  • I don't give a shit what people say John Mayer rocks, and BB King, Buddy Guy, and Eric Clapton would agree with me.

  • he also does not have any balls , to his playing, and very little use of vibrato on bends which is the hallmark of a seasoned player, and alot of bum notes, out of tune...the musicians today are a lesser stock in rock

  • he is just not a real blues player, more like Cray. He does not really go for those high E and B bends. If he was only less douche he would maybe be a cunt hair better, but not much

  • funny how you guys are making fun of him because "he's not as good as hendrix" ... lol, like you guys can do any better. just saying.

  • i don't feel any tension or power in this song.

  • anyone who plays hendrix is cool in my book, i don't know what the fuck ya'll are talkin about

  • @low72 because you dont play guitar, playing hendrix is not hard once you have been playing guitar after a few years and have some musical talent and technique. To play it like him with the right feel is a whole other thing, I could

  • @tele757 True that my friend. Hendrix is not a legend for his guitar skills, he is a legend for what he played, which was totally totally unconventional but sounded FREAKING AMAZING. And inspired every single guitarist thereafter. I havent met one guitarist that wasnt influenced by hendrix. ON another note, you are unknown because music these days dont require musicians. They require douchie looking little faggots that write teenie pop.

  • @tele757 ...? what does that have to do with what i said

  • @TheBanyanEmperor Fucking-a, Right! I couldn't have said it better myself. I hate when ppl just freak out when someone does their own rendition of a legendary song because even if they do an amazingly unbelievable job they can't bring themself to give it any credit, so they take a big ol crap on it instead of just appreciating & enjoying the music.

  • @superchargedkyle because the mediocre listeners should investigate the real deal instead of listening to poor man versions

  • Less is more.

  • I liked John Mayer before, but holy shit, new respect found.

  • wow. Thank goodness real guitarists still exist in the world of popular music. Kudos to John Mayer for keeping real guitar playing alive and in the spotlight.

  • Shawn lane does a cover that destroys this...

  • This is a great cover. John adds his own style to the song. If you want to hear it done exactly like Hendrix then don't watch this video, watch one by Hendrix.

  • @sircharcuterie +1...Stevie's was different than Jimi's, Jeff Beck's was different than both. John's version here is excellent. And yes, he is a great guitarist. But to see another AWESOME version, check out Monte Montgomery. And if you get a chance to see him (Monte) live, you should make every effort to do so.

  • John Mayer Kicks Ass!! Much Respect!!!

  • I'm just glad somebody young gets this music. When we the old people are dead and gone we won't be around to play it. I think John does a great job. I learned this song when it came out 44 years ago and have played it my whole life. This is such a great style of playing, Jimi's melodic blues driven strat playing is the best sound ever.

  • @fingerskills He doesn't just get it; that shit was just about as good as a cover of this song could possibly get. What the hell else can you do? He basically took the best parts from the way Jimi did it, the best parts from the way SRV did it, and then put a VERY smooth vocal style over it which BLOWS AWAY the original vocals! It's got loud raunchy blue rock solos as any Jimi performance should, gets down to quiet tenderness...its got feel, its got noodling...this is music.

  • @TheBanyanEmperor

What about the "Old Love" cover... a Clapton/ Jeff Buckley Mash-up.... whoa!

    Should be on the right

  • At 6:15 to 6:20 he really gets it

  • yeah stop talking trash, they are all great mucisians, so just shut up and listen.

  • come to my channel if you want to hear a not-so-great cover of this awesome song

  • check out little wing played by J. Wolf

  • Nice Cover!!!

  • Respectt

  • this is actually just Mayer copying SRV's version.

  • @jlawbrook indeed it is.

  • @jlawbrook Stevies version was better than Jimi's version.

    Let the flame war begin...

  • @SLAYERMETALLICA357 xD, i like jimis better, but thats cool, the world would suck if everybody had the same opinion.

  • Comment removed

  • SRV did Jimi justice in his version, this on the other hand is just a bloody copy of SRV's version. Worse still, he sings like a faggot. Disgusting.

