evidence that anyone else had anything to do with his death.
Did you guys know that he sat next to Duff Makeagan on the plane after the Rome overdose. Theres a video here where Duff talks about their conversation.
so little stuff about alice in chains , soundgarden , pearl jam , heck , where's stone temple pilots ?? they are fromcalifornia but still , great grunge band
But be that as that may, I'm so sad that Kurt's life went down the path it did. I wish he was still alive... I can only imagine all the pain he went through... And I don't think Courtney killed him and her music is alright but when I heard about how she came into the spot light just now... I wonder if she really misses him or just was in it for the fame. Such a mystery... RIP Kurt Cobain...You are greatly missed...
As much as I love Nirvana, Alice in chains gets my vote for best grunge band. I just get so pumped and energized when I hear them but Nirvana, Soundgarden, Mudhoney, Mother Love Bone, Green River, L7, and all the other grunge bands hold a special place in my heart. It sucks how a great musical revolution came crashing down after the media blew it out of proportion.
@jjjw27 Something gives me the feeling you were born after 1996 so your opinion really doesnt matter and looks retarded. I think the thing to be gotten from this is that there is no such thing as "grunge", its just rock music......
I hate how because the news said Kurt killed himself tht its true. He had 3 times the lethal dose of herion in him man. he couldnt have picked up a shotgun tht was bigger than his arm pull the trigger fall down neatly with it in his hands...i mean really people think. plus a shotgun shell(slug or 12-20) wouldnt have put hole in his head the size of a dime. he was murdered also it wasnt a suicide note it was a note to his fans saying he was goin to quit music ,the end wasnt even his hand writing
@TheRealSonicYouth herion takes 10-15 sec to hit the brain lots time to shot a loaded 20gage with brid shot not slug he killed him self he was manic/biplor try kill him self 2 times b4 that and fails he has lots of suicde in his family dude was not murderd was a drug addict with mental health issus not saying Love didint have nothing to do with it she drove him to kill him self .....
@hotahota27 i agree on the little brother comment, they shouldve focused more on all the bands that made up the sub pop 200 comp, wouldve been a much more difinitive doc in my opinion, and i gotta agree on the cornell and vedder comment, i like soundgarden a lot but pearl jam can fuck themselves when it comes to the music they play(in regards to theyre grunge relation), i like how eddie handles his business when it comes to not selling out(outside the target thing, that album sucked anyways)
but courtney had something to do with kurts death, its simple, live through this...probably named the week of his death, released 2 DAYS AFTER, "go on take everything" maybe like how things would be taken away via kurt quitting nirvana and/or music as a profession hating his life that had treated courtney fairly well for the last 3 years and how her own album could never give her the rewards that kurts albums had, does it make any sense frances probably cant stand her mom and lives with kurts
@Kurtney4594 I think so too now that you mention that. I've been trying not to come to that conclusion because I really liked Live thru this and Celebrity skin but it really is suspicious that her album came out 2 days after his death. Part of me thinks maybe it was her way of explaining how she felt about Kurt but another part of me thinks she did that just for the fame with "Hah, Kurt's out of the way, now it's time for Love to shine!".
@hotahota27 more talented, ya maybe cause they were metal players mostly, maybe explains why they have actual "guitar solos" that go on for at least a minute like metal and are figured more talented(cant judge talent on lyrics, simply close-minded and dumb), ever heard the MEET THE BEATLES album, tell me theyre not talented though its parts are very simplistic
I really don't think lil wayne is a nirvana fan, if he was he wudn't give a rat's ass about being labled as the best rapper alive or watever, he shud loathe everything he has and go underground and rap about real shit instead of bullshit he does now, fucking sellout
@1944ACE1944 As much as I hate that bastard and rap in general (excluding Eminem), I have to disagree with you. I don't see why you can't be a famous musician and like a genre that prided itself on being anti commerical. Green Day was influenced by Nirvana, and Billie Joe even met Kurt back stage before they got signed. Look at them now, I an bet you they still like Nirvana and the Sex Pistols.
Mudhoney has always been a great band. Just saw them last year @ the southgate house in NKY. Great show!! I also must say I am a huge Nirvana fan but would ppl please stop calling him a great guitarist he sucked at guitar.
I hate how people say your too young to understand what he meant...well maybe im just different compared to other 13 year olds....i take music seriously...and Kurt Coabins music helps me through EVERYTHING thats bad!
It wasn't just Seattle music that was reflective of the early 1990's. Don't forget everything that was happening at the time; The first Gulf War, The LA Riots, Boys In The Hood was released, There was a lot of unrest with America's youth.....the 13th generation was coming of age. Yes, GenX was another derogatory term used by a boomer to describe an entire generation; lets not forget being called Slackers and 'The Lost Generation'.
Actually, you're wrong! Don't claim to know things that you obviously do not. Kurt definitely sang about suicide and dying. He originally wanted to name Nirvana's second album "I hate myself and I want to die." Band members and management had to beg him to pick another name so he picked "Nevermind."
@1990MattC When you speak about hard drugs you can't ignore Heroine. now replace hard drugs with grunge and heroine with nirvana,it is that simple and also so sad...
@MrWiiPS360 its horrible, there are disgusting bands that try and be grunge, but they make it all sheeny and poppy, people like nickleback and creed, stained etc. its the worst music ever to be released and diserves to be only ever used as cheesy wrestling music
@1990MattC Noooo id say its pretty even, nirvana had such a huge impact then kurt did what he did and thats what they use to dramatize the whole thing, thats why they keep reminding you about it every second scene
@1990MattC no grunge existed without them, nirvana made grunge accessible outside of the pacific northwest, u think u would know who the fuck L7, Babes In Toyland, or Hole r without nirvana, mudhoney, or other punk/hard rock influenced bands FROM THE NORTHWEST, doubt it, i hate that kurt outshadows everythin else except to those who know better but itd be like saying why the fuck do u mention the beatles, arthur lee and love, the doors, jefferson airplane were in the 60's too
