I need help.

A few days ago I could record with Fraps in 30fps or 60fps without any lag and now it will only record at around 15-20fps, it's so annoying. How to fix this? How to make it lag less?

I use a external HDD for my files and Fraps is installed on my external HDD too.

Wooooow man.... I've recorded about three parts (wich is about 35 minutes) of an Amnesia Walkthrough, and I ran out of memory after the third part. What I did was I cleaned up some space on my computer and now it's lagging like shit even though it was working perfectly before... any ideas? IT'S SO ANNOYING! I was recording in a steady 50-60fps and now it's down at 5-10 -.-

@Godisen007 haha yea man, just keep in mind. Fraps is capturing everything on your computer at full resolution HD. These files are HUGE, and there is nothing you can do about that, so what i suggest is that you do like most ppl and get an external hard drive and everytime you record have all the footage sent straight to that instead of the hard drive in your comp. This will keep your computer running nice and smooth and you wont run out of space.

Ive got an i5@3.6 Ghz, a gtx460 and 4gb of ram.

I can run bc2 at 60 fps, the witcher at 40, mw2/bo at around 100 but when I start recording everygame starts to drop to around 30. It gets kinda unplayable, how?

@TheEquilium you might want to look up on how to fix that elsewhere because im almost certain that has to deal with how your computer is formatted. If your computer runs anything that takes up any sort of space it sometimes causes ur computer in general to lag, and ur soundcard included. that probly whats going on. Is it only happening when you open up fraps?

Hi, I just got Fraps and I was trying to record some video on BFBC2. My fps was 40-60 and stays there no matter what happens (building falling down, tank blowing up, etc.) When I press F9 to record tho, the fps drops to 18-28 (maybe 30..) But.. idk if its strange, but the video I recorded was as smooth as ever and looked amazing, but while I was playing and recording it... lol Lets just say I had a hard time killin ppl. Anyway you can help..? Thanks.

I'm using fraps. It's extremely frustrating. It does this on Black Ops. It does this on friggin Doom, Quake 2. My PC is good enough. To run BO on high quality at 60 fps. The FPS will randomly drop to 20 even on Doom. Is this the file change? I'm also recording the files on a second hard drive as it's meant to save a lot of fps with recording and using a program called game booster. My FPS is fine until I get the random dips.

@TheLolthazun huh that is very weird, Ive never heard of anything like that happening. If your running it at 60 fps it shouldnt change. But saying that it randomly drops to 20 fps, there has to be somthing going on in the background, like you sayed, file change might be the issue. Though it shouldnt. how long does the spike last?

@ggFrenzy I changed the fps cap to 100 it significantly lowered the how frequently it did it but still occasional does it. It really depends. It could last for a second, or longer, or until I stop recording and begin recording again.

I sure hope this works. I've tried just about every method listed on the Tube. I'm trying to capture Vice City, which runs around 25 to 30 fps. My PC isn't new (about 3 years old), but it shouldn't be lagging like it is every time I hit the F9 key. I'm gonna try a grenade next.

@DrVenture45 just keep in mind, Fraps takes a lot of space to run, i mean it pretty much is capturing footage in Full resolution and HD quality, all in an un-compressed format. but yes i hope this helps you out to =p
