can you play like this on non scalloped? i see you getting a lot of bozo questions on here, but for those of us strat players that wonder about this modification, maybe you can answer that.you're really flying here...
Hi, I played on a new Malmsteen strat the other day and I really liked it but the high E string would slip off the fretboard way too easily IMO? Does yours do this?
Malmsteens genre of music is Neo Classical, because we all know he takes on classical concepts and integrates them though his guitar thus giving us a new outlook on classical music hence the word NEO.
But Fucking AWESOME PLAYING DUDE ROCK ON MAN...YOUR GOING PLACES!!
@masternoob1314 Its in the sound of a Strat compared to a BC rich. Which sound nothing alike. Yngwie has a lot of signature gear - his own pedals, amps, guitars, its all very custom to get his sound.
Hey there, absolutly great playing ;) sounds really great I really wanna buy this, one question, I have a Roland cube 30x amplifier, do you know it ? 30 watt not a lot of should I also buy a new amp, to get a great tone ??
how is the action on the guitar? i have the YJM strat 2007 and I can't seem to get the action low while having no buzzing frets. Also, the trem throws the guitar out of tune no matter what tricks I use.
@ceyhanb I have zero tuning problems, it stays in tune really well but I have had to raise the action up to avoid fretbuzz on the top strings. Its because it has a small 70's radius.
@paulscape72 I have fretbuzzing on the A and D strings no matter the pushing with my fingers. How can I avoid it? It happens mostly on 6th and 4th/5th frets respectively.
@ceyhanb I had YJM strat 2007 also like yourself and had the same issue with fretbuzz while having low action.I sold mine when I came to conclusion that its not playable.I think many people who own one out there are facing similar issues , i say u wanna shred buy an Ibanez they have fast necks.
The action seems high because the neck is scallpped. The strings might be onthe same height from the frets as on any guitar but when you fret notes you don't touch the fretboard so it seems that it's high action although it isn't. Tha scallopped frets actually do make it harder to play, Yngwie just prefers the feel of it.
@ceyhanb at the back between the wall of the trem and the inner wall facing out from the springs put a wood barrier(glue it) make sure the wood sticks out and meets exact;y where you have the tremelo sat up prefferably flush to the body so everytime u loweer the bar it will return to its 'zero point" also get graphite saddles or string savers check the nut change it or check the strings and check the tuners also check that the trem screws are not out of height if u want take out the inner 2 ones
@ceyhanb that`s because big companies rip their customers off with these signature guitars that cost a lot but 80% of the money goes into the name/signature and 20% in quality.
@bingefeller The deep scallops make it a little deceiving to check the action. No buzzing but the action is lower than I thought...I have raised it up and it's easy to play. I think thats the trick with 2007+ malmsteens, tine to e flat, use thin strings and keep the action higher.
Great jam going on here! I enjoyed the 'Lynch" vibe along with some sprinking of the neoclassical thrown in. Great to see a Malmsteen sig Strat in action playing other styles as well!
It's not exactly that black and white. Because of the very large frets and no wood touching, it may be easier but it will take a bit of getting used to. Because you don't have any support from the fretboard, the strings will feel a lot sharper and you may start to feel it a bit. I will say that bends and vibratos become 100x easier (well not the best word but youll see once you play one)
haha... but yngwie's tone is pretty good.. ushually with 8's u loos your tone completely... like steve lukather gr8 player but shit tone.... 9's and above is good tone i think.... but also it depends on pickups and amp and the gtr.. but string have alot to do with it tho
Its true, once you play the scalloped neck for a while, you get used to it,I played a YM strat today for about an hour, loved the neck and middle pickups (bridge not so much),loved the insane bending and less friction, then played a billy corgan strat, and even with jumbo frets,it felt weird,Im like, man its hard to bend on this lol.serious though it was awesome.
jesus christ there are some stupid people in here..i scalloped my guitars my self...and i love it..you can make bends that you never could on a normal neck..plus it was harder to play i guess i dont really know because i started playing with a scalloped neck from start...but if you press the strings to hard it will sound out of tune..so unless you know what you really do..MALMSTEEN is god
between each fret, there is a depression in which the fretboard curves inward. Its hard to explain but u get the idea. yngwie's guitars usually have scalloped fretboards. i think they're supppsed to make bends easier.
Yeah i'm so sick of people say that it's cheating. I've heard a lot of scallopped players say that it actually makes playing harder... including YJM himself. I personally haven't had the opportunity to play a scallopped guitar... I'd like to, but i think it's just a preference thing.
