1.) Sort of, it was actually the USSR that did that. An American was the first to pilot a space craft. Gagarin was just a passenger, and he wasn't even in the craft when it landed.
2.) I do disagree. The US could launch people into space if we needed to right now. All that would be missing is a launch abort system, which the Shuttle didn't even have.

It's foolish to judge all RLVs based on the Shuttle.
The shuttle had the problem of high fixed costs and a low flight rate.
One of the big cost with STS is the infrastructure needed to handle large SRBs and the amount of refurbishment of the TPS took.
It also takes a considerable amount of time to assemble the shuttle stack which limits flight rates which means each flight will be expensive.
MAKS greatly reduces two issues and eliminates the cost of SRBs.

1.) Sort of, it was actually the USSR that did that. An American was the first to pilot a space craft. Gagarin was just a passenger, and he wasn't even in the craft when it landed.
2.) I do disagree. The US could launch people into space if we needed to right now. All that would be missing is a launch abort system, which the Shuttle didn't even have.
Enjoy flying foreighners into space because in three years they will all be giving thier money to American companies.

Russian space agency (not some private business as in US) already accept progect (in 2010) of new space ship (larger then US Progect-X). And already begin building a new cosmodrom on a far east. Either Russia lead expiriment MARS500. (i think u know about).Next step of this expiriment will be going in ISS and then when ship would be done Mars. Russia had a space pogramm - US no at moment....

Mars500 is a joke. Stuffing a bunch of guys in a closet doesn't get you any closer to mars, and seeing as how Russia has never created a space craft, and the last one the USSR created was in the 80's, and you didn't even use it, I put little faith in your development program.

@softer26 Cassini barely studied Jupiter at all, Saturn was it's primary mission. Curiosity is totaly different than spirit and Opportunity. They were small sample taking rovers, this a fully functioning lab on wheels.
The US government has not failed. It's doing much better than the Russian. Failer would have been if we just kept flying the shuttle forever without broadening our horizon.
Dragon space, you made up and Project X is a movie. NASA has planned space flights. Pay more attention.

In US Grade schools, you can learn Spanish, French and German.
Americas second language is Spanish.

@TacticalHub English is one of the most simple languages you can find around and its simplicity can only be compared with say Indonesian - Austranesian languages. Them too are mongrel languages, have huge loans from other languages (including Chinese, Indian, Arab, Spanish, Dutch and English) and them too are very descriptive like English. But be it so, English remains an extremely simple language.
The most complex and synthetic and the ONLY logical language is Greek (ancient, modern alike).

I am fluent in french and know that one word fits all in that language. Grand can mean large, tall, big long etc. We have many words that describe slightly differently. Also, greek is not logical. Greek is logical in the sense that all words are rooted to basic words. You call the car car but there is no explanation. In Greek it is called autokinito and there is an explanation for it. The vast amount of vocabulary is explained.

I was raised speaking English, and I've taken classes in Arabic, French, and Spanish, and I've met people from all around the world who have learned to speak English, and it isn't easy by any means. Or rather, it's easy to speak on a very basic level, but it has a lot of levels of complication, idioms, synonyms, complex metaphors and other things like that that make it a bitch to learn fluently.
