I am a big fan of the Virginia and Truckee Railroad and a big critic of the politicians doing the Reconstruction project.
They try to compare the $70 million V&T re-con to the Durango and Silverton. The D&S has this beautiful scenery, the V&T has Nevada desert, industrial mound house, junk yards, racetracks and brothels. The Carson River canyon where they want another $30 million to run through will never come close to this scenery.
Looks like a great train trip and I'd love to try it but I do wonder ?? With the high country wilderness areas this thing passes through and you can see it carries alot of people.... I wonder who overseas the safety of the line meaning does some authority go out and check the trackage make sure geology does not play a factor in safety? I just wonder if the state or someone goes out and checks this thing out from time to time ? High up you gotta think one loose track bolt and it's over !

The train operator is responsible There is no way of knowing if h is doing that job well.

I have been on the train twice and they have a little one man engine in front of the train and one behind on the trips I have been on.
