  • Joe, I really appeciaye your work, I saw you and Eric here in Austin. BCC on dvr right now.

  • I'm no hater, I think Joe is a genuine individual and obviously a masterly player but..his tone is a rip off of Clapton on the live Wheels of Fire..Crossroads, Spoonful etc....as well as some of that technique.....just sayin

  • eric johnson listened to this video to get his sound from JOE!

  • @DukeStarbuckle him soloing is very eric ish but not his music

  • @DukeStarBuckle youve obviously never ever ever heard joe bonamassas music then because he plays nothing like eric johnson and or eric clapton musically honestly hes more bb king gary moore this is just his noodling like any guitarist showing the masturbation skills

  • I'm sure he's a nice guy, but I've never heard a more clear rip-off of Eric in my life. Not just a minor influence, but an outright takeover.

  • lol someone must have said something at 5.24 he does not look happy

  • I would like this guy if he turned the delay off every once in awhile, jesus

  • @LukeRobinson10

if you don't like him then get the hell off this page

  • Now that's pretty bad that Joe's Official site has been taken off due to copy-rite infringement!!!

  • Very Very Eric Johnson...

  • To be honest I would like to hear the guitar... delay and distortion off for a moment would be great.

  • hes a guitar professor

  • i doubt theres 8 people in the world who dislike bonamassa.... much less people on youtube.. that cant be right

  • Great

  • Joe's from the same area as me, his dad is a cool dude, i chat with him everytime i visit his guitar shop which is usually once or twice a week lol

  • That sound!

  • eric johnson inspiration

  • @kaymo211 i lost count on how many times i watched this vid man!

  • Nylon what ? I'm french and I didn't get what he meant here...

  • @Cyberbob182 Nylon bridge saddles. They're supposed to make the high strings sound warmer. Hope this helps.

  • What fret wire is on this puppy, anyone know?

  • this guy became my guitar hero. i had never heard of him until i watched his performance at north sea jazz in 09. from then on, he inspired me to play guitar ALL the damn time.

  • what is that clapton song he is playing at 4:56?

  • @dpurcell12 That's Had To Cry Today by Blind Faith. Took me a while to remember it hahaha. One of those moments when you know it but you don't know, you know?

  • sonds like eric johnson

  • whats a top wrap????

  • @brewjake rather than stringing it through bridge and over saddles in a straight line, the strings go in as if you're stringing it wrong then wrap back over the top of the bridge and carry on with their normal journey. pause at 6:14 and you'll see...

  • He has a sorta Eric Johnson tone (atleast here). From a Les Paul no less!

  • @cfrancisco74 he does. but that's because eric johnson's tone is rad as fuck

  • Comment removed

  • the joe bonamassa studios just came out and they look great. 1300 could be a possibly buy for me

  • Gibson are suckers, what they build is overpriced and since about 10 years their quality is going down down down ....and they don't take custom orders.....( i called them ) ....i believe Joe's guitar is good but Gibson should treat ordinary customers fair too and bring back the quality they used to have..... not like Fender, if you buy a signature strat you will pay around 2000bucks and get the same stuff the artist plays.... and the LP's Slash used to play werent even made by gibson^^

  • for some reason idk why he reminds me of jason segel

  • Joe will personally smite the next person who says he sounds like Eric Johnson.

  • Sound like Eric Jhonson:)

  • Does Joe's Marshall Silver Jubilee give him Slash-tone?

  • @jimamundo Only when Slash plays it.

  • Great tone!

  • that is the best sounding les paul ive ever heard... very nice Joe!!! Congrats!!

  • how to you get that epic violin tone

  • cut down the um and uh's lol joe!

  • 3:20 "pretty good huh?"

  • I think i'm in love =)

I would have bought one of these but i'm a lefty if any of you have a chance to meet him pls tell him that he should get gibson to make a left handed model

  • It's funny he's so excited describing it. This guy's tone is amazing. Listening to him I would always swear it's a single coil but he gets such a mean bite out of a humbucker. Even with his hybrid picking.

  • Do the world the favor Joe: breed. We need more like you, guitars will evolve on their own. Have kids before it's too late.

  • how did you get from my "i wish i had a les paul aged 12 "to you exclaiming "youre not him" ?

  • omg he's fantastic

  • I feel sorry for him that he lost his les paul when he was 12.

  • @TheMagnumGuitar mmm i wish i had a les paul aged 12 to loose .i had bloody hondo aged 16, and my mam made me haggle for that .

  • @MUDSHARK111

i had an (and i still have it) fender telecaster from the 1960 or something around that time it was from my dad it it sounds like jimi on speed =P

  • @MUDSHARK111 LOL! I remember those days too bro. There were no decent midline guitars...if you couldn't afford a Gibson or a Fender, then you had to get something from the garbage heap...Hondo, Norma, Teisco, Danelectro...I've had most all of those junkpiles myself as well as some really crappy knock-offs from Sears and Montg Wards. Now that old junk seems to be collectible...why I don't know. I have really nice guitars now, and would never yearn for a Danelectro. Go figure, huh? :-)

  • If you had his guitar, you still wouldnt sound like him, because youre NOT HIM !!

  • If you had his guitar, you still wouldnt sound like him, because youre NOT HIM !!Dont feel bad, though, not too many people in the world sound that good.

  • Five people need to have their heads examined.

