  • I wrote 1 minute solo, I wanted it to be very catchy, so I tried to be very melodic. 3days after recording the song, I heard the same melody as mine on some guitarist, I found out that it was the sample melody of the guitar contest I watched about a week before recording the solo, unconsciously, I copied the melody. The same thing could've happened here.

  • Everyone read about it on wikipedia, isn't that hard. Seems like they both copied the song.

  • could pay to Joe

  • who cares if he copied? everyone hates coldplay anyway, of course joe will get credit...

  • Chris Martin said Satriani lacked originality? Jesus, I've truly lost a lot of respect from Coldplay, you can't say that about one of the worlds greatest musicians when you yourself are only able to string together a basic chord sequence.

  • I would LOVE to have them do a song together like this. It sounds pretty badass does not?

  • They do that again, compare the beginning of Paradise with MGMT Kids (long version with creatures), practically 100% copy.

  • Cheese.

I think this video sounds better than either than the songs.

By the way, I believe it was Pablo Picasso who said, "Good Artists Borrow, Great Artists Steal." Just keep in mind that inspiration is everywhere. Didn't Brahms go into the woods and "stole" the melodies from Gypsies for his Hungarian Dances? And plenty of artists have done versions of songs that they didn't compose--Fantasia on Greensleeves for an example. Just think about that please.

  • @Salmon0fKnowledge true.but most artists who use others melodies give the writer credit or make a tribute of some sort. instead coldplay were able to f*** up an incredible piece of art. Now that i think about it, the lyrics of viva la vida are just gibberish. Coincidence? i don't think so, they did'nt even make and effort to make it believable(they could have wrote real poetry instead of stringing random words and splash it on an already crafted melody)

  • @Bogandrummer Changing the key does not stop a song from plagiarizing another, if the two have the same chord progression and undeniably similar melodies. The songs have been transposed in this video in order to eliminate the pitch clash inherent in dueling keys, so that the identical chord progression and similar melodies are more obvious to listeners.

  • I can't believe that douchebag actually said Satriany lacked originality....

  • wath fuckin deuce

  • I have a feeling those quotes are gonna be out of contexts. Probably one of those jokes that people make but when they are out of context, sound really bad.

  • they should have compromised and put both songs together and released it together, they could do live shows and everything

  • Even if the methods used to record Viva La Vida were less than noble it is still a great song. If you deny its a great song you deny Joe Satriani's amazing composition and guitar work. While I really enjoyed Joe's song I still prefer Coldplay's rip for the vocals and extra elements to the song..

  • @ekim61 exactly what extra elements? bad singing? and the only good thing being an orchestra? Joe improvised all of the melodies and solos on that song. And he doesn't need any other instruments to add to the atmosphere of the song. His guitar sings over everything. Listen to more Joe before you say Coldplay wrote a better song than Joe's.

  • coldplay forever u.u

  • satriani is fucking beast. but this is just bull shit

  • Ha, nice job combining two great songs, independently composed seems to me.

Similarities feed the mouth of non creative souls

  • Viva la vida was recorded in 2007. If I Could Fly was recorded in 2004, 3 years before. Took 7 years to write and was dedicated to his wife. That is one of the big reasons to the lawsuit. It is a very special song for Joe. The money paid by Coldplay to Joe was given to charity. Joe never wanted Coldplay money, was only a matter of principles.

  • Whoa, I rarely say this but, oh man that "imagodonutube" guys sure is an idiot.

  • Could Play

  • man im special my comment got u guys so fucking worked up ..its called an opinion im not dissing joe im just saying im a coldplay fan so deal with my opinion and dont be a bitch about it

i actully like both songs there great im just saying viva la vida is btter to me like if i could fly is to you now again stop being little whiiny bitches about this

  • Can i just say, the royal anthem of about 10 different countries in europe are sung to the same tune as 'God save the queen', along with the american patriotic anthem 'My country, tis of thee'. as well as this listen to J-lo-on the floor, then Los Kjarkas-Llorando se fue, you'll find they sound exactly the same. there aren't enough notes and sequences in the world to be original any more...

  • @imagodonutube When movies are remade the rights to the story are acquired by the studio who wishes to reproduce it. That's why nobody cries foul. What coldplay did here is blatant plagiarism. Musicians borrow from songs unintentionally quite often, and that's okay. Sometimes songs sound similar. Coldplay, however, has admitted to the fact that it was plagiarism. If they wanted to use the song they should have credited Satriani after asking for permission to use the melody.

