  • Singing is respectable, but the rest of the production is horrible.

Dommage...

  • OMGoodness! Staging gets a HUGE thumbs down... Singing pretty darn fabulous....

  • They have forgotten the peanut butter and sardines!

  • @Whistlejocket LOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL !! and the bread !

  • If the director wanted to transform Offenbach to a moribund composer he unfortunately achieved his goal.

  • C'est si bizarre!

  • this is not the best rendition of this classic

    but

you dont see chests like that on skinny pop singers

  • Each performance of this opera is a creation of its own. If you don't like it then don't watch. I love this performance because it doesn't rely on just expensive costumes and scenery. It requires that the performers actually sing, and I will add that they do a very good job. The austerity complements the beautiful singing.

  • *_*

  • I usually am a fan of Kent Nagano. However, he plays this too fast and too dryly, the singers are crap and the stage director should be fired (or fired at).

  • @LordHettrick HAHAHA Fired at would cheer me!

  • Is not Agnes Baltsa one of those mezzosoprano?

  • Why is Nicklausse dressed as a woman? Is the director unaware of what a trouser role is?

  • I agree with You, jonedelleman!

  • Comment removed

  • you can tell immediately by her voice that it's not Bartoli.

  • No. The pair seems to be Isabelle Vernet and Brigitte Balleys. Both are mezzos.

  • Umm....that was.....different.

  • The WORST Offenbach version ever!!! Painful to eyes.

  • What shit ! If they want to be sick, let them do it in their own walls and not spit onto a good classical piece.

    The decline of culture !

  • So is the black lady supposed to be another prostitute and he water puddle he splashes in supposed to be Venician canals? Or is the black lady gone mad b/c she thinks she tries to be part of a higher class?

  • What do you mean with " b/c"????

  • in english, b/c means because.

  • Why there is a person who is died????

  • Time flies by, and carries away

    Our tender caresses for ever!

Time flies far from this happy oasis

    And does not return

    Burning zephyrs

    Embrace us with your caresses!

    Burning zephyrs

    Give us your kisses!

    Your kisses! your kisses! ah!

  • WHAT THE FUCK????

  • Is that a skylight, or are they singing under a large trash chute?

Great singing, sensuous choreography, but the direction was like watching your grandmother dance in hotpants at your graduation. A very bad trip!

  • they were miming you idiot.

  • horrible!

  • I'm as moist as an eclair down there!

  • I bet you are !!!!!

  • Damn girlfriend got some tig ol' bittays!

  • don't know as the others, but I always felt that something is not so simple as it seems in ofenbach's barcarole. it has always seemed to me a bit more tragic and a bit more profound than it is used to be put on the stage.

in this context I found this performance (even a part of it) concordant with my feelings to offenbach's perusal of the 'tales'.

i would have gladly seen it in a full version, to understand the very idea of the director. may be he understood the genius of maestro offenbach.

  • loolll! what is this? The singsing is good, but... but... XD

  • Nice singing, but I'm sorry, this looks like the work of a director on drugs having a bad dream or some severe withdrawal hallucinations. I HATE when they do crap like this and ruin the opera by trying to put their idiotic stamp on it! Argh!!!!!

  • Thank you!!!

Had someone filmed my face while I was watching this, it probably would have made a perfect scene in a comedy! I became progressively puzzled, confused, finally complete bewildered! Your description of the director having a bad trip on drugs can't be beat.

  • it wasn't a bad trip... it was an overdose! xD

  • lol

  • you're SO right, this kind of crap production not ruins ruins the opera for sure but wastes great singers. What they say about critics "those who can - do, those who can't become critics" is true for some directors: those who can compose those who can't direct. Trying to "create" their own opera but dismally failing and ruining it for the audience in the process - unclean - unclean ........

  • @TheDivaSharon

i agree - what's the skinny one doing? she's touching the other one all over the place?

  • hail hitler???? ASSHOLE SON OF A BITCH!!!!!!! FUCK YOU DIRTY BASTARD!!!!!!

  • you assholes its heil hitler, and hitler suck cocks in hell...

  • Excelente y sobresaliente! Puesta en escena. ME encanta la resolución de la orquesta.

  • That guy has really cool hair...

  • Splendid, Renee Fleming/Susan Graham version coming in the new movie "Margaret"

  • I didnt know you uploaded this.

  • It's the second one. It would be really great if you did though!

  • Yeah, honestly what DID just happen? I was under the impression from the Olympia act clips that that lady was an asylum attendant but all of a sudden now she's Giulietta?! This production is so out there, I love it! But will no one upload the Antonia act?

  • YES REALLY IS AN ASYLUM, FOR HOFFMANN IS CRAZY, CRAZY. I PREFER HOFFMAN DE DOMINGO AND COTRUBAS AND THE OTHERS, ALL WONDERFULL, FRON cOVENT GARDEN.
