There's a scene that didn't make it to the final cut where mystique turns into Azazel and fights him. They shot an Azazel vs Azazel fight with a martial arts choreography. It was a pity it got deleted.
@shadowkid1993. They have met in the comics & fought aswell. (it took nightcrawler to get help from his brother abys(another cool character) to beat azazel)
Azazel and Nightcrawler are both level 5 mutants, it's just that Azazel has more experience with frighting and is more creative with his attacks. Either way I would love to have either of their powers. I would never be late to anything again ^_^
is it safe to assume Azazel travels through the Underworld when he teleports? there's fire when he poofs from place to place, but not when Nightcrawler does.......... hmmmmmmmmmmmmm.... lol
@purpleluver74 it's a dimension that he made that is the same as earth but everything is fire and brimstone. so every object would be made of brimstone and there's fire everywhere and he flies at the speed of light through that dimension and once he reaches his destination he comes back. that's why you see smoke and a trace of brimstone in the air where he appears and disappears:)
@XFlNE lol i don't see what their difference in skin color has to do with where they go when they teleport. @itsthefish23 already explained the appearance or lack of fire in the smoke; nightcrawler's just blue because his mom's blue

In the movies, I think Azazel would win simply because he has more fighting experience and his teleportation abilities completely outmatches his sons.
However, in the comics, I'd say they're pretty evenly matched. Because even though Azazel is ridiculously powerful, he's also overconfident and relies too heavily on that power. Kurt, on the other hand, is exceedingly clever and creative in combat situations and has years of experience taking down opponents who are far more powerful than himself.

Nightcrawler is his father's son. Even when he's trying to be good, you definitely see Azazel's personality and mannerisms in him. Hands down.
I don't know if we'll see a progression of Azazel's and Mystique's relationship in the next two X-Men films 'cause, she's still gotta meet Sabretooth, have Graydon and get married to Baron Wagner. Then again, they might skip some of that because how many of us really cared about Graydon Creed? I wanna see some Azazel and Mystique lovin'!
@turfute I'm not really sure what did Kurt use to disguise himself (maybe something like Xavier's "holowatch") when security man first spotted him but the next secon his tail appears and his human skin (though with scars as well) sort of wears off from his forehead to chin. So it was just remaining part of it

However, I don't think they'd actually fight in the movies, unless it was down to a Erik/Charles standoff. In the comics, Mystique never finds out that Azazel deeply loves her and Kurt, and abandoned them so the people trying to kill him wouldn't find them :/

@elleoneiram definitely, i think azazel will win, although nightcrawler is more agile, like his mother, he still has not mastered his teleport skill. azazel on the othe hand, can does not suffer from the limits of needing to see or know where he is teleporting, and he is also a master swordsman, plus he has a few other tricks up his sleeves, which was not shown in the movie( found it on wikipedia)

@elleoneiram - Even though it's been ages since I read the comics, I believe Azazel is still alive. Azazel is just in his home dimension (Brimstone Dimension). After the X-Men (and three of his own children) killed off his army "Neyaphem" (he was trying to open a portal to bring them back to Earth), he went into exile and never returned to Earth.