  • selling music groups in the world" TRUE FACT look it up and thats should settle it now shut the fuck up and stop debating because no matter how hard you try coldplay will always be on peoples mind when it comes to that beat and they will always be better but jow is cool and very talented so guys just be quiet and stop trolling and i hope this gets through ur guys heads yeah so yeah be smart kids befor u speak

  • @imagodonutube Oh yea... And coldplay did NOT make the song better... They made it SIMPLER. And because people who don't know ANYTHING about music, simpler music catches their ear more easily. Joe is beyond that. He doesn't play for whats popular, he plays for himself and his devoted fans. And learn some correct grammar boy, this may be the internet, but you act, and talk like a 12 year old. Sorry bro.

  • @imagodonutube Were you trying to make that rant totally incomprehensible? Cause that's what happened.

Here's something we all learned in grade one. "Copying the work of another person, without crediting them(plagiarism) is wrong. Also illegal." Coldplay made a lot of money with someone else's work. Coldplay are NOT gods in the music world. Most musicians hate them for being talent-less hacks who can't write an original song.

  • guys joe or fucking stach whatever u call this guy he is a very good gutair player but coldplay makes music people want to listen to his song has 2 million views coldplay 77 million and he was 2004 maybe people just dont like what he did and coldplay makes things better than they were i mean its not stealing at all why would u sue them unless you knew they did it better and everyone was talking about it and how great it is then he was probobly like "fuck im dumb for not making this better

  • @imagodonutube I swear dude you are a dumbass. Joe Satriani did what any musician would do. Protect his own original song. Joe is probably 101% original. And not to mention, he's probably one of the most humble musicians out there. He wouldnt give a shit that coldplay made the song more "famous" than his song. He does music for the love of music. Coldplay does it for the love of being gay and gettin money.

  • The two songs actually sound good mixed together maybe they should tour together. It could be called the "2012 compromise tour"

  • joe satriani has a gold record, thats enough to make him an international superstar, he then went on to tutor 4 guitarists all of which would achieve gold or platinum album in their respective bands, so yeah, coldplay shud hav taken this case more seriously. The world would be a better place without them, pretentious and stupid bastards

  • Rise Against beats them all.

  • "Viva la vida" This song came out before that "If i could fly"

  • @wiilma1 What kind of education system were you raised on? Coldplay's song "Viva La Vida" came out in 2008 and Satriani's "If I Could Fly" came out in 2004. Do your research before you make a dumb statement and embarrass yourself in front of hundreds of people next time.

  • @wiilma1

.... Makes me wonder how moronic Americans can get. Google both songs. Satch has been around longer and his definitely came out first. Holy shit, you people amaze me with your utter stupidity. Look, Coldplay has a history of stealing from other musicians, which in my book doesn't make them musicians at all.

The greatest shame of any musician is stealing other peoples' work. This shows a lack of confidence in their own talents, and shows they are unoriginal. Coldplay steals for money.

  • @dionkar336 At first, I'm not American and use a translator which is embarrassing and I think Coldplay is like that, you're right .. the songs are like but it is in music and everything seems to always make a big scandal. Well let's say that Coldplay "stole" this song is clearly not anything to do that but I do not think they are the way you describe and insult.

  • am i the only one that realizes how good of a mash up this is?!

  • I love how some people can't understand sarcasm.

  • Hypothesis: Chris Martin (Coldplay-singer) arrives in a shoe store. He heard the Satriani song without mentionning it conscious. Later that day he writes a song called Viva la Vida, every note fits perfect, and the song is very catchy to him the very first time. He just wrote the melody as if it was his melody.

I think it happened something like this. That the songs are similar no one can denie, but Coldplay are too big to risk plagiarism in my opinion.

  • @Ajax110 Robert Palmer said that that's how he wrote 'Some Guys Have All The Luck', hearing the song subliminally and then writing a similar version. To his credit, he did the retrospectively credit the original author.

  • Satriani make covers on his life when he do covers he says first, this is a cover , not my music.

Coldplay doesnt, they just lied to us.

And there is the diference of a profesional musician and a comercial fake musician.

  • @tomaspepino

That's also a reason why I don't think it was plagiarism. Coldplay used a melody by Kraftwerk (Computer love by Kraftwerk turned into Talk by Coldplay). Coldplay asked permission to use the melody. Why wouldn't they ask permission to Joe Satriani?

