The politicians want a lot of photo ops because a great deal of good has been accomplished. We stay apolitical. There are lots of other groups and there is a lot of dishonesty, but my group is clean and we work with the other honest brokers.

As for foreign aid, no it was in terms of public demain, the U.S. was un number 1# charity when it comes to private. I think a lot of people get put off by his comment that "America, really, is the best thing out there" (excuse the paraphrase).. I like Matt, and I love the US. But I for one would not like the US two-party system anywhere near my country. And I don't think you have to look extremely hard to find examples of better ways to govern than that of the USA.
The idea of dividing powers between the Executive President, Congress and the Supreme Court is quite good in a smaller country. But only nine judges on the bench means that one or two can too easily swing the vote. As well the President has taken too much power from a weak Congress.
Having 100 Senators in 50 States means each State gets two whatever its size. Huge States like Texas and California are therefore under-represented.

One of the problems with Socialism is that it needs massive Government control to take money away from people and give it to others. Exceptionalism is an ideological cancer, no matter who has it: the US, the USSR, Hitler, Serbia, Japan, China. That Americans still hold to this doctrine after recent decades is a pathological intellectual condition.
He usually comes across as quite intelligent, and while he isn't on top form here I wouldn't go so far as to call him stupid/closed-minded.
Nonetheless some of his comments seem out-of-touch with reality, after-all the current US system is unsustainable, it literally couldn't support itself if other countries didn't function as they currently do, and it would fail completely if they functioned anything like the US system.
The founding idea of America seems decent, but corruption has ruined it.
Sadly I thought Matt Damon was a logical and thinking man. Unfortunately I have been proved to have been ignorant on this occasion. The united State's worst export is 'Americans'. The politicians want a lot of photo ops because a great deal of good has been accomplished. We stay apolitical. There are lots of other groups and there is a lot of dishonesty, but my group is clean and we work with the other honest brokers.

The idea of dividing powers between the Executive President, Congress and the Supreme Court is quite good in a smaller country. But only nine judges on the bench means that one or two can too easily swing the vote. As well the President has taken too much power from a weak Congress.
Having 100 Senators in 50 States means each State gets two whatever its size. Huge States like Texas and California are therefore under-represented.
And the voting system really sucks.

In a free Country anyone is free to help Africa if they choose too.. what gives the government the right to use our taxes to send them money? If people would rather take of of their own family's with their money they should be able to. Why is it those you don't want to don't have a choice?

The biggest problem I have with Americans is that they are not at all critical to their country. They (indeed) have a far lower social standard than most european countries and developed Asian countries. Yet they think they are the best effing country in the world. That's just ignorant arrogance.

No, Matt. When you build a school for someone from a different culture, they will grow up hating you and your country. History has proven this over and over. No matter what America tries to do in it's misguided philanthropy, we are seen as interlopers and imperialist conquerers. Doesn't matter that it isn't true, thats how it is. We would be a far greater country with fewer problems if we weren't so busy trying to "help" everyone who wants us dead.

Matt seems to have a good heart, hopefully as he grows more mature if he can observe impartially how things work ha may hopefully come to the realization that Conservatism works and gives people the most Liberty and the most property. One of the problems with Socialism is that it needs massive Government control to take money away from people and give it to others. Even if the people who have this huge control over others start as moral people, they become corrupt and the system fails.

I agree that america does have a lot of points where it's great (even though a lot of this greatness lies in the past, not the present). but it also has a lot of negative points on its track record and points where it's just going in the wrong direction. e.g. politics, religion, global warming/ecology, corporations, rich vs. poor, etc.)

He usually comes across as quite intelligent, and while he isn't on top form here I wouldn't go so far as to call him stupid/closed-minded.
Nonetheless some of his comments seem out-of-touch with reality, after-all the current US system is unsustainable, it literally couldn't support itself if other countries didn't function as they currently do, and it would fail completely if they functioned anything like the US system.
The founding idea of America seems decent, but corruption has ruined it.