  • @lerlo Ignorance is a terrible thing.

  • @lerlo Well, SRV is his idol. He's just paying tribute to Hendrix and SRV, and John's arguably one of, if not the best guitarist of our generation. Plus I'd like to see you do better.... :P

  • @battlechri He is a good guitarist, really. Much better than the average uitarists in the POP scene. But he is no God, Legend or anything. Theres nothing special about what he plays, nothing that hasnt been done before a thousand times. Plus being a giant douche doesnt help either.

  • @lerlo very well said, Truth is his playing lacks a bunch of things. I am better, and an unknown these days

  • I hate pop but I have massive amounts of respect for mayer.

  • Ha, this turned into a thread bashing a good musician doing a great cover. Who would have thought? I'm sure Jimi and SRV would have been slamming Mayer too, right? Bc the music isn't about love and sharing...it's a competition.

  • Sounds like a bunch of people are mad their covers didn't get a million views. Jimi and SVR would both groove to this cover, to deny that means you just don't get the point of their music. "When I die I want people to play my music" -Jimi Hendrix

  • a marvellous musician ! Thank you, John

  • There is no reason why this should have more views than HENDRIX...He is a cover artist and a good player but still a bitch....... IF YOU CANT LISTEN TO HENDRIX AND FEEL IT then this is where one should be for COVER SHIT......... Hendrix could fart a tune better than this pussy ........

  • Comment removed

  • !!!!!!!!! Eric Gales - Little Wing at BB King's in Memphis !!!!!!!!! On youtube - A true awesome and original player that kills Mayer ;-)))

  • Well done mayer! Best parts were when you copped SRV licks :P but I might be a little biased haha good cover.

  • this my friends.. is HEAVEN !!!!

  • why did he have to sell out? :P

  • John smokes weed, fucks models, and plays a bad guitar......He is the man. I would like to see a John Mayer Trio show. He pays the bills and makes money on the pop songs

  • still not a pimple on hendix's ass,but decent by earth standards!

  • @artz139 yeah right, "decent" :P

  • @artz139 Oh please!

  • @artz139 Give respect where it's due.

  • Mayer can play his ass off!! I don't think anybody ever did it better than SRV, but this is a nice cover. Also, ever hear the Skid Row cover? It's great too!!

  • why do I always find some of these "purist" pricks in every video of john's covers rambling on about how john is not worthy?seriously get a life instead of bashing him.acknowledge the fact that you wouldn't find anyone else so dedicated to continue the legacy of people like jimi and srv.

  • @MrShiningbubblegum Jealousy!! Pure and simple!! I've been playing guitar for over 20 years and John Mayer not only knows how to play, but he has the soul and feel too!! He's a guitarist's guitar player!! Stop putting down what you cannot do people, and if he sucks, then go do it better!!

  • @faithycoins : You've been playing the skin flute for 20 years. bum

  • @rmed30 Is that really the best you've got? Tell you what, after you read a full book you can come back and play with the big boys, ok little kiddie?

  • Comment removed

  • everybody hates on john mayer. what people don't realize is that the shit he plays is so intricate and extremely difficult for the normal human being. he is a god amongst men.

  • ONE MILLION VIEWS FOR MAYER AND ONLY 215.000 FOR THE REAL GOD STEVIE RAY VAUGHAN ???!!!!!!! FUCK YOUTUBE -

  • @dumbletone As long as guitar players know where this comes from, SVR and JH will be remembered.

  • @rookt31893 SRV

  • well said @rmed30 life's to short, to be bitter!!

  • This is amazing, he would have done Jimi proud!

  • What he's done is take SRV's instrumental version and incorporated the lyrics , good job done

John Mayer has always been a fan of SRV and Hendrix

  • Hm i don't know much john mayer. but now im going to do a little more research. he did a pretty good job on this song.

  • @KamiKraziGuy if you like mayer, I highly recommend doing some research on Richie Kotzen.

  • one of my fav songs :)

  • damn tht was like spot on

  • this sounds alot more like SRV's version than Jimi's

  • @SpearXXXfisha John Mayer was heavily influenced by SRV so he probably learned his version instead.

