  • Plz can u explain how u made it and the material u use it and a schematic for it

  • Very nice. Congratulations.

  • How did you get the spark plug to spark constantly ??

  • Neat turn out! I have a turbo @ batgoldfly

re doing some combustion components and will do a run up on you tube later this year.

looks like you took the pains to use turbo charger parts in your own design rather than just adding on a burner section to a junk yard auto turbo as others do.

  • I was very impressed with this video. Indeed very interesting and successful project. Indeed cought my interest 110% how to build one of these. I wanted to ask - what kind of fuel does he needs? How exactly you calculated thrust-to-weight ratio, so you could build platform for it with enough wieght so your engine would stay in place instead of firing like a rocket? Where did you get info about MAX temps (i.e. exhaust)? How to calculate them? And last - how much your project cost to you?

  • Where did you get the inspiration to build this?

I want to build a jet engine myself, but whats your suggestion on where to start?

Do you know if theres anywhere to get blueprints for this? :)

    great vid!!

  • what kind of combustor did u use?....multican?...or anular?...and di u replaced the metal used for the turbine/...or u just used the original?

  • Very nice! Big stuff!! what about installing a after burner??

  • hey were did u get the blueprints for this???

  • GOD I want to make one of that.......please teach me how

  • that is a pretty big turbo u got there

  • could you tell me what the material of the nozzle?? I hope your answer!!!!!!!!!

  • @Narutz09 Hi, the nozzle is made fron high grade stainless steel. 1mm wall thickness 90mm diameter.

  • Hi there.

What motor are you using to start the engine?

    Thanks

  • @biggiginthesky Hi. It is a 140w old kitchen blender that I modified.

  • САМОВАР!

  • are you using an old stick blender to start it?

  • Hello,,, How much trust this machine is able to produce..tks.

  • Do you have a thrust number? Bolt it to a creeper, tether it to the garage wall with a fish scale in line. Great build!

  • are you using an axial flow turbine? if not, how did you addapted the anular combustor to work with a centrifugal turbine?

  • Hi carlos, thanks, no I am using a centrifugal turbine that came off the turbo. First you swirl the hot air in the same direction as the shaft's rotation and then bend it towards the shaft and the second set of nozel guide vanes are set at the same angle that was used in the turbo are swirling the air towards the turbine. In some instances with a verry compact engine this can be done simultanuesly. The JPX and Sophia modelRC engine had the same setup.

  • I know that engine took some time to fab up about how long was the build time on that? and how light is it , nice turbo keep up the great work!!!

  • This is extremely dangerous.

  • I really like he way you fabbed this one up.

very sleek and compact, I applauded when I saw it.

    Great work!

  • Very nice what vehicle did you take the parts from what engine? What did you do for reference reading? Thanks

  • Hi, thanks, the rotor came from a old cummins turbocharger, the inducer is 90mm. I use a anular combustor and the turbine is from the same turbo. I dont know what engine it came from, it must have been a big diesel like a mine truck or simmilar. Reading - Kurt Schrecling's and Thomas Kamps books on model turbine engines and every other book and internet site I could find on gas turbine and especialy combustor designs.

  • Man! Does it generate enough thrust for propultion or anything?

  • Yes, about 40 Kg's. Didn't do that in this clip though.

  • Awe bummer, I was really hoping to see a jet pack soon...

  • Why gas do you run on for your jet engine?? Or do you use propane. If so, how?? My boyfriend is currently building his own jet engine and I'm trying to help him figure it out. I would deeply appreciate your help. Thank you!

  • what a sweetheart

  • Now build a turbo-fan engine with 20,000pounds of thrust : D

  • what is that u used to measure the rpm?

I made one but blew a oil seal, and egt is like 560-600, but If i turn fuel pressure LPG up, saying 2psi is idle, and highest i can go is 15 psi

the thing does flame out, i guess it almost stops spinning and the flame blows out past the turbine side, but i think its cuase the bearing is shot and i don't use oil, so the sound waves get just right to throw the balance off and it drags down and cuases it to stop, I will post a video of it to show it.

  • how do u expect to run it with out oil without tearing it up?

  • @carlosr428 Foil bearing.

  • very impressive and from scratch too!

  • you made this!!!!.... I love you!!!

  • thats look sooo cool. ramp it up!!!!

  • Thats a nice backyard jet, seems to be well in control without overspeed, lovely..

  • Dangerous homemade turbines

When an amateur overspeeds those turbos, parts can fly apart uncaged and or uncontained.

Turbine manufacturers spend loads of money on designing systems to contain rotor parts, so that the nearby human does not end up dead over a catastrophic failure.

    when overspeed

  • I made a jet engine once, based on what i knew, and it actually worked out pretty well. I took an ordinary electric motor and added a propellar. Then i added a bottle with a hole on the side and one at the top, and sprayed in gas on the side constantly. When i lit it, it burned for 10 seconds with lots of thrusting power. And after those ten seconds, it blew up. And the whole shit flew apart, cus the plastic was too hot, and melted.

  • i'd like to put it my bike

  • Hey fellow gas turbine builder. Check mine out.

  • Magnificent. it really looks like a jet engine, too! now rev it up!

  • One question, did you start it with a hand blender? If so, that's awesome

  • Yep, That is a old 160W handheld kitchen blender that I modified. It spins the engine to 5000 rpm and after ignition she selfsustains at 5300rpm.

  • Nice, now throw an afterburner on it ;)

  • do you have any websites that you used to fuel your design that you could send my way. I'd really love to do some research on the homemade annular combustor

  • throw in on a push bike ?

  • G'day mate

Thats a really nice looking turbine you made there. Do you have any plans/info for your combustor design you'd be willing to share?

PS You should mount it on the back of a Kart and set fire to all the hoons here in surfers :)

  • i designed mine just so one day i could put it on a cart, cant wait

  • Interesting, I've wanted to build an anular-can combustor around a turbocharger shaft/wheel assembly for some time. Good stuff.

  • G-Day B. Was a good project to undertake and verry interesting, is not complete but looks verry prommising.

  • Hi AN3jets,

nice engine did you make it from st/vt-50 turbo? Live at Logan Village area and have been busy doing the same, currently building freepowered go kart, should meet

  • Hi Jetturbine2005

Thanks, I have very limmited info about the turbo, It was a very old one in a workshop and I took it because it was big and had lot of parts that could be used again.

  • Hi AN3jets,

nice gas turbine you got there do have any pics of you build up of this engine? Also where abouts are you in Aus?

  • Hi mfpitci

I am in the Gold Coast, have lots of pics. Engine project took about 2 years and I want to build an engine eventualy that is in the 300 Kg's thrust class.