  • mmm , then is ok :P

  • @Ajax110 Hyphothesis: Coldplay are a bunch of cynical dicks, and are smart enough to know that the public neither knows nor cares when they hear something the second time around. They hear satriani's song, like it, and literally re-write it in their own fashion and then sell it.

  • @Ajax110 There is a fair chance that that was the case however, Joe Satriani's music is not played in every shoe store, it is more something you would explicitly look for in music stores, on youtube or somewhere else. Furthermore, unintentionally copying someone else's work still doesnt make it lawfully yours.

    Also AFCA ;)

  • @Ajax110 No, they knowingly did it, knowing that the song would be huge. Bowie did the same thing in 1972 with "Starman". He stole it from "Somewhere over the Rainbow" and even said that he did. Anyways, if they didn't, why did they settle in court.... to the sum of money that HE wanted?

  • oh man... coldplay suck so much xD they are so lame and so limited that they had to rip off mr. satriani xD

  • @HustlerMuri - sad thing is that "worldwide hits" are created by people who largely know little about music or playing music purchasing things that have often been created by music companies to appeal to those mass sectors of the music buying population which buys pop music. Satriani does not write or play pop music. Coldplay play pop music!

@Koba123 - as someone who has personally met and spoken with Joe Satriani I can confirm that you are 100% wrong with your rambling comment! FACT!

  • Reminds me of that time that that douche whose name I can remember ripped off Led Zeppelin's Dyer Maker.

  • @VanHalenLedZeppelin7 That reminds me of the many times that Led Zepplin plagarized withouth crediting the proper source. If anyone has ripped people off and pretty much gotten away with it, Paige is up there. Still love the band though.

  • @mad3rab You spelt Page wrong

  • OK Coldplay just plain sucks, so I doubt they would have the taste to listen to Satriani. And the two songs are totally different.

  • wait, so they are saying they nick stuff from other songs, say they are cool about it, then as soon as one artist doesn't like that, they throw a hissy fit?

god, what a bunch of fucktards.

  • I think the chord progression could have been an accident, but the vocal/guitar phrases are WAY too simular to be chance.

  • Um...what to say...hmm...nothing, really. Those who hate Coldplay will buy this, and those who don't will not. No one's opinions will change, regardless of how information comes out. I will just ask this: if Coldplay was really ripping off of bands, do you think they would be vocal about it? Wouldn't they have more lawsuits? Every single artist here would have a valid case if they wanted to sue Coldplay, so why didn't they? Ponder that, and tell me if that makes sense.

  • @SonOfMana100 they can say anything they want to, but if a court doesn't have sufficient evidence to suggest that coldplay copied their material then nobody is going to sue.

  • Satch not only helped musicians, he changed the way solo guitar was played during the 80s. Surfing With The Alien was the Bible for every aspiring guitar player then and even now. This song is the culmination of ten years hard work. Disappoints me when a group of young semi-talented artists don't give respect where credit is due. Regardless of 5 notes, they ripped off arguably one of the greatest rock guitar players.

  • idiot fan girls of coldplay make me sick.

  • completely different! loool once more...

  • Satch is an artiste. coldplay used to be good, ther is a lot of difference between guitar virtuoso and stadium( wannabe) bedwetter band.

  • tremendo plagio!! pero que copiones que son los de coldplay

    inventen su propia música loco!!!

  • Joe Satriani is everything that is wrong with modern day America. Greedy and selfish.

  • Where you hear a similarity to Viva la Vida. Please compare the success of Coldplay to Joe Satriani. Satriani is just angry because he has no worldwide hit.

  • @HustlerMuri Yeah. One of the most well known guitarists on the planet DEFINITELY doesn't have a worldwide hit.

  • @whomad1215

Well, in principle, he does - viva la vida!

  • Those quotes sound like bullshit you just made up, but you say them with such authority...Are they actual quotes or not?

  • This makes me sad. Coldplay was one of my favorite bands, but if they're shameless thieves who steal almost all of their songs and laugh about it, I can't respect that at all. Pity to waste the talent they could've had.

  • they are both utterly boring and can be of interest to no-one .....

  • I think overall Copyright on music is simply stupid. Music is free. You may own your song, but not music. I find it really annoying that I can't share music on youtube because of copyright. I mean, shouldn't you only credit the one who made the songs, and that's that? However, not giving credit to your influences, when they're so obvious, is disrespectful. Coldplay disappointed me.