  • @SpearXXXfisha well he is a big SRV fan haha... either way its a great song :P

  • wow, gotta be the best cover aside from the stevie ray vaughn one, of this song i've heard

  • Why are people talking and not listening to the guy play?! This is so disrespectful for the musician and such a nuisance for those who want to listen to the guy perform...

  • @marietorma As a musician, I can agree to some extent to this statement. You obviously want the crowd to be into the song, but there's a few things that can really bug you. One of them is people not paying attention.

  • @RandomStevie I speak as a musician as well... A musician who wants to listen and HEAR what another musician can do...

  • Thanks John, for keeping the true spirit of guitar playing alive.

  • hes such a damn good player but he is too poppy for me.

  • well he does a decent job...but nobody even dwindles near hendrix.... or SRV for that matter...... when covering Little Wing...and somebody should break hammets guitar on his head for covering Hendrix's Magnum Opus

  • Unlike a lot of other people, especially these days, JM is a trained, even educated, if you will, guitarist first, whose artistic voice has not yet fully developed. His second last album was the most satisfying for me, because some of his blues guitar was starting to inform his writing. Here is hoping that his next will pick up that same thread. But John, please count to ten before you say anything! LOL

  • This guy needs to go back and listen to some more old music because although he has talent he misses the mark on the style of music he is playing, it has no life.

  • I can only IMAGINE his face from 5:42 onward.

  • If they make another installment of Wayne's World the disclaimer in the music store will be no ''Little Wing''.

  • 180 dislikes? no way. AWESOME cover, no doubt he is/ is going to be a guitar god.

  • i wish there was more

  • cannabis

  • I like this cover, "Little Wing" is my favorite song ever, hands down, of any peice of music. John mayer does the song justice and i respect the work he had to put in to play this properly and that he uses his ability and celebrity to expose people to live music they wouldn't normally ever hear overwise. Even jimi himself covered people, "All Along the Watch Tower" was a Dylan song....

  • @amadison19xx And Dylan said Jimi's is the epitome of what All Along the Watch Tower is supposed to be. He basically gave Jimi the song.

  • @amadison19xx yeah but you gotta admit hendrix made that song 10 thousand times better than bob could ever make it..... the rolling stones couldn't even come close to hendrix's cover

  • pure awesomeness :D !

  • How could someone dislike this?!

  • He does a really good job at coping Hendrix's clean tone, the intro could pretty much pass for the studio recording

  • I bet the whole crowd of teenage girls he is playing for thinks this is a new, unreleased song by John Mayer...

  • @miniinverter

OR...maybe they are smarter than your condescending expectation and know it as the classic that their parents listen to all the time and they love and respect the immense talent they are blessed to see and hear instead of being a bitter, jealous, pompous ass, but thats just MY opinion

  • @jonahcbarnett : You're a faggot. You would toss JM's salad if you could. Instead of passing off a bunch of classics like he wrote them himself, for his next tour I heard he's going just going to fart in a jug and pass it around for the crowd to get a big whiff. You better get your ticket.

  • @jonahcbarnett ^^who invited this asshole. I didnt hear anyone cheering this song like they do his other songs which lead to the comment I made.

  • @miniinverter I'm pretty sure they think Mr Jimi Hendrix was a former candidate for American Idol

  • perfect guitar, but vocals definitely need more punch. if john would do this now, vocals would be much better. keep in mind its only 3 of them. most other artists covering have a bigger band behind to fill in the gaps.

  • people hate on JM so much. sure he's a pop artist but he's keeping the blues alive for the next generation. its because he's a pop artist that he exposes EVERYONE to blues.

  • Sorry folks but John Mayer is really really good. A combination of Clapton Hendrix and SRV all rolled up into one. Plays blues as good as anyone.

  • SUCKS!!!

  • No. I am just very spoiled by listening to Jeff Beck for so many years. Everyone else is/was just plain boring.

  • How did Hendrix ever come up with this amazing combination of guitar and lyrics?

