There are some Marines in the MARSOC that have training that goes beyond that of the Rangers. I doubt those were the Marines you dealt with though if they didn't impress you as much as the Rangers.

I remember years ago the Legion invited other `elite` units to try their assault course. The US Marines were a fucking embarrassment to themselves and the US. You could have taken old people from an old folks home that would have done better.

Most of the army is harsh, but the foreign legion is an elite corp, therefore it's particularly harsh. And those chaps all become french after a few years of service, which is perfectly legitimate since they risk their lives for France.

In Bosnia the SAS had a supporting role to the regular British army, ask any Bosnian muslim, Croat or Serb and they will tell you how effective the British forces were in maintaining order and bringing an end to the war, in the first gulf war the SAS units and not the US navy seals were on the ground securing intel on Iraqi targets in Kuwait which were relayed to the US command. The second Iraq war and Afganistan wars are very much still an ongoing, so we wait and see!

Secondly the only reason the FFL has had some degree of success in the recent past (80s and 90s) was the inlux of former SAS ops that were formerly based in N.Ireland. Tell me how effective where they during the indo-China wars, werent they the ones that got slaughtered by the Vietcong before the Americans got involved? So what they manage to boss around a few African savages that use spears instead of heavy weaponry? In Bosnia the SAS had a supporting role to the regular British army, ask any Bosnian muslim, Croat or Serb and they will tell you how effective the British forces were in maintaining order and bringing an end to the war, in the first gulf war the SAS units and not the US navy seals were on the ground securing intel on Iraqi targets in Kuwait which were relayed to the US command. The second Iraq war and Afganistan wars are very much still an ongoing, so we wait and see!

@hardkicka my friend was ex commander of ground forces who was transfered from Slavonian front to Bosnian as he sayed NATO and British are mostly failed because they didnt successful stop the Serbians to take by force civilians wich was transpored to field called Srebrenica.And this is most ironic thing you will heard now
Nato and British was present at Srebrenica only thing why did they fail is that they didnt know how to react

@LighterBen yeah you are right they both (the US and the French) failed and they both have lousy "special forces" that are way too over hyped, the British SAS have an impeccable record of successful operatons going as far back as the 2nd world war in North Africa. They were outnumbered and out gunned by Argentine forces whom they managed to push back and eventually win in the falklands war.

@ellebal1111 UM..no.the USA fought in Cambodia it was called the Cambodian Incursion which was a 3 way fight between two commie groups and the USA, my father was in that Operation. and I have also taken a class in Indo-China history I know what i'm talking about.
also McNamara wasn't in office when Cambodia happened.
the USA or it's allies never Invaded North Vietnam.
the only thing that Happened to the North was Airstrikes. and a few Spec ops raids.

@ellebal1111 um..how dumb are you? The USA sent troops into Cambodia. and yes the USA did a much better job then the French in Vietnam. The problem with the French was they lacked manpower in Vietnam where as the USA did not. the Commies never took South Vietnam while the USA was there.
the USA was also there for humanitarian reasons too. the Commies had a habit of killing civs who didn't like their cause.
My father watched 5,000 Cambodian Refugees get mortared.

@Dogmeat1950 We had our ass kicked in Vietnam, be North or South...they abandoned the South and their Vietnamese allies, departing in haste and abandoning huge quantity of equipment. We did very little fighting in the South because we ran away!!. For you to focus on what atrocities the "commies" did is typically American , we did our fair share of atrocities, killing civilians, bombing villages, using defoliant, millions of mines Vietnamese / Cambodians still being victimized today.

If i remember how things really happened it was mainly regular British Army with very little involvement of the Special Forces (Royal marines and SAS) that helped bring peace and save thousands of Croat and muslim lifes...ask any Bosnian Muslim that lived in Herzegovina during that period and they have nothing but praise for British troops of all Nato forces involved.

@Lighttown1913 for your info even the French Parachute regiment owes its origins to the SAS (ha!). Secondly the only reason the FFL has had some degree of success in the recent past (80s and 90s) was the inlux of former SAS ops that were formerly based in N.Ireland. SAS is not about looking good or wearing some niffy uniform, or singing fag songs..half of SAS soldiers are not even known by their family which is why there arent SAS documentaries, their mission is simple search and destroy.

@opawari i join to say it is not necessary to know the language in order to join the legion. but like superfantastic36 says it helps and raises odds that he'll be enlisted. i got this information from internet sources. and sorry about your son, my personal opinion that the legion wouldn't replace serving in the armed forces of your own country, meaning the Royal Marines! i guess youare from Britain? i myself have intentions to join the legion, but yet i am from ukraine
