  • Well, it is definately agreat vocal stunt but dramaticly it's a bit of a show off. The kind that Callas would have raised both eyebrows over:-).

  • @Lindow You mean like the time Callas sang the world's loudest, longest (and unwritten) high Eb at the end of the triumphal scene from Aida?

  • @goldenthroat86 Somehow I knew that was gonna come back at me, but: Callas did it to put one very loud very obnoxious college who had been bothering the entire cast with his demeanor in his place and even asked her colleagues before she did it. I don't think Caballe asked anyone before she did this, but I could be wrong.

  • Montserrat the magnificent!!!!!!!!!!!!1

  • Only note ever held longer: Giovanni Jones, conducted by Bugs Bunny (Leopold) in the classic cartoon.

  • amazing, sounds like a sparkling brilliant!

  • As Steve Blier said, the High C that ate Chicago -- Wonderfu.

  • @parodycreator25 Vaya... supones bastante mal.

  • I counted 17 seconds :)

  • stupendaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

  • OK, so that old line about the fat lady singing really has something behind it. This is amazing talent!

  • @Superdaaaniel Christina does 20 seconds of vomiting. This is 15 seconds of mind-blowing perfection.

  • What kind of an idiot dislikes this!!!??

  • I was so lucky to be there in Verona in 1969 - this was one of my greatest experiences in opera ever!

  • thankyou Montserrat Caballe

  • Amazing breath control, but that was what Caballe was famous for of course. She did not have the biggest voice nor the most powerful among the legendary sopranos, but she had a god-like breath control and musicianship as seen here.

  • oh I have to cry!

  • The world best vocal

  • who takes this picture at 0:16!!! my god, she looks as Stalin in a mecanic eyes!! lol

  • "Hmm, whatever shall I do today?

Oh, I know, I'll hold a note through the entire CRETACEOUS PERIOD."

  • Stupenda Caballe!!

  • This is such an amazing note - I always turn out disappointed when Elisabettas hold the note only for a brief few seconds. Although I must admit the photo at 0:16 is amusingly disturbing.

  • This is the don Carlos with Domingo... yes? Very good! The Corelli Don Carlo last note is a musical miracle!

  • Il n'y en avait qu'une pour faire cela!!!!!!! VIVA CABALLE

  • Viva Caballe!

  • Wooooh!

  • Ri demais da 5ª foto!!

  • I have the complete recording and its an amazing one! Not only Domingo joins her, but Cossotto, Cappuccilli and Inbal.

If I a right she does the same at her Met Don Carlo in the early 70s

  • @Wotan123456789 I have also the whole rec!!You are very right!!

  • @Wotan123456789 hehe! Knowing Caballe, she could probably have held it for 30 minutes!!!

  • @Randidan I think so too. I am a firm believer of the scientific theory stating that Caballe has three lungs.

  • @Wotan123456789 hahaa!! I hadn't heard that one! very good! Actually, though, it's not that unusual in a well-trained singer -- they don't actually use that much air... It's fun to hear them "show off" now & then!!

  • @Wotan123456789 thanks I'm not the only one !