@Kurtney4594 besides no shit everyone knows nirvana more, they sold in utero at kmarts and walmarts to be more accessible to people who dont live in the northwest, and dont even pull that im not mainstream bullshit and say pearl jam are more talented and/or better, TEN has nothing grunge(which is based on the sound, nothing more, its where the term is based from, a dirty, grimey, grindy sound, like grunge sounds like when its grunge) pearl jam are a hard rock band, a good one infact, not grunge
@1990MattC Well, seeing as the whole music scene itself, in the eyes of the world wide tabloid media, revolved around a couple of hyped junkies who had a kid, it`s sort of fitting. A grunge docu wouldn`t be complete without a chapter on the "twisted love-hate-love-life of the Cobains and their kid" just like it wouldn`t be complete without the fact that the generation who embraced it (all the music - not the hype) felt drawn to the lyrics not reprinted in the press.
@1990MattC hey you might wanna show a little respect, if it wasnt for nirvana, none of those other bands would even be famous. Dont act like your so "grunge" and dont care about fame. I wish kurt would come back to life just so he could slap you in the face, poser.
Rest assured people modern art, music, and culture will NOT stay in the same orbit forever. These things cycle, i know it looks bad, but all you have to do is look back historically and see the evidence. Things repeat because people for all our differences are similiar, so things will change. Rest Assured
Music goes in cycles. With that said hopefully some dirty undergound rock will rise up again to reclaim its place. Radio is so cookie cutter now unlike the 90's.
I just wanna say that people who think Courtney had nothing to do with Kurt's death should really look into the her private investigator's findings. She fired him after he started pinpointing her as a factor in Kurts disappearance.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Kurt = Another bipolar tragedy. Look Hole made one good album so I am not going to pretend that bitch C.love was a saint but he was sick. Sick mentally which going through his interviews of himself and his parents On top of that a drug addict and abuser. I have seen it many times. Suicide usually follows. So before you guys bite my head off fuck Courtney Love.
fuck it sucks that curt died he was soo cool, now that i think of it he was a zombie with beuitifull eyes i think courtny fucked him over she isolated him from his friends and he wasnt ready for everything happening to him
Its my opinion n ima get all technical n stuff... i think glam metal was a low point in the eighties. All glam metal was is image, selling out, MTV, and heavy commercialism. U may think the songs r catchy n stuff but its not gonna change or influence anything. Glam metal didn't really hav any depth or meaning, plus a lot of it's just posers; each one with worse shred solos n more make up. Personally I respect Metallica, Guns N' Roses, gangsta rap, and most of all grunge 4 killing glam metal.
@yoshu2 I'm a huge hip hop fan and I couldn't agree more. In terms of the quality of music in the respective genres, rap in the '00s had A LOT in common with rock in the '80s. But rap is currently in a very similar stage that rock was in 1990. It's "backpack" era is probably only about a year or two away.
(by the way, "backpack" is pretty much the hip hop equivalent of "grunge")
I hear ya but there was a lot of good glam-metal too. But towards the end it had just become a caricature of itself. It needed a good kick in the ass. That's how grunge came to be. I've lived all of my 48 years here in Seattle and it indeed was a fun time watching the "scene" explode. I saw many of the bands that became huge at small little joints here before they became huge. Alice was always my fave. I love my grunge but I also love a lot of the best of the glammier metal too.
I hate that guy who said that he would not be suprised if Kurt Cobian died becuase "he sang about dying, suicide was his muse"....what a fucking liar! Kurt never mention suicied in any of his songs! For fuck's sake this we are talking about gurnge not fucking emo
@TheButcher1982 the first half yes. Similar to the late 60's/early 70's. The late 90's were even worse than the late 80's and late 70's IMO (though, of course, not as bad as the entirety of the 00's :/)
just believe it, kurt actually did kill himself. BUT, i also believe that love did contribute a lot as a major factor.
sorry to say, but he was pretty messed up on his own already b4 she came along. then she pushed everyone outta kurt's life, and asked kurt to write songs for her. if u been with a woman that all ur frens hate, u'd get a slight idea wat it mite have been 4 him.
mayb she also influenced kurt to further drug abuse. she's not the entire reason but is a major one. just my 2 cents!
Kurt Cobain killed himself when he was 27..... my mom killed herself when she was 27...... janis joplin, jim morrison and jimi hendrix were all 27 when they died...... what does this mean??
what I don't like is that glamorous image of sub pop being a mothership for grunge bands and helping them, supporting them and shit like that I think that Sup pop was in fact about to die kind of a label in 1990/1991 and the factor that saved them was in fact money from nirvana's soundgarden's, mudhoney's, major label's sold albums. Sup pop was like old man smoking cigarette standing next to his grave at the time. That label shoudl be honoured but not in the way this documentary shows it.
I'm surprised (so far) there has been no mention of Stone Temple Pilots. I don't consider them grunge, but I don't consider a lot of these bands grunge...but I figured they would be lumped with Pearl Jam, AIC, Nirvana, Soundgarden, etc.
@GoBucks2828: If Pearl Jam were hated by some alternative people when they came out, it's nothing compared to what Stone Temple went through. Critics thought they were going to turn alternative into a corporate world, and called Core a bad AIC and Pearl Jam rip-off. I'd guess the reason they didn't make it in is because they weren't really important to alternative (though they are a good band) and they were from San Diego not Seattle.
@ClassicGamer88 The real glory days of music would have probably been 1966-1975, but the hard rock/grunge era is also up there. It'll be nice when all this pop shit finally implodes and real music comes back. Pop music is being kept in life support by MTV, Clear Channel, American idol, etc. despite its noticeable decline in sales and fans. Britney Spears is the perfect example of this.

