I'm no hater, I think Joe is a genuine individual and obviously a masterly player but..his tone is a rip off of Clapton on the live Wheels of Fire..Crossroads, Spoonful etc....as well as some of that technique.....just sayin
@DukeStarBuckle youve obviously never ever ever heard joe bonamassas music then because he plays nothing like eric johnson and or eric clapton musically honestly hes more bb king gary moore this is just his noodling like any guitarist showing the masturbation skills
this guy became my guitar hero. i had never heard of him until i watched his performance at north sea jazz in 09. from then on, he inspired me to play guitar ALL the damn time.
@dpurcell12 That's Had To Cry Today by Blind Faith. Took me a while to remember it hahaha. One of those moments when you know it but you don't know, you know?
@brewjake rather than stringing it through bridge and over saddles in a straight line, the strings go in as if you're stringing it wrong then wrap back over the top of the bridge and carry on with their normal journey. pause at 6:14 and you'll see...
Gibson are suckers, what they build is overpriced and since about 10 years their quality is going down down down ....and they don't take custom orders.....( i called them ) ....i believe Joe's guitar is good but Gibson should treat ordinary customers fair too and bring back the quality they used to have..... not like Fender, if you buy a signature strat you will pay around 2000bucks and get the same stuff the artist plays.... and the LP's Slash used to play werent even made by gibson^^
I would have bought one of these but i'm a lefty if any of you have a chance to meet him pls tell him that he should get gibson to make a left handed model
It's funny he's so excited describing it. This guy's tone is amazing. Listening to him I would always swear it's a single coil but he gets such a mean bite out of a humbucker. Even with his hybrid picking.
@MUDSHARK111 LOL! I remember those days too bro. There were no decent midline guitars...if you couldn't afford a Gibson or a Fender, then you had to get something from the garbage heap...Hondo, Norma, Teisco, Danelectro...I've had most all of those junkpiles myself as well as some really crappy knock-offs from Sears and Montg Wards. Now that old junk seems to be collectible...why I don't know. I have really nice guitars now, and would never yearn for a Danelectro. Go figure, huh? :-)
@buckzx12r how did you get from me " i wish i had a les paul aged 12" to the need for you to point out "youre NOT HIM" i could work that out on my own .but i still wish i had les paul aged 12.
dude i hate to tell you this but (1) no his tone is not shit...maybe in your opinion.....but no its amazing and if you cant hear that or appreciate the fact he has his own tone your cleary not a seasoned guitarist (2) he has one of the most unique sounds out there and is by far one of the greatest if not the greatest blues player of our time
i guess it couldnt be a 55 unless it had bigger holes cut for the pickups being that the first year for big humbuckers was 57. I bet i was a 57 with black switch cover and pick guard. youtube 1957 les paul goldtop.
Agreed he sound like EJ....in this clip. And yes, on his records and live he "ca" sound like EJ, however, he also sounds alot like himself. He is an incredible gifted, talented, and has worked his butt off to achieve what he has. Looking forward to hearing his new album, and for what he will create in the future.
w/ the exception of his cramped sounding vibrato, it sounds exactly like EJ cycling through Clapton licks. The string skipping and the violin-ish tone are definitely shadows of EJ.
And toward the end, his comment is way off. Its actually far easier to cut high end than it is to add it. If it aint in the guitar, you're not going to add anything... where's this nonsense coming from? I'm guessing he's nervous? Anyhow, before I get bashed, I checked out his other clips. Some great stuff.

Hmm, that's a bit embarrassing to hear such a direct copy of Eric Johnson's playing. He should really work on his own voice, or avoid Eric's altogether.
He has skill and I try to be open minded musically but I would never ever pay the price for that guitar that Gibson asks when you could get a guitar the way you wan't it made with your choice of wood the color you always wanted with or without tap coils or built in sustain like you get from Carvin for half as much.Carvin also displays craftmanship seen only on a few brands and the attention to detail is impressive to say the least.
Joe, I really appeciaye your work, I saw you and Eric here in Austin. BCC on dvr right now.
