listen ppl Rumi was Persia he was born in the area which is now known as Afghanistan but you cant say that he was afghan because afghanistan did not exist at that time but he is not iranian either. if anything he would be more afghan and he would be the afghan ppl's ancestor. but either way he was a one of us and he brightens our name in the world even today long after his death
Who cares if he was Iranian or Afghan or Turk! He can move human soul after 800 years! That's how Molana is, beyond nationality and all these lines that little minds are so obsessed with! This event happened in a Buddhist temple in LA! Hope some of us can really get the real point! Enjoy my friends

But Khorasan was and is a part of Iran. Maybe balkh is some miles away and located in current Afghanistan. the important thing is that he was from Iran.
Rumi was pashtu? Why did he write in Farsi and speak Farsi if he was a pashtu? did "afghanistan" even exist in the time of Rumi? you can see clearly how a pashtu fucks up farsi even while trying hard. Why and try to steal from the persians? there must have been some one in afghanistans history you can be proud of and claim for yourselves.
There are physicall borders, Identity borders, and religion borders between humans, some are proud of persian language and Iran and call a poor Afghan labour names!! but there is no borders and difference between humans in the truth beyond physical facts which lasts 50-100 years and then collapses as a country or dies as an old man "INA LIL ALLAH EH WA INA ELIHE RAAJEOON"

I am not proud of Persian language or Persian empire, what makes Persian/Dari language interesting is that this language has been unique in carring love messages, humanity, and devine. No language can match English now, and is one of the richest language that covers world's education, economy, technology, and culture(music, cinema and theather).
Republic of Iran does not have the right to claim the name Iran, and thus abuse persian language and culture in order to influence Afghanistan and Tajikistan.
papapsn! don't forget that Rumi was Afghanmandn was born in Balkh -Afghanistan, it will be an embarassmenet for Sufisimif you call Rumi as Iranian, cuz Iranians don't have culture, either they follow Arabic culture or Western, Iranian language is full of Arabic.
afghanistan didnt exist as country till few centuries ago,so how can u claim he was from afghanistan?Afghan means pashtun and rumi was persian, not pashtun(afghan) dont u get it?Read some books before u open ur mouth, people are reading ur comments! Al biruni mentioned afghans as a people living in sulaiman mountains, now whats the connection of history of balkh and the word "Afghan"? Why u want to call persian poets as pashtuns?do U know the difference between persian and pashtun language?
I am not Pashtun Afghan I am Tajik Afghan and my language is Dari, I don't speak Pashtu.
I agree with you that Afghanistan was formed something like 200 years or so, but before that Afghanistan was Khurasan not Iran, This is very Iranian Propaganda to include Afghanistan and her cultural/Historical heritiage as Iranian. Mawlana Jalaludeen Mohammad Balkhy wasn't born in Tehran or Isfahan. He was born in Balkh-Afghanistan.
Turks named Iranians and persians as tajik, so ur actually fighting against ur own herritage by bringing difference between tajik and persians and tajiks and Iranians. Even in Iran turks called persians as tajiks! Rumi was born in Khorasan, not pashtunistan(awghanistan). Rumi encountered one of the most famous mystic Persian poets, 'Attar, in the Iranian city of Nishapur, located in the province of Khorāsān. Shamse tabrizi, (the teacher of rumi) was Iranian from tabriz.
Now I will explain to u that khorasan was Iran's inseparable part. I will give u even evidence written by islamic persian scholars before and after Rumi's life:
-Mir Khvand(1433-1498), the Timurid era historian mentions:
" ایرانشهر از کنار فرات تا جیهون است و وسط آبادانی عالم است. Iranshahr straches from the Euphrates to the Oxus, and it is the center of the prosperity of the World.
Yaqut al-Hamawi (d. 1229),(born in rumi's time) a Syrian born geographer is famous for his geography bible Mu'jam Al-Buldan. He quotes the famous Iranian Muslim scientist Biruni:
" ایرانشهر..قال ابوریحان بیرونی: ایران شهر هی بلاد العراق و فارس و الجبال و خراسان یجمعها کلها هذاالاسم
Iranshahr..according to Abu Rayhar Biruni: Iranshahr encompasses the land of Iraq, Fars, Mountains (Media) and Khurasan.
Abu al-Hasan Ali ibn al-Husayn Al-Masudi (896-956), the Arab historian mentions one Kingdom encompassing Persian lands:
" The Persians are a people whose borders are the Mahat Mountains and Azarbaijan up to Armenia .... and Masqat and Shabaran and Jorjan and Abarshahr, and that is Nishabur, and Herat and Marv and other places in land of Khorasan, and Sejistan and Kerman and Fars and Ahvaz...(and...etc..)
-Bahman-Nama and Kush-Nama are two important works of Persian poetry written by Hakim Iranshah ibn Abi al-Akhayr (11th century A.D.).
In the epic Kush-Nama, the name Iran is used 91 times and some of the provices of Iran are mentioned including: Zabol, Sepahan, Mukran, AzarAbaayegaan (Iranian Azerbaijan), Amol, Bukhara, Bistun, Khurasan, Kadarhar, Kufa and Nimruz. On the boundary of Iran, in the KushNama he says: (read in my next reaction)...
" ....... ایران به ایرج رسید کجا تخت ایران مراو را سزید ز جیحون برو تا دریای پارس همان کوفه از مرز ایران شناس دگر آذرآبادگان هرچه هست از ایران شمارد هشیوار و مست
From Oxus, wich was a domain of Iraj,al the way to the Persian Gulf, also Azarabadegan and lands of Kufa ar parts of Iran
Finally, I want to say that Rumi's time, there was no facist dive and rule politics of cultures and languages. Rumi was not ashamed to call his language Persian, he was proud of it. Dividing the Iranian plateau, culture, languages, it doesnt serve ur interests if u are a real farsi speaker, and also not my interests.
first of all, even rumis poets has a lot of arabic words, while his language stays persian. Each language is influenced by other languages, for example: english has a lot of french words. For example, persian dari uses arabic names for all of their 12 months, while Persian of Iran uses persian words. The arabic words are changable and can be substituted by Iranic words, so that all forms of persian (dari, tajiki,Irani) get clean from the foreign infected words.
Anvari (1126--1189), (persian poet): He served at the court of Sultan Sanjar of the Seljuqids. When Ghuzz tribesman devastated Khurasan and captured Sultan Sanjar, Anvari writes a letter to the Khaqan of Samarqand, asking him to liberate Iran from the Ghuzz tribesman
I gave u at list 6 sources from poets and scholars that lived between 600 to 1200 years ago. The sources explain clearly the following facts:
- khorasan was part of Iran and it was not named afghanistan
- The culture of khorasan was persian
- The peoples that lived there were called persians, not afghans, or pashtuns, or other names.
- In the time that rumi (the Iranian persian poet) lived, khorasan was also Iranian with persian idendity and Rumi's teacher was also persian from tabriz.
U pepole shuold be ashame of you´r self. How can you listen to Rumi and don´t understand what he´s saying. What those it mater if it´s persian afgan turkish or eny other lounge. He talks about peace and true love you are disrecpecting the great teacher by writing your comment. I hope you al change one day.peace love and understanding.reza
This poem I understood it in English and I find it just fantastic. If one pays attention to the words will then have no need for petty comments. I have read a version of it by Coleman Barks who is also a great in presenting Rumi's work. I wish I could find this version also somewhere written ... Thanks

