What benefits a civil union includes has varied from state to state, but they often have no included all the same benefits and protections. It's not surprising, the concept of separate but equal doesn't have a strong track record of really being "equal." Marriage was originally about procreation - between a man and woman. Allowing homosexuals to marry means you neglect procreation. Sure, adoption or whatever means you can still be a homosexual and have a kid, but it's not the original nor usual way to 'have' a child.
Gay marriage should NOT be allowed. Homosexuality is wrong in my opinion, as the saying goes; God created Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve.

It is a response to those who would portray the changing institution of marriage to be more inclusive as a bad thing. He is arguing that it is not a bad thing that gays are trying to do (as so many argue) but rather that it is a good thing that has already been done by straight people.

What benefits a civil union includes has varied from state to state, but they often have no included all the same benefits and protections. It's not surprising, the concept of separate but equal doesn't have a strong track record of really being "equal." I say the government needs to pick one or the other, either marriage or civil unions, and that's what everyone gets, gay or straight.
