K-38, back in 1973, it was 3:00Am, Federales, with machine guns pointed at me and my friends, waking us up from a deep sleep, asking us, what we had to give them, we gave them all we had, back-then, hang-Ten shirts and Play-boy magazines. . . .They left, fulfilled. . .
Surf Music.... I was fortunate, cause it was all around me at the time and i'm the one with the memory... before the British I.,and all that rubbish. I think about this period... it engulfs me.!
Dude, it's surf rock....there's still a lot of good music out there, but most of it is rock bottomed recycled. You-Tube is the only medium where one can enjoy the red ones from yesterday & today! COWABUNGA!
Bravo Baja. Just returned from a cruise down there outta La Paz, BCS, Mexico. Lotsa whale sightings, lotsa dolphins swimming with our ship. Thought of this song a lot while on it Cruised to Isla Espiritu Santo, Isla Cataline, and Isla San Francisco. Beautiful sights, sea lions, snorkeling, good Mexican food. Bravo the restaurant Cardon in La Paz. Go Baja!
Man.....This is instrumental was playin' when I was aboard a destroyer while on patrol off Vietnam 1965. Our division and I was a radioman and we bought a big tape recorder in japan (sony) I think, but man....We kicked it! The Ol' man put it on the ships outside loud speaker and we were jacked. Now I'm 68 yrs old and I'm glad You Tube came along. I even purchased a used SCH310 reverb. Now it brings back good memories of real bad ass tunes. Alll daaay long.
Hey, "ConseraNAZI" will you shove this here flag up yer azz also, ya dumb fuck? Then, when it has been there a good while you can pull it out and put it in front of your stinky house, YA DUMB FUCK.
One of the greatest surf instrumental's that still holds up, even today! Sir Destroy & You-Tube are where the real music is at! Alot of today's music is c-rap! So grab your girl, a six-pack of Corona's & chill out to the music, that's what it's really all about!
Found this song after 40 years, did not know the name of the instrumental , did not know the groups name , found it by accident on you tube, yes it is the best version, think you tube is great.
today i bought 2 little mexican flags from a taco stand , I took them home and wiped my ass with them and then stuck the little mexican flags on my lawn next to the sidewalk.
@conservanazi , if you hate Mexico so much why even bother to buy the flags? You just wasted your money on something that's is worthless to you, how much of a dumbfuck can you be?
that conservanazi mother fucker....hahah what an idiot....he says nobody wants tocome to MEXICO....most stupid comment ever....my country is lots more beautiful......and if you are a surf fan you are fucking ignorant cause we have lots of surf beaches ....lots better than in US.......so you better shut up your big mouth .....
This song was originally done by the Astronauts out of Bolder Colorado in 1963. As for the phase shifting, they aren't. They are using wet spring reverbs from Fender amps that incorporated them in 1961. They recorded with Jazzmaster Fender guitars, but played Jaguars and Jazzmasters when playing live. This is the original recording, done in 1963.
@conservanazi that conservanazi ass....hahah what an idiot....you say nobody wants tocome to MEXICO....most stupid comment ever....my country is lots more beautiful......and if you are a surf fan you are fucking ignorant cause we have lots of surf beaches ....better than in US.......so you better shut up your big mouth .....white garbage

I wonder if you would have the guts to say that in front of Dick Dale. You obviously haven't read any history about surf music. You obviously like defending the White race, which is great. But maybe informing yourself would be a good thing too.
Not trying to be negative but why is there a Mexican flag on this song? A band from Colorado performing an instrumental song about an American past time.
your all stupid, when this came out there where very few mexicans in the USA. I have nothing against anyone, heck I am married to a beautifull latina, but mexican had little influence on anything period!
In the 1960s, Rock and Roll music was popular in southern California, with instrumental rockers such Link Wray, and Santo and Johnny. Unlike much of the US at the time, large numbers of Mexicans lived in this part of California, and their music was no doubt heard by many aspiring. Rock instrumentation, with an aggressive jazz-influenced drummer and some Latin influences equals Surf music. In actuality, Dick Dale had essentially created the surf sound around 1957.
hahaha im not going to go to mexico cuz i wasnt born there...DUMB ASS!!
plus Dick Dale invented the surf genre!! and his parents were polish and lebanese!!
learn ur history before you talk shit!! Mexicans help in the making of surf!!! dumb little kids dont know shit.....go listen to my chemical romance or something or go to KKK meeting with youre parents later on tonight to see burning crosses...loser...
The Astronauts were an unheralded group from Colorado. I really liked a number of their songs, including "Hot Doggin'" (1963), "Kuk" (the flip side of "Baja in 1963) and "Main Street" (1966).
Just like ME! unheralded, Now "I" live in Boulder County, I MISS THE SURF! I am from Ocean Beach O.B (San Diego) and had a vacation home in Cantamar (K-38) "Baja" has followed me here somewhat also, yet I am Copacetic with the Culture, as it's way Cool to eat a Carne Asada Taco and SUCK DOWN MANY BOHEMIA BEERS in the driven Snow!
That's not what I'm talking about. I know what reverb (etc) is, and that's not the issue. I have been a collector of surf music since the genre was invented. I'm also an audio technician with 40 yrs experience. I'm telling you the intro is out of phase. It is NOT that way on the LP. I have two copies of it, and the CD also. This recording is flawed, wherever it came from.
FYI- Echo was not used much in the genre. reverb was, of course.
I suspect the Mexican flag is in there 'cuz the Baja stretches down into Mexico, IIRC.
