@BlaKSoKsNPinKStripeS It's what we call "scratch tracks" it's just an acoustic version of the song that was probably used so John Alagia (producer of RFS) could get a feel for the song and prepare to record it. It's not an album.
@diegofernandin Always go for the Martin. Kike yblawl83 said, they can be a bit pricy but they will last forever (sound gets better as guitar ages) and they are hands down the highest quality guitars on the market. Legendary tone, look, feel, sound is amazing and they all have lifetime warranties.

@diegofernandin He plays Martins but theres a ton of great acoustics out there. Personally, I'm a fan of Gibsons, and taylors are also awesome (jason mraz plays a taylor)
@diegofernandin Right, he has an OMJM signature which is the best semi for plucking and doing whatever JM does with his guitar. Mraz uses a Taylor612ce. But he uses classicals more. :)
You know what would be cool? If I met John Mayer for my birthday and he played me this song,(: I don't know why I just love this song soooo much! And my birthday is coming up! (:
This song reminds me of my grandma who passed away in 1998...her name was Lydia. It also reminds me of a verse in the Bible Matthew 5:14-15 because of the word city & the fact I hid I was a John Mayer fan for years...music greed. I have since repented. I ♥ this song... good music should be shared... and bought legally.
I love this, it would be great if we could get this chord structure nailed. It certainly is different from the version played electrically! You're right ybial83 I do like this one!
Absolutely genious. Fuck all you wankers being sour about John. I know he will be the guitar player of the future that will inspire generations of attic players to come, nuff said.
@mossel1977 - Wait a minute...I have NEVER seen or heard anyone slag off John Mayer's music. What are you talking about?
Just like I've never heard of anyone putting down the Beatles. People may not be BIG John Mayer or BIG Beatles fans...but their music is, quite, universally interpreted by most humans...to be pleasant.
Looped, demo, live, taped...who cares??? Doesn't matter because it sounds excellent! Always wondered if an unplugged version of this existed, and now I know. Thanks a lot for posting this!
John Mayer does not use loops this is a demo, not live, so it has to be a muti track recording, but that doesn't mean that you have to call people fucktards haha...
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
ohh geez. some people just dont know what a loop is. FACT: that is not a loop. its two separate guitar tracks that are layered. damn i hate fuctards. now if that first guitar track repeated like two times atleast, then you could call it a loop cause guess what?? that one track played more than once during the song. but that didnt happen here did it?? ha ohhh well you either get it or you dont. its not for everyone i suppose :/
This isn't looped. It's a studio recording you idiots. He sings and plays guitar for the first recording then goes back over it and layers with a recording of his guitar again. It's not rocket science.
@mattern First it's not looped. Second it's not live. You are looking for the word "layer" I think. Looped would him playing the verse and chorus once, then using those recordings throughout the song. He simply played the whole song once, then went back and added another layer to the first recording.
You would be right if this wasnt live. What i meant was live looping. The musician would record a certain chord movements (usually with an effect box that comes with this feature) and play it back when he needs that chord progression to add another layer of melody or whatever he/she wants to layer it with Usually used for bands that lacks another rhythm player. Either way, iam not saying u are wrong. =)
Hmm, what turned me to John Mayer was his vocals, and ya I think he somewhat is some sort of inspiration . The way he plays the guitar makes me wanna go out right now and pick one up and learn to play LOL. His voice is just spectacular and I wish I payed more attention to him earlier. I've heard his song on the radio every now and then but I decided to download his RFS album and it was great!
wonderful!! and yeah he is one of the main resons why I play guitar. when you get most of his studio stuff listened to try listening to his live stuff. it's...amazing....well a whole new level of amazing.
In every version I love the section when he says... "friday night, we've been drinking. 2AM i swear I might propose" it's just such a nice song <3 I'm a new fan of John Great voice great talent.
I love John Mayer like I love sleep, but I just never seem to get in to city love. I can't explain it. I try and try and try, but I just don't feel it.
I'm with jbiawl83 on this one, the feel is all Mayer. I also want to add thanks for these gems, ybialw83. Damn this recording proves he did in fact really practice to get his unique singing voice.
If you see the Transition "jam" going into Neon, tomalvarez4 he totally bends strings on his acoustic guitar. It like saying he never uses a knife to cut things up.
@Ybiawl83 what album is this in? I don't remember Room For Squares having an acoustic version :/

I'm a huge fan of john, but he could have done better on the chorus , maby if he hit the high E it would sound a little better, just my opinion
MrAkoustic 8 months ago
What kind of acoustic guitar does he usually play?
I'm seriously thinking about buying an acoustic-electric but have no idea about brands/makes??
Any suggestions will be well appreciatted.
What about the one that Jason Mraz plays?, is it the same?
Thanks!!

@diegofernandin he usually plays Martins, and he has a custom one called the OMJM. theyre a bit pricey, but it's worth it for the sound.