  • Hell yeah! John Mayer is a great artist and does great covers! Some of the closest covers I've heard.

  • Very nicely ploted influances from JH and SRV into smooth soul/rnb feel and grove from vocals.

And for those haters or hard core fans - just remember that you would sing a diferent song if John was born 20 year earlier.

  • @MrFatfree : I'm pretty sure "YOur Badey is a wonderland" would have been a piece of shit back in 1970 as well.

  • @MrFatfree John wouldnt have his style is it wasnt for SRV or jimi...GTFO!

  • @MrFatfree if John Mayer was born 20 year earlier, he would have been blow away by SRV... End of the story-

  • @dumbletone haha what the fuck are you talking about? SRV is one of the best blues guitarists in history. Mayer is maybe top 15-20

  • @dumbletone Doesnt matter when he is born, he will be a little douchie fag

  • @lerlo foggot

  • @c0rruptpures yeah he is isnt he. lol thanks for supporting me!

  • No. Just No.

  • WOW!! This is terrible!! I need a good dose of Jeff Beck to wash this out of my system!!!

  • @nuendo2496 Seriously? How in the world could you think this is terrible? Mayer is freaking killing the solo (in a good way) keeping with Jimi's overall style and tone and you claim its terrible? Obviously someone is a little jealous.

  • It's all about the tone and man does he have it. SRV didn't have it though he blisters thru the tune. Beck didn't have it either and his version knocked me out. This young fellow had Jimis timing down, his riffs and his feel and somehow managed to find room for a bit of himself in there as well. Hats off man........Peace forever...

  • John Mayer is every bit as talented as Vaughan or Hendrix, for that matter. People keep dissin' him though just because he didn't die yet.

  • @riseofthefallen301 Mayer is good but he's not as talented as hendrix. He didn't even a style of playing. Mayer just takes what he likes from styles that are already out there. You can dissect his style quite easily.

  • @bubsadoozy

so as everyone else....SRV took it from Ablert and Hendrix, Hendrix took it from Albert and B.B....

  • @riseofthefallen301 I can't measure talent but it's good that players like Robin Trower, SRV, Lenny Kravitz and John Mayer have carried on with Jimi's approach. If you play guitar, why would you NOT want to be influenced by Jimi?

The one who invents the style is always special but, without people following in their tracks, the style would disappear. Kudos to all of them. Love JM's power trio.

  • Respect the Mayer man!

  • Wheres the video dude? I like your playng but I had to give it a thumbs down. No video. WTF? So pissed off. Wanted to see you in action. Bummer. :(

  • @cigarjohn42

All the matter is the music here. Nobody cares about a damn video ! :P

  • @Swippy1217 I know that. He's a great player. But its nice to see him perform in action. Also, it shows its really him. Not saying it isn't but who knows. Nothing like a live performance. Watching the expressions on his face while he plays. It sets the mood.

  • @cigarjohn42 ok ! I understand your reasons now ! ^^

    Peace y'all !

  • So thankful for Mayer right now. Where would blues be today without him?

  • Would definately put Mayer in the same class with Hendrix and Vaughn!!!

  • People tend not to cut JM enough slack as a guitarist because he looks like and is marketed as a popster, but truth be told, he is amazing. No SRV, but still amazing. This is a better cover than Clapton's or Vai's!

  • Congrats on the million! Properly deserved ;)

  • All this hate on an actual artist is why Bieber and Gaga lives. I have nothing against those two but if you guys are going to complain when someone as talented as Mayer actually plays good stuff like this then don't complain when Auto Tune takes over the music industry--either that or you can shut up and let Mayer bring in some real music. :)

  • @MusicOfKeng very very awesomely put... theres jus ONE thing i beg to differ upon.. i think bieber n gaga r waste of oxygen ;) :P

MAYER FOREVER!!... Long live HENDRIX n SRV n their legacy!!!

  • @SanaKamranButt I know. I hate them too just didn't want to put it out there. Lol.

