I think Eric's argument is very naive and wrong. The internet and the digital experience provides more distraction and illusion than anything! Literally, the most happy, and aware people are those who do not use the Internet or watch TV. Its sad that so few people understand how to connect with life as it is.

With mobile computers there's no way for me to prevent anyone from tracking my activities. That's an unacceptable price to pay just to get targeted ads shoved in my face. (Privacy buttons in browsers only protect a tiny fraction of privacy) I want complete control over when and how and where my activities are private or public.

That woman is obviously from ASNE I think. Whoever brought in Eric Schmidt is a genius, it's not that easy to find a CEO who has a firm grasp of technology and capable of monetizing it. Also, he can articulate visions and handle tough, loaded questions which is pretty important for a company like Google.