  • Accept the reality as it is Coldplay are thiefs of the musical apreciation!

  • I'm a big Coldplay fan and it really annoys me when people accuse them of plagiarism. In this there are what, 5 notes that are the same!?? the rest is COMPLETELY different!! There's only a certain amount of combinations of notes in the world, so some are gonna be the same!! So stop complaining!! Coldplay are brilliant!! :D

  • @DreamFool95 I can tell you're not a musician. There's much more than that

  • Comment removed

  • @DreamFool95 no your not a musician, hear the chord structure? its basically identical, and the opening melody was almost identical for 7 bars. let me dumb it down for you. 7 bars are 4 beats? alright? and in one bar you can shove as many as note as you want, and the second bar into the opening melody alone contained 5 identical notes.

  • Satch is such an amazing musician he can write amazing music and tought great guitarists how to play like hammet and vai for exammple...he deserves better than to be ripped off

  • Coldplay should be FORCED to stop stealing people's music. If they ever steal any of my shit, I'll end them so fast.

  • Every artist is a cannibal....every poet is a thief...

  • yeah if you notice Joe plays about 9 clear notes and mumbles the rest....Coldplay actually if anything completed the riff notes. Its funny to see people stop "liking" Coldplay when Elvis Presley and almost all other artists did the same thing for so many more songs. No one bitched about Gary Jules covering mad world, he made the song better.

  • @carrolocco Did they say they made the song? Did they give credit?

  • @BillOralRushRimjob there's no point in arguing with you, you're an idiot.

  • @carrolocco LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL I GOT HIM DIDNT I GUISE XDXDXDXDXD

  • @BillOralRushRimjob nope you just proved my point, a quick look at your page just made me realized that.

  • @carrolocco Do you understand satire?

  • @carrolocco dude a cover is called a cover for a reason.. god is your IQ low.

  • @Pierceher Uh define what a cover means to you? and whats your point? For example Many people believe Elvis wrote his early songs like "Love Me Tender" and "All Shook Up" all the songs he performed he did not write. He is credited as co-writer for every song because of his condition of contract that Elvis would not record the song unless he was credited as co-writer. I'm pretty sure if the case was similar with the Beatles a lot of people would hate them just because they did not write them

  • XD

Anyone who's seen some proper interviews of Chris Martin or the guys from Coldplay would know that everything that this guy is quoting is all sarcastic. I laughed my ass off at half of them.

  • firstly - Viva La Vida is a far superior song. secondly - not similar enough at all for the prosecution to go any further. thirdly - Coldplay have always been plagarists, they take good songs and make them A-mazin', thats why we love them! haha...

  • Comment removed

  • Wow this is thick! Anyone who actually knows Coldplay as a band at all would know that they're notorious for this kind of humor and sarcasm! Chris is constantly making jokes about how Coldplay are actually rubbish and unoriginal and it's all just something to give the fans a laugh. True the songs may sound similar but that happens all the time. Most songs have another song that they sounds like too!

  • There are more than 4 songs have some same similar chords with Viva la vida and Coldplay is the only band accused to rip off music. Is that because of their song is successful? WTF!! No one is original including Joe or Coldplay. I don't care if u hate Coldplay for whatever reason but this case has been settled now we have 2 good to listen even though they are similar. Stop taking about priginal and those quotes proves nothing especially for anyone loves COldplay's music.

  • Are these quotes real?

  • @HardcoreAssKickinWiZ

They're definitely real, they're all just sarcastic.

  • obviously its gonna sound like they stole the song if you mix them together. All the two songs have in common is about 5 notes in the guitar lead and a similar key. Good luck writing a song with an original key because there are not many to choose from. Satriani is fuckin elevator music this video is bull shit

  • Cold Play Needs to get a life Personally I cant stand him This May Not be Joes but i love his vertion better Beber and cold play are really gay lovers any ways

  • @grampyc

........How old are you, whipper snapper?

  • I love Chris Martin for all those sarcastic comments!

  • Coldplay is Amazing, what about they make one or two song like plagiators? They have over 30 amazing own SONG BITCHES!

  • I like both Coldplay (recently) and I've been a fan of Joe for 20 years. Good for Joe that he called em out on this. I'm disappointed in Coldplay's attitude and lack of respect.