  • @MusicOfKeng ahh :D.. be scared of no one my friend.. speaketh thy mind ;)

  • wow just wow this is the sh1t

  • this is a well-played and more true to the original JH version than the excellent SRV instrumental (which i love!)

PS: what's with all the hateful, immature comments on YT. must be more 10-year-olds listening to SRV/JH/JM than I thought?? weird

  • @buddaman1971 indeed.

  • @buddaman1971 haha wtf ? are saying this is more soulfull than jimi an , and he's a better guitarist than srv ? you must be out of your mind...

  • @xblackb0x How could anyone get that from what I said?

All I said is that it's a pretty faithful cover (musically in the verses, in the Curtis Mayfield-influenced chordal style of the original JH version) that's all. I also said that I love the SRV version...(it's actually my all time favorite version...)

I'm not even really a JM fan, but I appreciate that he's exposes younger people to the classic influences that they might not hear otherwise...

  • @superalphabeast you suck u fucking dumbass this sound just like jimi and Stevie

  • /watch?v=5RQ3HiJvO3o WAAY better singing and playing in my opinion. ^

  • @CAP1997FURACAO sick sick cover too. thanks for sharing

  • ya see?!?! after hearing that, I still have faith in music these days! that wasn't note for note, that was just going with it! sooooo bad ass!

  • You know, this is much better than any of Clapton's covers.

Now, it doesn't hold a candle to Stevie Ray Vaughan's cover (which also featured Third Stone from the Sun), but, for that matter, Hendrix's original of either" Little Wing" OR "Third Stone from teh Sun" couldn't hold a candle to Stevie Ray Vaughan's cover.

  • @HoleHeadedLiar Oh yeah not only holds the candle but blows a big fart flame illuminating Vaughan's super derivative nature . This guy Mayer, expands on Jimi's riffs in an improvisational style almost as Trower did with his songwriting, instead of the near cloning that SRV did so much of . That said I think Stevie was a real good player , just he was a traditionalist in nearly every way , a caretaker of the past styles.

  • Comment removed

  • @HoleHeadedLiar I don't hear too many covers of Cream's live version of Spoonful. Voodoo is good while Spoonful Galactic. Jimi tried Spoonful during a Sunshine tribute...came woefully short. Might as well have thrown down his guitar. I think he did as he went back to Sunshine instead. Meanwhile Clapton raises it to warp drive, unbelieveable.

  • I wish I didn't like this. It's really pretty good. ". SMH.

  • Every guitarist does that r tard...

  • I am no John Mayer fan by any means but the guy is talented and an excellent guitar player. He doesnt have the raw emotion thru his fingers or his voice like Stevie and Hendrix did but he made it. John Mayer is just a very skiled technical player and lots like him, I dont care for him, personally. But who cares.

  • why is he trying to play the way SRV does it? instead of making it his own???

    SRV, Clapton, and Santana have!!!!!

This sack of sh*t has a long way to go................

  • @bebondito the way i see it, John Mayer will never be a true guitar god because he rips off too many licks from Stevie Ray Vaughan and Hendrix. The guy doesnt have his own style, he stole his style from his heroes.

  • @ShotgunBuddha4698

this is a COVER performance...he's gonna use some of the same licks as hendrix and srv...he's a breath of fresh air in continuum, room for squares, battle studies, and heavier things. listen to those before you judge him on a live cover of an amazing song. he's pretty damn original

  • @ShotgunBuddha4698 really? ha

  • This guy is a fuck

  • @PaleHorseApocalipse fuck is a guy this.

  • this guy really sucks.

  • @Andre7770111 lol

  • he still sucks...

  • unfortunately JM is a pretender.....A coc* bag.....so many are better with a guitar in hand!!!....The man is a facade. Not real real legend for the future....no doubt a guy that loves the guitar, but many years before respect encompasses him.

  • @k2ombs John Mayer is really fucking good at guitar

    deal with it

  • @k2ombs What a crock of shit, maybe if you spent less time talking shit on the internet you might actually amount to something.

  • This is actually good.

  • l gave John lessons when he was 17.

  • @joe1969812 really? cos that'd be pretty bangin if it was true