@1990MattC When you speak about hard drugs you can't ignore Heroine. now replace hard drugs with grunge and heroine with nirvana,it is that simple and also so sad...
1krasio1 1 year ago
@1krasio1 Okay... More like a grunge documentary became a Nirvana documentary.
1990MattC 1 year ago
@1990MattC
Well they were one of the bigger grunge bands, so what do you expect.
AngryEwok666 1 year ago 2
@1990MattC well the fact of the matter is without nirvana most of the people wouldn't know what grunge was. and nirvana was the best grunge band.
ff9alexander 1 year ago
@1990MattC Thats why Grung Is Dead is such a great book it doesn't fall into that.
MrWiiPS360 1 year ago
@MrWiiPS360 its horrible, there are disgusting bands that try and be grunge, but they make it all sheeny and poppy, people like nickleback and creed, stained etc. its the worst music ever to be released and diserves to be only ever used as cheesy wrestling music
MayonaiseKing100 1 year ago 4
@1990MattC Noooo id say its pretty even, nirvana had such a huge impact then kurt did what he did and thats what they use to dramatize the whole thing, thats why they keep reminding you about it every second scene
BradyAdams 1 year ago
@1990MattC no grunge existed without them, nirvana made grunge accessible outside of the pacific northwest, u think u would know who the fuck L7, Babes In Toyland, or Hole r without nirvana, mudhoney, or other punk/hard rock influenced bands FROM THE NORTHWEST, doubt it, i hate that kurt outshadows everythin else except to those who know better but itd be like saying why the fuck do u mention the beatles, arthur lee and love, the doors, jefferson airplane were in the 60's too
Kurtney4594 1 year ago
@Kurtney4594 besides no shit everyone knows nirvana more, they sold in utero at kmarts and walmarts to be more accessible to people who dont live in the northwest, and dont even pull that im not mainstream bullshit and say pearl jam are more talented and/or better, TEN has nothing grunge(which is based on the sound, nothing more, its where the term is based from, a dirty, grimey, grindy sound, like grunge sounds like when its grunge) pearl jam are a hard rock band, a good one infact, not grunge
Kurtney4594 1 year ago
@1990MattC kuz Nirvana was grunge
kdub0911 1 year ago
@1990MattC Well, seeing as the whole music scene itself, in the eyes of the world wide tabloid media, revolved around a couple of hyped junkies who had a kid, it`s sort of fitting. A grunge docu wouldn`t be complete without a chapter on the "twisted love-hate-love-life of the Cobains and their kid" just like it wouldn`t be complete without the fact that the generation who embraced it (all the music - not the hype) felt drawn to the lyrics not reprinted in the press.