What's wrong with you people? get over it. In our country Iran everyday living is just like a hell, if there is any hell, and now you telling me about persian language and all of your comments are about persian/tajik/pashtu? come on, say something do something about the anti-humanity happenning in Iran, say something about the whole persian nation that Islamic animals destroyng them everyday.Calm down and think wisely, this video was not that bad.
Can some one tell me what the name of this poem is in Farsi? I love this poem and it's a shame that some one who is Persian and can speak farsi didn't read it, cuz I can't understand a damn word this woman is saying. Please if you know the name of this poem or what book it can be found in reply. Thank you.
That woman doesn't share any language with Rumi- or anything for that matter. Rumi was from a Persian city and this woman is nothing but an immigrant to that city. It's like an Indian guy from Bombay claiming Confucius as his own. Rumi belongs to the whole humanity, not to just some random Pashtun woman who can't even find some Pashtun to be proud of. Imagine some Nazi claiming Einstein to be one of their own. That's how ridiculous this video is.
She has a thick ugly Pashto accent and another thing is her last name ends with Zai, No Iranian, or farsi speakers from afghanistan who are known as ethnic persians/tajiks have last names ending with Zai. So she is a fraud and liar.
This is a joke lol the woman who read Rumi's poem in Persian/Farsi, she couldnt even read it properly. She made many mistakes, probably a 4th grader native Farsi speaker would have done a better job than her. She is a Pashtun from southern afghanistan and Rumi was a Tajik/Persian from Balkh. There is no Pashtun in Balkh so she lied about sharing her birthpalce with Rumi. Pashtuns are known or they are synanymous with Taliban. And Taliban committed genocide against people of Balkh.
