i dig your video, fits really well with the song, and what a song it is. if you were to judge a tune by who covers it, this one is way up there. elvis could have written this in 1942 and for sure all the greats would have lined up for it. elvis knows the craft of songwriting quite well, i think he gets overlooked and underestimated in that area, this song as well as many others he has written was no lucky accident. fantastic chord progression, melody and lyric. as good as it gets
Elvis....find me... Suzanne... aka Shoregirlie... laffin cuz i know u can't find me... but I'm just diggin your music... and thinkin there's a part of me that's true to you...and will never see you babe.... just know I love u... out here.. on my own.....
@siamesebailey22 i would say it's quite like elvis in that he has such a wide palette you never know what he will do next, but i admit i was still suprised when this one came out. tremendous song, not a thing out of place.
Here's the facts from Wikipedia, if you believe them:
"Almost Blue" is a song by Elvis Costello (Declan Patrick MacManus) that appears on his 1982 album Imperial Bedroom.[1]
"Almost Blue" was also performed by Everything but the Girl ("Like the Deserts Miss the Rain", 2003), Diana Krall ("The Girl in the Other Room", 2004), ... Chet Baker performed the song, with selected alternative lyrics, on his album Let's Get Lost (also known as Bread, Butter and Champagne) from 1992.
Elvis Costello is a creative genius in both his song-writing and his music. His body of work is of amazing quality, and I am often reminded of this when I play his songs. Though he is highly respected, I do not think he's received his just recognition, partially because of his looks, partially because of his name (people think of E Presley) and partially because he probably doesn't want mass appeal. In any case, I love much of his music and have missed the chance to see him live twice!
I had to pay extra to get this on an album, since it was an "Import" What a joke.

Sorry about my previous comment, mentioning Baker. I mistakenly posted it here. Still a wonderful soundtrack for the unique Audrey Hepburn.

Except...he didn't write this one. It's Chet Baker's song, I think.
