  • Do one thing, either every few days change the background to white and inspect the screen carefully for any dark spots. If you know how to open your imac lcd pannel which is quite easy actually but u have to be a bit careful thats all. to see if its samsung or no.

  • What you have here is called dead spots. Looks like dust but its not and it spreads with time i had the same issue with my 27 inch i7 only 4 months old. Found out the lcd or what ever they call it were factory defective. The original that came with apple are from LG. The replacement ones are from samsung.

  • @digitalwolves well that sheds some bit of light on the matter I guess. Apple calls it accumulated dust along with condensation thus an environmental issue to which I dispute and doubt. I do agree that is a factory defect on the part of LG. Would you know if the Samsung LED's in iMacs exhibit the same? Apple replaced my iMac with a brand new unit 27" Mid-2011 model, would you know if it carries Samsung or LG?

  • @kakoair You can only know if you remove the glass and remove the 4 screws on either side of the lcd. All the information is written on the back of the screen. But i wont advise you to open it, you have a very short wire on the left top behind that connects to the mother board and u can very easily damage it. They told me that they are seeing a lot of 27 inch imac coming with the same issue. some he said they have replaced 3 times still same issue. So now they are replacing it with samsung lcds

  • I got the same problem. Apple already fixed it once, which was a huge ordeal and took forever. It was fine for a while (maybe I just didn't notice) but it's back again. Definitely a manufacturer problem.

Big grey streaks in the upper left screen for me. Can see it perfectly with the screen off and direct sunlight. Guess I'll be taking a trip to see the retards at the "genius" bar.

You should call Apple care or take it to an apple store. Especially if they fixed it before, it's their fault.

  • solution is to open the led panel ,it compose for three page ,to remove dust ,do it with caution ,the dust is not under glass protector it is under 1page led panell ,

  • @yazidE020991 hmmm it's not dust, because the inner display panel doesn't just have dark spots,it also has lines (looks like a barbed wire or the lines on a crumpled piece of paper that GROWS),in addition I'm starting to get the yellowish tint.So doing a self fix is a no-no especially I'm under AppleCare, they denied me a replacement and blamed it on my environment and told me to do what you said under an authorized service provider to which the latter said IS NOT IN ANY OF THEIR SERVICE MANUALS.

  • same on my imac27inch that's a shame :/ what you suggest for me to do antonvidia?

  • @antonvidia not sure, now it's not only cloud like dark spots, there are lines (like the ones on a crumpled piece of paper) on the display. I've experienced this in 24" inch iMacs and 27 inch iMacs 8 times already and it's

not only me. I think it's a manufacturig defect on the side of the LED panel manufacturers or a design flaw.

  • O no, what a pain. What is causing the led to do that, you know?

  • @antonvidia my display problems is on te actual panel itself. Even if I clean the glass panel or the front panel of the led display it won't solve the problem. The problem is inside the LED panel which you have to pry open to see.

  • do you get this as soon as you power up? i got a bloody massive one at the bottom of my screen! :( apple are twats lol

  • @antonvidia yup i do. Actually my iMac is on its 4th display now, just about over 2 months I have a dark spot and a line mark on the top left of the display panel. There are 2 lines, 1 is about 2.5 inches long the other is about 1.5 inches (looks like the lines on a crumpled piece of paper).

  • @kakoair Well I have sorted it buy just cleaning the back of the glass. :S