@1990MattC how is it sad. nirvana is the beatles of grunge.
Butown 11 months ago 2
@1990MattC hey you might wanna show a little respect, if it wasnt for nirvana, none of those other bands would even be famous. Dont act like your so "grunge" and dont care about fame. I wish kurt would come back to life just so he could slap you in the face, poser.
maxmatt4 11 months ago 2

So before you guys bite my head off fuck Courtney Love.

i'm not..
Glam Metal is awesome. so's Grunge.
KISS83LICKITUP 2 years ago
Its my opinion n ima get all technical n stuff... i think glam metal was a low point in the eighties. All glam metal was is image, selling out, MTV, and heavy commercialism. U may think the songs r catchy n stuff but its not gonna change or influence anything. Glam metal didn't really hav any depth or meaning, plus a lot of it's just posers; each one with worse shred solos n more make up. Personally I respect Metallica, Guns N' Roses, gangsta rap, and most of all grunge 4 killing glam metal.
wangsta25 2 years ago
i told my friend the other day glam metal was just the rock equivalent of what rap has become
yoshu2 2 years ago
exactly, rap used 2 be so liget, until bling, auto-tune, n MTV came and fucked everything up
wangsta25 2 years ago 10
@yoshu2 I'm a huge hip hop fan and I couldn't agree more. In terms of the quality of music in the respective genres, rap in the '00s had A LOT in common with rock in the '80s. But rap is currently in a very similar stage that rock was in 1990. It's "backpack" era is probably only about a year or two away.
(by the way, "backpack" is pretty much the hip hop equivalent of "grunge")
neqquah 1 year ago
I hear ya but there was a lot of good glam-metal too. But towards the end it had just become a caricature of itself. It needed a good kick in the ass. That's how grunge came to be. I've lived all of my 48 years here in Seattle and it indeed was a fun time watching the "scene" explode. I saw many of the bands that became huge at small little joints here before they became huge. Alice was always my fave. I love my grunge but I also love a lot of the best of the glammier metal too.

Actually, he does mention suicide in the Song Milk It from In Utero. Just sayin'

TheButcher1982 2 years ago 9
@TheButcher1982 the first half yes. Similar to the late 60's/early 70's. The late 90's were even worse than the late 80's and late 70's IMO (though, of course, not as bad as the entirety of the 00's :/)

that has to go to the 70s.
not the 90s.

just believe it, kurt actually did kill himself. BUT, i also believe that love did contribute a lot as a major factor.
sorry to say, but he was pretty messed up on his own already b4 she came along. then she pushed everyone outta kurt's life, and asked kurt to write songs for her. if u been with a woman that all ur frens hate, u'd get a slight idea wat it mite have been 4 him.
mayb she also influenced kurt to further drug abuse. she's not the entire reason but is a major one. just my 2 cents!

what I don't like is that glamorous image of sub pop being a mothership for grunge bands and helping them, supporting them and shit like that I think that Sup pop was in fact about to die kind of a label in 1990/1991 and the factor that saved them was in fact money from nirvana's soundgarden's, mudhoney's, major label's sold albums. Sup pop was like old man smoking cigarette standing next to his grave at the time. That label shoudl be honoured but not in the way this documentary shows it.
kurowskijacek 2 years ago
I'm surprised (so far) there has been no mention of Stone Temple Pilots. I don't consider them grunge, but I don't consider a lot of these bands grunge...but I figured they would be lumped with Pearl Jam, AIC, Nirvana, Soundgarden, etc.

I love grunge, but STP was better than all of these guys. Core is a classic.
slayar764 2 years ago
@GoBucks2828: If Pearl Jam were hated by some alternative people when they came out, it's nothing compared to what Stone Temple went through. Critics thought they were going to turn alternative into a corporate world, and called Core a bad AIC and Pearl Jam rip-off. I'd guess the reason they didn't make it in is because they weren't really important to alternative (though they are a good band) and they were from San Diego not Seattle.

i know right. THE GLORY DAYS 1987-1994 it was back when life didn't suck
ClassicGamer88 2 years ago
@ClassicGamer88 The real glory days of music would have probably been 1966-1975, but the hard rock/grunge era is also up there. It'll be nice when all this pop shit finally implodes and real music comes back. Pop music is being kept in life support by MTV, Clear Channel, American idol, etc. despite its noticeable decline in sales and fans. Britney Spears is the perfect example of this.
