Hey man, I'd love you forever if you help me out.... I'm building one, but hitting the pvc pipes just sounds like hitting hard plastic... how do you get that "drum"-y sound? Is there like a rubber membrane reed on it or something?

@badsalad313 Hey, yep you guessed right :).

I cut a hole about 7 inches by 2.5 inches in the side of the tube, then stretched a sheet of rubber about 2mm think over it as tight as I could. It was all held in place with duct tape, then duct tape went over the top too.

@Frogstopper Awesome, thanks a lot! I temporarily just duct taped a rolled-up bunch of a couple sheets of poster board sticking out of one of the tubes, but I think I'll definitely try and upgrade it to what you have going :)

@krith I know this was a year ago so excuse me if you've already gotten an answer. I did this yesterday to an opinion I REALLY meant to put a thumbs up to. To my knowledge you can't undo it but what I do and I see others do is type them a note like I'm doing now and tell them what happened. I've received a couple and I thought it was very mature and an honest thing to do. Took the sting out. :) Songs

Sorry but what do you all actually mean by fake? Fake as in I'm not actually playing it or fake as in it's filmed separately and then stuck together with video editing?

The sound and video is actually footage of me playing the Drumbone. I had to edit and cut it up as there was no one around to move the sliders on the Drumbone to give the different notes.

well, I don't think it's fake...(since I've seen your duet =D) but the reason people could think so if because you've used quite a slow/bad camera =P you can't actually see what your hands are doing... "they might as well hit the cones in a random (but fast) rhythm... we won't see the difference anyway"

you should ask your brother to hold them =P

would be much cooler without the editing ;)
