It's hard for me to try to not fit in with everyone else -- everytime I'm at home or out with my family and I'm being different my sisters would tell me I'm and embarassment to the family and my parents are probably thinking I'm on drugs.
Wow Jennifer this is such a great story/message! Thank you so much for sharing I'm a little teary eyed right now haha. But you are so dead on. Wishing you & Trixie the best! :)
Being different never been an issue for me, but then again I broke down 9 years ago as an IT specialist doing 23 different tasks at once, doing 5-8 peoples jobs and got a boss that couldn't let me do it my way and be late 1-5 minutes to a meeting or fix things with that heavy load like I did.
2 years ago neurospecialists diagnosed me with ADD after suspecting it might be a mild variant of Aspergers. And now I fianly understand why I am and been the whole life.
Love the video and think that it is really wonderful. Especially the way you talk about being different instead of being like everyone else. You do not have to be normal in this life. In fact there is not such thing are normal. You need to find your way and make it happen for you. Thank you very much.
Your message hit home with me since I once tried so hard to be like everyone else...or like they thought I should be! When I was diagnosed with ADD, I was better able to understand and accept my differences and focus on my strengths.
Also, I have always told my Mom that I'm just "weird" in response to my off-the-wall comments or my different way of seeing things. She has always corrected me by saying that I'm "not weird but unique." Now I embrace and love being UNIQUE.
How great to see you! It's so funny that you chose this topic...
I've been thinking a lot lately about the "psychology of being different" - how it affects us in so many ways and how being different is assumed to be "not as good" or "not good enough."
For example, when people say ADD "symptoms" instead of "traits" - as if ADD was a disease. Love the way you are bringing attention to this!
Thanks so much for doing this. You are just about the only ADD expert who not only seems to know what they're talking about but also addresses ADULTS with ADD. I like your take on how we should perceive ADD as well.
Oh yeah, thanks for being a loving friend to Trixie!
Thanks for doing the videos; I sure hope you keep putting more up.
As an adult with ADD, I'm definitely looking to find ways to feel comfortable in my own skin. And even then, I am trying to figure out what is going to work for me. I've experienced the lack of success and now figure that I can be successful, but that I may have to take a different path than others.
