Weed is definitely one of the most bizarre out of the drugs. For most people it causes more good than harm and yet it's still illegal. I have lost some idiot friends though, who haven't watched how much weed they've smoked and it has ended up putting some of them on the streets. The withdrew symptoms are also very bad, they can make you go literally insane. But it should only be used by doctors to prescribe to their patients, not at everyone's disposal. @planetary109 Since marijuana isn't physically addictive, the withdrawal symptoms would be minor inconveniences and not severely painful like the withdrawal symptoms from quitting alcohol, tobacco, caffeine, crack, meth, etc. And no, quitting marijuana does not make you go insane. In fact, those of us who regularly smoke weed often quite for weeks if not months at a time to get rid of some of our tolerance so we can experience a better high.
@italianXnightmare Pot's still controversial. It's just not for some people. I would love to stop seeing people get arrested for it, but then again I don't think it encourages a good work ethic. They should definitely legalize it in retirement homes, etc.

It's legal where I live. As it should be. There is no reason to make it illegal except for children. Causes less damage than alcohol. Actually has some positive effects. I'm pretty sure that, whatever the reason it's illegal in the US has to do with either money or power. Like when they made it illegal it secured jobs or boosted economics. Or when they made it illegal some form of law enforcement or president was more viable.
One thing is for sure; it's definitely not for health reasons.

Extended use will turn your brain down a few notches, these problems disappear after about 4 months of not using. I live in the Netherlands, no taboo here, this is common knowledge.
If your brain doesn't have to perform anything for half a year, go ahead, there's no long term effects (apart from lung cancer through smoking), you can't overdose, and unlike with alcoholic, there's no aggressive stoners (why alchohol is legal over there and weed isn't is beyond me).
@runedermilot Just to let you know, as far as we know smoking cannabis does not cause lung cancer.The largest study of it's kind ever was conducted by the university of California and published in the Washington Post found that people who smoked cannabis and only cannabis where at no increased risk of lung cancer.Tobacco will give you cancer if you chew it (mouth and tongue),if you snort it (Snuff, nose and throat) and if you smoke it (lung) but it is the substance,not the method of ingestion :)

The withdrew symptoms are also very bad, they can make you go literally insane. But it should only be used by doctors to prescribe to their patients, not at everyone's disposal. @planetary109 Since marijuana isn't physically addictive, the withdrawal symptoms would be minor inconveniences and not severely painful like the withdrawal symptoms from quitting alcohol, tobacco, caffeine, crack, meth, etc. And no, quitting marijuana does not make you go insane. In fact, those of us who regularly smoke weed often quite for weeks if not months at a time to get rid of some of our tolerance so we can experience a better high.

It's legal where I live. As it should be. There is no reason to make it illegal except for children. Causes less damage than alcohol. Actually has some positive effects. I'm pretty sure that, whatever the reason it's illegal in the US has to do with either money or power. Like when they made it illegal it secured jobs or boosted economics. Or when they made it illegal some form of law enforcement or president was more viable.
One thing is for sure; it's definitely not for health reasons.

Extended use will turn your brain down a few notches, these problems disappear after about 4 months of not using. I live in the Netherlands, no taboo here, this is common knowledge.
If your brain doesn't have to perform anything for half a year, go ahead, there's no long term effects (apart from lung cancer through smoking), you can't overdose, and unlike with alcoholic, there's no aggressive stoners (why alchohol is legal over there and weed isn't is beyond me).

@runedermilot Just to let you know, as far as we know smoking cannabis does not cause lung cancer.The largest study of it's kind ever was conducted by the university of California and published in the Washington Post found that people who smoked cannabis and only cannabis where at no increased risk of lung cancer.Tobacco will give you cancer if you chew it (mouth and tongue),if you snort it (Snuff, nose and throat) and if you smoke it (lung) but it is the substance,not the method of ingestion :)

Second, those who inhale marijuana hold it in their lungs for a longer period of time than tobacco users causing more damage. Third, marijuana has three times the amount of tar as tobacco. That does not even hint at the mental effects. Short term, it causes hallucination, decreased depth perception, and reduced judgment. Long term, it causes cancer and brain degeneration.

The study that linked marijuana to killing brain cells was designed so it would result with that effect. Any person that only breathes marijuana smoke with little to no levels of oxygen for 30 minutes straight would have brain damage regardless of the smoke. Yet that's what they did to the monkeys; suffocated them and then linked it to the marijuana.
