What I think is funny, is that if all liberals in America had their way, they would eventually become conservatives. I have one example for you... The people in masses called their congressman to voice their opinion against the bailouts and the congress involving both parties passed it.

Look at running strong Green and Libertarian candidates at the local level. To build a sustainable third party system will take a long time and needs pull supporters from both major parties almost equally to be sustainable. Washington had it right in his Farewell Address. Too bad human nature got in the way.

True, this nation has always needed a third party to force real debate and coalition building and compromise. The two party system forces all politicians to pander to a few centrists and washes out most other reasonable positions that don't fit that middle ground perpetuated by mass media. Unfortunately, the rapid rise of a third party tends to bring about the collapse of an existing party or becomes a flash in the pan that hands power to those with more opposing views.