  • FUCKING COLDPLAY, JOE YOU ARE THE BEST GUITARIST IN THE WORLD!!!

  • Coldplay are really really fucking shit. Jus' sayin, like.

  • SERIOUSLY. Has anyone heard of 4 Chord Song by the Axis of Awesome? THIS CLEARLY SHOWS THAT ALL MODERN SONGS HAVE BASICALLY THE SAME CHORD PROGRESSION. Search it up.

  • @xxoxxkellyxxoxx did you listen to the rest of the song? the melody he used was the same melody as the vocals, but only for the little bit at the begining

  • @xxoxxkellyxxoxx obviously the same chord progressions are used in modern music. theres only so much you can do. it's the melodies that need to be changed, look at any of the beatles songs and compare them to some of you modern favorites brah. and typically you would say "look it up" not "search it up"

  • this remix sound soo good!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I still like coldplay and satriani... I don't see why you guys are all bitching about whether coldplay is better or if satriani is better...they're all good in their own sense, both artists would be disappointed in you if they knew their music brought fighting and anger when it was probably intended for the opposite.

  • Whats the big fucking deal? So what if two songs sound alike? They're are MILLIONS of songs out there, and yeah, you're going to have a lot that sound the same, get over it. 4 songs that I know share this melody, and if anything, its entertaining. It gives you 4 different versions of the song, that you can either love or hate. I for one like Coldplay (not a fan of their new stuff), and Joe Satriani is fucking fantastic.

  • @tallperson1 You are absolutely right, sir. Millions of millions of songs out there, but in the end, people will take things and warp them to fit what they want. *shrug*

  • If those gay bitches copy Beatles, they re fucked up... it's like goodie bye coldplay...

  • @xXJohnnYhellkitXx no one is talking about the beetles..

  • satriani is a genius and he doens't need the fame of the song 'viva la vida'

so why would he lie about it?!

  • It can be summed up as the following:

Coldplay are the most dreary boring band of all time.

Satriani on the other hand is one of the most flambuoyant and skilled guitarists of all time.

  • You guys are idiots if u think that coldplay even compares to Satriani. He doesnt have to plagerize and has more talent in his left pinky than coldplay combined. coldplay is overproduced studio crap

  • Comment removed

  • @Gabrielle94able Totally truw. I didn't even know who the fuck Satriani was until he sued them.

  • @Gabrielle94able The song was written by Joe... So stfu and listen... Your freaking beloved coldplay are a fucking bunch of gay bitches that win their life copying other people songs! WHO the FUCK ARE COLDPLAY COMPARED TO SATRIANI OR RADIOHEAD OR JEFF BUCKLEY... PS: You haven't heard of it because you, don't mind listening to crap so you don't search for better music... Next time you defend a bunch of idiots that just have talent to steal, I will be there to comment again. Idiot.

  • @xXJohnnYhellkitXx

Wow R u serious right now? I was just expressing my opinion. That is extremely rude of you to call me a name just because of my opinion. People are allowed to have their own opinions. If you don't agree with my opinion then FINE. That's cool. But don't call me a name about it. You don't even know me. It's just a song. There really is no need to get so hostile about it.

  • @Gabrielle94able Probably because hes right your a fucking idiot

  • @Gabrielle94able Well Coldplay got more famous on behalf of Joe. I still dont think that the song is a masterpiece. Especially not in Coldplays version. Coldplay is the most boring, monotone, yodel-moaning crap i have ever heard.

(now you'll probably point out my grammatical errors, but that won't change the outcome of Coldplays plagiarized crap.)

  • I personally think that Coldplay is better, but that is my opinion. But, Joe Satriani (did I spell his name right?) is good in his own way ( but I still like Coldplay). ( I refuse to insult/bash Joe Satriani, it's just plain rude to do that.)

  • @TheSt0rm14 nope the main melody of satriani's song is being ripped off by the singer's lines. he just did a comparison did you not hear it?

  • Here's my 10 cents. I HAVE NOT been in the music business very long. Going on about 8 years now. (In my opinion that is only infancy to the music world.) And I would be somewhat honored by what Coldplay did. (If that IS what they did.) BUT For them to flat out lie like they have about stealing the riffs. That is far worse then if they would have just got the balls up and confessed to the crime. Especially when they have made millions off of this ONE song in particular. Just my thoughts though.

