This was a society ruled by small elite who invested in a repressive regime that kept the natives cowed and the top guys like Brezhnev lived like American rock stars.

There was no shortage of leftist intellectuals to make excuses for one Communist government after the next.

The demise of the USSR ought to be celebrated as a world holiday.
