@Carolarny1 I guess you meant grandmother. without the death scene, it probably wouldn't be as emotional or good. people remember stories better if there's both life and death, just like in real life.
the grandmother is so wise, she says, there's something else too, something you must promiss, You have gift heidi, While your touching the people around you helping them, bringing joy. But it can be a curse too, because it can use you up untill theres nothing left nothing for yourself so promiss me , no matter how hard, promiss to look deep inside and find out who you are. Hold on to it heidi, no matter what. CRYING I"M CRYING
In alot of ways, I won't say it's an improvement on (that's not really possible, since the ideas come from it) but this excellent adaptation goes further than the book. The central theme of Spyri's work was self-development and increasing maturity. In Heidi's intention to keep her promise to Clara, as well as dealing with Grandmother's death, she shows evidence of both. I also like the idea of Rottenmeier going up the mountain, and a suggested romance between the Doctor and Peter's mother.
There's a book called Heidi Grows Up by Charles Tritton. I read it when I was a child. In it, Heidi DOES marry Peter. I can't remember much else, but I remember that.
Isn't the grandmother the same actress from Little House on the Prairie? The dying one with the 3 children who Mr. Edward adopts? When she said "Remember me" I recognized her.
I kinda wish they hadnt made the Großmutter die ...