  • To add to my comment

Coldplay has also gone and bashed Joe calling him "Unoriginal" amongst other things. Now Joe on the other hand, had been fairly civil about the entire thing. He even gave them the option to confess to them stealing the music and they just threw it in his face. THEN they proceeded to throw a huge tantrum and act like 2 year olds when they finally settled the case. I now HATE Coldplay due to their lack of any honor and not to mention realizing THEY are Unoriginal as musicians.

  • @BDogGrizzly

Coldplay is so immature!! Why would anyone want to bash a 50 year old who's helped a lot people become brillant musicians? : (

  • @BDogGrizzly Rofl.. no shit, if someone said I stole something even if I didn't I wouldn't care how "civil" the person acted, this guy is great, but hes a fuckin nobody compared to Cold Play.

  • @BDogGrizzly sadly, that is how the world works now. the older generation are cool about things like that, then the new generation act like toddlers fighting in a sandpit. one moment, they are friends, the next they are trying to blind each other with sand whilst trying to rip off the other guy's head.

ofc, there are exceptions to this rule.

  • @BDogGrizzly I hate 'em since the beginning :)

  • Dood. This is how music evolves. Plus don't compare the beauty and dynamics of Coldplay to Satriani's soul-less ass. I can't even imagine writing songs as terrible as Satriani. Coldplay did him a service and turned something dry and stillborn into something ALIVE.

  • @jojoclown777 well I find that satriani is the one who brings it "ALIVE" and coldplay are dry but that just personal opinion and taste. However your comment "This is how music evolves" is very true and I can agree with you strongly on this.

  • song* not note

  • dude... who the fuck cares. theres no such thing as actual originality. only creativity. satriani did nothing special with this note. if coldplay did anything wrong out of this.... they made a crappy radio song instead of sticking to better music not made for the masses

  • With every Coldplay hit i hear, i think "haven't i heard this melody/riff already?"

    I was right all along!

  • Coldplay's song is better, even if they did steal it.

  • I would have sued them they clearly stole his song.

  • Regardless of the whole tiresome debate about who is right between Satriani and Coldplay - how good does this sound when put together?!!

  • I HATE COLDPLAY SINCE THEY RIPPED OFF MY FAVE MUSIC ARTIST/GUITARIST. SCREW YOU COLDPLAY. :)

  • Copyright is killing creativity.

  • @BackstrokeOfTheWest

Plagiarism isn't creativity, it's quite the opposite actually.

  • Imma have to agree....it doesn't sound all that much to Viva La Vida. If i had listened to Joe without knowledge, i would think they're two different songs and have different beats. But even after knowing, it still doesn't sound the same. I don't know, it's hard getting the viva la vida rhythm when i listen to the song by Joe. Not trying to say one person or another is right.....i'm just having a tough time putting one and one together.....

  • Why would anyone plagiarize Radiohead? Gross.

  • I don't think it sounds much like Viva la Vida at all to be honest.. You could do this video with any song with a similar beat and get the same result.. But that's just my thoughts on it, so..

  • honestly i would put this on my ipod, i like it more then either of the the songs separate

  • satriani is shit, have farted better songs.

  • Sounds more like coincidence. Anyway Coldplay doesn't sound so original. They are more like Beatles inspired and my other bands from 80's. Whereas Satch is original and guitar god of our time. Hats off to Mr. Satiriani.

  • @ashishdewanful

... did you read the quotes?

The melody and feel is almost exactly the same. The chords are almost exactly the same. Of course it's freaking stolen!

  • I do think that it is amazing that when simply combined the songs sound really good together!

  • I AGREE WITH PETER GRIFFIN.

  • "All artists steal from other artists. The best artists just never get caught."

Well... Coldplay, you got caught. Tsk, tsk.

  • shit. I didnt realize Coldplay were such plagerists... :/ haha theyre still one of my favorite bands though but damn.. haha

  • There will always be someone claiming that someone else made a song that sounds like theirs. First there was Queen and Vanilla Ice, then there was Oasis and Green Day, now there's Joe Satriani and Coldplay. It's not gonna stop here, it will keep going on and on and on and on...

  • coldplay doesnt have the guts to admit it they just tried to make themselves seem less bad so they can still write i mean copy music

  • Half the shit you have him saying isn't that bad and the other half seems like you don't have the all the context to really understand what he is saying. If he did steal any music it doesn't seem like it was that much. Coldplay is awesome! Someone had to come up with a g em c d progression and thousands of songs use it. Joe Santriani is a great guitarist but he doesn't play anything that I think that sounds good.

