I first heard this through my crappy laptop speakers and thought it was a cool track. On plugging in my headphones I was quite disappointed when I heard the bass. The track has a much better feel without the walking bassline - which I never thought I'd hear myself say because I love funk!
Sadly, this version was recorded just weeks before his death on February 9, 1976 (at age 67). Great edition of the song, though. Thank you, and rest in peace, Mr. Faith.
@MrJacMac1986 Yup. Girls in the 60's, 70's & 80's were so much hotter... no ugly tattoos or body piercings. Today's women look like circus freaks. But to each their own I reckon.
Well, I think this is very well-layered and produced, and perfect for its time period. It's very anachronistic, though. It's very much like something you'd except to hear as a theme for the 9 o'clock show following The Love Boat! I like the idea, though, that a piece like this can be arranged for every era. That makes it a true classic.
This was also the theme tune of RNK (Richard Nankivell) on BFBS (British Forces Broadcasting Service) in Germany....who remembers that huh??? Hello Nankers old horse...
I've known for years that Percy Faith recorded the newer version of Theme From A Summer Place in '76, but this is the first time I've ever heard it. It sounds pretty good. Ironically, the original came on my radio just before I wrote this. I also liked looking at all these lovely ladies in the video. And the dog is cute!
Thank you for excellent quality! I love Percy Faith's "Theme From A Summer Place" from 1960 and I love this disco version "Summer Place'76 from him too! Simply great!!!
@dairymairy666 As well as the cancer that killed him the alzheimer's disease must have been kicking in by then before his death to come up with such tosh. Its not as if this is going to be remembered like the original, more like somebody trying to keep up with the times when in fact he should have hung up his orchestration techniques. Its a shame because this really is a piss poor version of such a beautiful melody. Some people don't know where to stop, maybe he had a few bills to pay ??
Well, maybe no tatoos that we can see !!!! Ha ha.........Still though, some pretty lovely ladies..........at 1:35, I'm in love with the brunette, second from the left.....she just looks happy and having a good time....I wonder when and where that photo was taken?
What a fucking shit arrangement, perfect example of how to murder a brilliant tune. Poor Percy Faith must be rolling in his grave. Nice chicks that need a good shagging though in the video
On the other hand - maybe I was being "polite" about this disco version - I like disco but I really love the old easy listening light "classical" of the original Percy Faith Theme from a Summer Place...
Man, can you believe it...????? The Disco years and these photos of beautiful women with tanned thighs and unbound hair...Could life have been any better than this? Naw, man, I was living in Tampa during that time and all I can say is, ooh, la-la. Where the hell did all the years go along with my eyesight and hair !!!!!! I still love the disco girls though...
@ericjwest4 I guess you were young in the 70s. That decade had so many problems: Nixon resignation, high inflation, oil crisis, Jimmy Carter presidency, yuck!
Some people will use sex to sell anything.I don't know where your mind is but A Summer Place is not just chicks at the beach. I liked the video if it was used for MTV's spring break special not an American classic tune. Grow up.
A Summer Place wasn't 'chicks at the beach' at all.
In fact, it was a pretty lousy movie. The only reason it was well known, DECADES AGO, was because it touched upon the subject of pregnancy out of wedlock.
The original sounds much much better.

This version of the song was released in 1976. That's why it sounds a bit anachronistic.

Sexy yet tasteful bikinis! The beautiful ladies sans (without) tatoos (really a man's deal at the risk of sounding sexist).
