I knew it! I knew this scene was not in my head. I watched it recently and noticed this was missing from what I saw at the movies and also there was a scene at the end...I would almost swear where the dad complains someone messed up the equalizer on his stereo system...After Lisa fixed the trashed house. ( You know BFD about the stereo...lol) Thank you
Welcome to 'Edited for Television'. An irritating aspect so as to allow better playability on TV. Adding deleted scenes to fill the time slot or else it'd be 'bout 10 mins long. I avoid watching beloved films on regular broadcast because of that. I have no problem with the odd scenes being as extras on a DVD release. Its what makes DVD great.
Thanks for posting this. Only people like me who only ever watched this movie on tv would know there are deleted scenes on the dvd. BTW, who is this troll, DVFDrinkOrDie??? I would recommend you delete every single one of his comments the second the crop up. Either the guy is living in his own dreamworld, or he's just messing with people. Either way, it's not amusing and nothing but a waste of time for people who want to know the facts.
i saw this movie several times from the day it hit the theaters when i was a teenager, and i'm here to say that this scene WAS in the original... i remember this like it was frigging yesterday... you mean they cut it out??.... blasphemy!!!!
@MGMLioness Interesting, this scene was in the original 1985 cinema release? What about the scene with Gary's friends who arrive at the party wearing Devo helmets, ws that included too or is it TV only bonus footage?
kinda like goonies, there is a scene where the octopus comes out, i remember seeing that on television, i do remember seeing this on tv too. so yah its real
@DVFDrinkOrDie Your wrong bro this was the original. Your just mad cause you never saw the original. So keep your mouth shut, and show some fuckin respect to the guy who posted this.
i have the vhs tape (bought it in 92 or 93) and have never seen this scene before...
sometimes they show alternate scenes on the TV version of the movie that never make it to VHS/DVD (The Money Pit and Naked Gun are two other 80s movies I've seen them do this with). I have no idea why though.
They used to show this beginning when it was aired on TV sometimes. I don't know why they didn't include it on the DVD version. I always thought that part where Gary shoves the stack of frozen pizzas in the microwave was hilarious!
its amazing how people just write some shit here without using their brain ^^ the 2 main actors are clearly to see so this can only be from this movie ^^ and since this is NOT on the DVD I rather believe mxation than supposing he invited the 2 actors to create this extra scene :DD
I think it real. It show you that they share common interests It showed they they are real tight buds. . The scene also shows they are pretty smart. It gave depth to Gary, and Wyatt. They, as actors made the scene look authentic, and fluid. Good scenes get edited out all the time..
@cw505 seems Universal has at least two versions of this film ,there is a cable tv broadcast version and the original version shown in theaters.. there is different footage ,and differnt music ? Why Universal did 2 edits ? go figure?
in the context of video, and certainly in the context of "HD" analogue is dead.... but it is still superior for audio and will be untill we get to a new convention for CD's that reflects a greater bit depth and sampling rate.. though, by the time that is done.. CDs will probably be dead...
can't believe i'm seeing this! this was in the edited tv version. the dvd version is bitch ass! it doesn't have any of these deleted scenes. pissed me off!
I don't know if they still do it, but years ago they would actually shoot several scenes made just for TV. Often times they would re-shoot a scene that had some changes that would allow it to be shown on TV. A perfect example is Airplane 2, there a a number of scenes that were not in the video or theatrical release but are shown in the TV edit.
i luv this movie and wow, i can't recall ever seein this version cause the one i have starts at the shaving cream part after they get there pants pulled down at school i think. no biggie, i personally think this intro was moving too slow.
Why was that cut? It added good story line,, man I'm kinda pissed I just saw this cause I still watch the dvd all the time. Best line of the movie "you two turds couldn't get laid in a morgue". ha ha ha
If you bought your VHS tape of "Weird Science" look on the back and see if it says, "Home Video Version" anywhere. If it does, then that means that there is another version with this beginning somewhere out there.
Universal made the original Frankenstein. They should have left this in as all of us Gen X and baby boomers grew up watching the classic horror films on FREE TV. And it does help explain Kelly LeBrock's bad 80's hair in the film. Then again, who was looking at her hair.....
OMFG! I had to call my grandmother in the middle of the night and explain my childhood after I saw Dawn of the Dead." DotD is a scary ass movie, but that's just low self respect.
very simple reason for why that sometimes happens. Universal has the rights to the movie but they may not have the rights to the music to be allowed to release it on DVD. it happened with Married With Children from season 3 on. FOX lost the right to use the original theme song so they had to replace it with something they made themselves.
I remember this!...wow i recognized it right away when gary grabs all the food from the frig and the dawn of the dead dialogue...thanks for posting this.
this ones way better than the other one. sets up characters better. "gary's weird family relatioship" and "she had electric hair" tell me kelly lebrock didnt look a little electrified?
maybe this clip was removed from the film due to a copyright infringement... lol

what channel was it on when they aired that version?
Urielbenavides 1 year ago
I actually would assume assume this was left out because they couldn't get the rights to the movie again when they rereleased this on DVD.
It's like Married with Children, and not being able to get the license to the theme song.

I like the bit when they're in the pink Chevy discussing Gary's reasons for wanting call Kelly LeBrock's character Lisa.
Lisa: "Why Lisa?"
Wyatt: "He used to hang out with a girl named Lisa?"
Lisa: "Oh yeah? Old girlfriend?"
Wyatt: "She kicked him in the nuts."
Gary: "Will you shut up?!"
Wyatt: "Look, Gary, it wasn't your fault. All you said was 'hello' to her."
Gary: "Wyatt, just shut up!"