  • @szumwalt what do you think is good that pop garbage? or maybe those computerly enhanced rappers?

  • @szumwalt they are not a good band men and we dont to insult coldplay, they fuck up everithing when they talk the group admitted that they re use plagarism to make, what else you have to say, a could have done plagiarism with a couple of friends, because you cant tell me that that band has a singer like freddie mercury, or a guitarrist like steve vai, like they say they dont have any creativity they lack everything

  • @grilloderiver tell me you used a translator- I don't understand most of what you are trying to say.

  • well... check out The cranberries - Zombie and Smashing Pumpkins - Disarm.

Disarm is just a faster song cause zombies are usually lethargic ;)

  • Joe satriani feat. Coldplay - If I could fly in Viva la vida!!!!

  • what the hell are these chris martins quotes?

i knew he was a shitty artist but what is it with the plagiarism and stuff? and all of the band has the the guts to admit they copy a lot of other musicians.

Coldplay, if you wanted to pay a tribute to Joe Satriani you should have covered the song!

  • They both suck.

  • I love Coldplay (: well, even if they copy they kind of change it in an original way and it comes out so good.. at least they admit it.. :) don't be so rude in music world everybody copies, they only slow it or speed it up ;/ but coldplay changes guitar to voice and it comes out good :/

  • @XXSoiFongXX you retard they slightly change the music in a feeble attempt to not get caught and to make it easier for there tiny little minds to follow

  • @xbluanchovyx i didnt read this by see my night in tunisia eg. above. also, i have one word - blues. it's a pointless argument really. they may have heavy plagiarised the chord progs and melodies, but it's still not the same song, or it would sound exactly the same. which it doesn't. it sounds ridiculously similar, but even then u have to imagine the vocals as a guitar. coldplay are not in the right, but it's not the same song.

  • and yes it is obvious the songs are extremely similar, i think most people would be able to work that out whether they studied music or not, in fact it's so obvious that i don't even think it needs to be discussed, that's why i wasn't discussing it.

  • @jeremyhillaryboobphd well i did say theyre not the same song, because they're not, in musical terms they are as i said too similar for the coldplay one to not be heavily based on it, but by no means are they exactly the same song. it's and the melody lingers on and night in tunisia, the former is a tribute to latter, and is the "same" song, but it's not the SAME song, if you get what i mean.

  • the cheesy guitar comment was what i would assume most people who listen to popular music to think of satriani, thats the thing. i'm trying to evaluate the situation from all perspectives here. sure satriani never used to care about fame (maybe) but im sure he does now or he wouldn't have sued them, and even if he doesn't he would care about money, because that's how he makes his living, otherwise he would be doing gigs for 20 bucks a head.

  • @xbluanchovyx no that's not what i'm saying at all, maybe if you read back you'll realise this. i'm saying the reason coldplay did what they did is cos they have no musical integrity because theyre not interested in musical integrity theyre interested in making money. it's just a different viewpoint altogether. the insult to music is how commercial it's become and it's alot bigger than just coldplay. its nothing compared to what has happened to hip hop and 50 cent and all the absolute shit

  • Coldplay should have done the song WITH Mr. Satriani.

  • that's good that satriani credits those composers, but he still draws most of his inspiration from classical music mixed with rock. he didn't invent scales. now i know that coldplay are way worse, the point is not to defend coldplay, the point is that music is now a business, that's the insult, not coldplay. btw i learnt that in a unit i studied about the music industry. obviously you never studied music or you would know this. or maybe u just did some shitty online course...

  • @jeremyhillaryboobphd i wasn't talking about his covers of classical music btw, i was talking about the influence on his music, improvisation included. the other thing is, expanding on the music business point, he would know that you don't have pay royalties on classical music, so it's also a good business move for him. really, instead of sueing colplday, he should've just demanded royalties. im sure it would've paid off much better.

  • @xbluanchovyx HAHA not educated? mate ive studied music at university (keyboard and guitar), compose, sell instrumentals, produce/master recordings and make my own electronic music. what do you do? the fact is that music these days is an INDUSTRY. i don't like it, but you can't ignore it, and it does matter how many ppl want songs with lyrics or not because these musicians need to eat. if you can't make that connection ur more of an idiot than i thought. it's not good, but it's how it is.