  • Mr. Bonamassa has to be my main influence, next to Mr. Clapton :)

  • shut the fuck up

  • When he talks about a nylon bridge on that guitar what is he talking about?

  • @bpl711 saddles, not bridge

  • It's very similar to Eric Johnson,Tone and guitar Technics.

  • His fingers have such amazing toneeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

  • Just turn on the transcribe audio beta and watch the whole video. Funniest thing ever.

  • @omfg51 Hahah, thats so good! 3:29 "not solomon to me last fall rhapsody kind of lake %um"

    wtf??

  • @omfg51 That. Was. Awesome.

  • @nickerz65

dude i hate to tell you this but (1) no his tone is not shit...maybe in your opinion.....but no its amazing and if you cant hear that or appreciate the fact he has his own tone your cleary not a seasoned guitarist (2) he has one of the most unique sounds out there and is by far one of the greatest if not the greatest blues player of our time

  • hey guys, thanks so much for your support. Please go to the Official Joe Bonamassa YouTube Channel and subscribe!

  • Why does he remind me of Eric Stoltz in Mask?. ;)

  • anyone know the name of that song he plays at 4:57?

  • @Espoacdc the song is called Had to cry today, one of his own tunes.

  • @deeney234 actually, steve winwood wrote it

  • @Espoacdc had to cry today

  • He plays like Eric Johnson, just more awesome.

  • @fantasyh Yeah. There is some similarities in the sound at that point.

  • @fantasyh He's got the speed and tone, but he has a lot more feel for it to me. Eric Johnson plays amazing, but he tends to get very predictable.

  • Cleaner with more midrange, got it.

  • @CalenCoffman He could've also said that scooped mids in a pickup go well with mahogany body guitars.

  • lol listen to that guys laugh when he says "nylon saddles."

  • i guess it couldnt be a 55 unless it had bigger holes cut for the pickups being that the first year for big humbuckers was 57. I bet i was a 57 with black switch cover and pick guard. youtube 1957 les paul goldtop.

  • what a clown he will obviously make it as a musician because he completely lacks originality and soul..and he is a total thief....

  • @konshess hahahaha youre cute

  • It's not high gain, but the sustain is great, how come!??

  • @jasonbittencourt fingers???

  • The first solo sounds like Eric Johnson.

  • What is a Top Rat

  • if his dads guitar was a 1955 goldtop wouldnt joe's guitar have soapbar pickups (p90s)

  • @sunshinesmash2442 the original owner could have put humbuckers in it. but yea youre right it wouldhave had p90s. unless he fucked up and meant a '65

  • Had no idea Joe's dad ran a guitar shop! Amazing. He's an amazing performer, too!

  • Am I the only one who hears a little Pat Travers in there?

  • God im so glad he talks about the importance of tone/volume, i cant stand all the horrible guitar tones out there these days, Joe you rock.

  • TURN THAT DELAY OFF

  • Does anyone know what pickups he has on his guitar? I'm guessing Burstbucker 1 & 2 but not sure.

  • @Oilman36 2 and 3 actually

  • @Oilman36 Burstbucker 2 and 3

  • ok... you know what?? I say more power to him that he can do the EJ style no problem he's just showing off more of what he's capable of.

  • Agreed he sound like EJ....in this clip. And yes, on his records and live he "ca" sound like EJ, however, he also sounds alot like himself. He is an incredible gifted, talented, and has worked his butt off to achieve what he has. Looking forward to hearing his new album, and for what he will create in the future.

  • w/ the exception of his cramped sounding vibrato, it sounds exactly like EJ cycling through Clapton licks. The string skipping and the violin-ish tone are definitely shadows of EJ.

  • And toward the end, his comment is way off. Its actually far easier to cut high end than it is to add it. If it aint in the guitar, you're not going to add anything... where's this nonsense coming from? I'm guessing he's nervous? Anyhow, before I get bashed, I checked out his other clips. Some great stuff.

  • sweet

  • Joe is amazing. you can definitely hear that Eric Johnson inspired him. great.

p.s. his knee look a bit strange on 3:22 ...

  • I was there. What a fun, informative evening it was for me to spend with my favorite musician. :)

  • Why would he not reproduce? Is he that ugly his guitar playing couldn't get him laid?

  • Does anyone else think that when he talks he sounds like he's going to cry before the end of the sentence...?

Sill, amazing guy. I love his playing, and tone.

  • Has joe been working out or is he on the crack diet? he is very thin now!!!!!!

  • Gibsons are way overpriced, just because of their name...but heck, id buy one. Because it's a Gibson. I have to admit.

  • He has skill and I try to be open minded musically but I would never ever pay the price for that guitar that Gibson asks when you could get a guitar the way you wan't it made with your choice of wood the color you always wanted with or without tap coils or built in sustain like you get from Carvin for half as much.Carvin also displays craftmanship seen only on a few brands and the attention to detail is impressive to say the least.

  • The first bit did sound a lot like Eric Johnson. He blows through penatonics the same EJ does. Plus the sounds was similar.

  • I swear-you shut your eyes and the first bit he played sounded just like Eric Johnson.

  • Really enjoy this guitarist!!!

    Seen him in Guitar Instructor!

  • i really like his playing. it like old blues and classic rock combined.

  • @GNRFAN243 That's why it's called Blues Rock. :)

  • @GNRFAN243 + eric johnson ;D

  • I love that guitar so much!!! He ROCKS!
