One of my favorite songs off this album. This should have got time on the radio. I love the progression of this song and how it builds towards the end. Awesome.
Who needs Nirvana...one of the most overrated bands of all time. I HATE grunge but Live sure is pretty damn talented for me to make them the one exception.
@RonBurg92 ummmm...really? Look up the video for "Plateau" from the MTV Unplugged album. That entire concert is one of the most incredible pieces of live music ever recorded.
@RonBurg92 LOL, grunge was the resurgence of rock n roll being about the music instead of the money, appeal, and women. Even though I will give women a pass in that category. Grunge was the 2nd best point in rock n roll next to the turn that the Beatles and The Velvet Underground took it.
@RonBurg92 I actually LIKE nirvana but they were NO musical geniuses. From a technical standpoint they were a good garage band. The good thing about Nirvana was that their music was breakthrough. Not that it was Good. At least from a musical standpoint.
But that's the great thing about music.. it doesn't have to be technically good to be Good. I love listening to Nirvana and i can deal with the fact that they're not genius.
This is one of their best songs and should have received some serious airplay. And you wonder why they say rock is dead when so called rock stations do not play this amazing music! It pisses me off!!!!
@CALTSM They blow suicide boy outta the water, Hell Foo Fighters are better than whiny suicide boy! No sympathy for idiots who set bad examples. Screw Nirvana , worse band ever signed.
@CALTSM the thing is.. they were BETTER (from a musical standpoint) than Nirvana. Both are wonderful to listen to and i agree.. i wonder why they never became huge. They were right in heat of the sound of the time. In canada they got pretty big.. but elsewhere apparently not so much..
this is one of the most underrated bands of all time i think. not many people know it beyond what they play on the radio and even fewer know them at all. i wish all musicians could put meaning into their music, put their heart and soul behind it, like it means something and theyre not just in it to make a buck. like its supposed to be......
"Whoa!!!!" Shanah-la-na-la-na. DANGEROUS I used to listen to this song to help me go to sleep. Such a good cd, I wish they would come back to us, Live.
This song is about the Tibetan Book of the Dead (TBD), which is the Buddhist doctrine that requires that it be read aloud in the presence of the dying and the recently deceased in order to obtain final liberation and to avert the mind's descent back into Samsara (Hell).
well since you guys talkin about meanings n stuff... 'throwing copper' comes from those guys actually throwing copper. a ball bearing cannon, (a.k.a. a B.B. gun)... seen these guys in concert, they played this one and it was freakin awesome.
@losipoop Actually, given the album's fixation on death (this song, Lightning Crashes, the Dam at Otter Creek, etc) I would hazard a guess that 'throwing copper' is more a reference to myths of paying Charon, the ferryman to the underworld of greek mythos.
The Outsider always sees, "too deep and too much." And like the lyrics say, do it long enough and you'll know longer need a book. That's when "the brain is dead and the mind has taken over." To hell with killing the television. Kill your concepts.
the story behind this song is the end of Aldous Huxley's life... where he had his wife sitting by his death bed side reading the Tibetan Book of the Dead to him as he went out "dressed in blue" while under the influence of LSD.
