  • This video doesn't do the plane justice at all.

  • sounds like a deisel truck whereas the corsair sounds like a dirty great corvette

  • @10dthompson60

    Diesel*

  • Quality fail.

  • This is also known as the german killer or king of the skies

  • sounds like a poo-c compared to the ME-109

  • @casualchimera

I suggest you get your hearing checked

  • Sounds a bit like the Millenium Falcon failing its 'hyper-drive' at 0:06... anyone??

  • @RetardedDrummer It's an inertia starter, that's where the sound originated.

  • Such an intoxicating sound!!!

  • Another great BRITISH aircraft.

  • @noonsight2010 american design and built... used by both americans and british. its hardly a british aircraft. it is great, though.

  • @greensp4rk

This variant was British. The early Mustang marks had a different airframe and Allison (sic) engines. They did not perform very well. The new airframe, bubble canopy, Merlin engine on the later versions of the classic Mustangs were all British modifications. The Americans just built them. Even the sound-barrier breaking Bell X1 was based on the British Miles. It was crated up and sent to the USA as part of war repayments.

  • @noonsight2010 you suck...frankly who CARES?

  • @98bennyj

Sour grapes! You're the moron who got his facts wrong and you raised the mattter with me remember. You imbecile!

  • @noonsight2010 ok plankton (from spongebob)

  • @noonsight2010 OK ASSHOLE! you have pissed me off. First, the corsair had nothing to do with your british bullshit. And in some countries, the Brewster had a kill ratio of 21:1-1 buffalo lost for every 21 kills. And the cobras- they were experimental ones that just happened to be suited to ground attack and given to the soviets and they helped A LOT. One more thing; america designed the nuke and b29-the perfect combo! Fuck w America n' we'll bomb your ass off the planet. GOOD DAY, BASTARD!

  • @98bennyj

    @noonsight2010

Calm down, you two. The war is already over.

  • @EliteMadHornet that's what ive been saying, but that fucker is so lifeless hes STILL sending me shitty letters

  • @noonsight2010 and dont you fucking dare say the nuke was made by germans!

  • @noonsight2010 2 fucking replies- its like the Space Race. Americans only needed the ideas of weapons or technology and the made them first, Russians first in space but americans first actually on moon. German idea of nuke but americans made it first. As you have said, a fool speaks because he wants to say something, and that VERY FOOL IS YOU! Now i end the topic, and say, SCREW YOU! Btw hi Octane

  • 10 gallons of gas gone in 30s !

  • Wow!!!!!!

  • Why dislike this?? Friggen tools.. sod off.

  • @TheFunkhouser They were old Fighter pilots. They mised the like button because they are old;)

  • @lwkleijn Go jerk off. ;)

  • I would rather listen to this here looped for 38 hours then a 15 second segment of Lady Gaga

  • ..That thing needs a tune-up. lol

  • Just listen to that Merlin come to life,....AWESOME!!

  • can't beat the sound of a good ol british designed engine . . .That Merlin sounds fucking sweet !

  • @StolenMonkey Did the North american version use a different engine?

  • i thought they were hand-propped...

  • @misterrandompancake its an old plane but holy shit dude its not that old of a plane

  • sounds like the v6 yamaha on my boat...

  • nice sound of piston engine!

  • they dont make'm like they use to

  • @konfusion2113 So true.

  • In case you guys haven't heard, there is a movie about the Tuskegee Airmen called "Red Tails" coming out in January of 2012. I'm looking forward to it.

  • @2WHITE22 Just remember that victory came as a result of this plane. It came as a result of many other events but this plane was one magor mark for us. What wars have fighter jet won?

  • @SuperJarrod13 iraq

  • @hardwirecars Don't you think the mighty American Military could have defeated Saddam without air power? Even so did 1 single plane change the face of that war? I do see what you're saying but Iraq never had air superiority right? The Germans did. They had the range to defend bombers, and a large area where the allies could not.

  • 23 people who watched this video were German WWII pilots.

  • @EliteMadHornet - No, they are friends of German WWII pilots that were shot down and killed...

  • @EliteMadHornet Best line of the year! Tooooooooooo funny.

  • I bet the pilots who flew this beauties got all kinds of tail after coming back home !! and they deserved it too...

  • you can see the engine torque when the wings rock, i love it. thanks.

  • Like a drunk honeybee :D

  • This beast shot down many russian motherfuckers !

  • @ViciousCritique Don't you mean German?

  • @ViciousCritique

Say what? We were on the same side dumbass. Try reading a few history books and a little less Facebook.

  • @SchwartzeBaron Shut up russian immigrant living american dream .

    Go back to russia fuckface.

  • @ViciousCritique u really have no clue what ur talkin about do u?

  • 70 years ago some men were fighting in style :D

  • @Hawkinz3335 the US military always flies in style :D

  • as an avid model builder your videos are a great referance for me thankyou.

  • Great sound ! Love it !

  • The 23 dislikes on this video must have been German pilots that got shot down by one in WWII!

  • Sounds like a junky old English engine alright. Anyone who's ever driving an MG, knows what I mean...

  • AWESOME!!!! Thanks for sharing this clip!!!

  • how can people dis-like this clip, its in my favs herd it a hundered times still gives me a smile, ,,

  • the sound of freedom!

  • I'd like to shove that under the hood but it would probably rip the tires right off the rims.

  • errm... Spitfires started with merlin then moved to griffons later not other way round. The merlin became a popular engine being also fitted to the Lancaster; Mosquito and (in limited numbers) the Beaufighter amongst others. Also, the Challenger 2 not do anything special? A Challenger 2 only set the world record for the longest ranged kill shot (something like 2 miles but open to correction on that detail). It's survivability record is also excellent AND proven in combat.

  • love the p51 stunning looking plane, I also like the yanks.

    yes im a brit..

  • Sounds like victory.

  • Steve Hinton is such a neat guy. Met him years ago at Chino, California, when he was flying the F7 for the show. The man knows his stuff!

  • 23 people are Germans.

  • @USSWISCONSIN64 We got you covered both ways....German-American Edgar Schmued, the Father of the

    P-51.

Would have been something to get Schmued, Willy Messerschmitt and Kurt Tank together for a chat.

Perhaps U-tube needs to put the thumbs up and down further apart, easy to hit the wrong one.

  • @rampking1 Seeing that i pushed the like button about 20, 30 times. :)

  • Listen to that amazing sound!!!

  • If his battery died, I bet Churck Norris could hand prop it.

  • i thought they had to be turned on by hand?

  • This airplane is so beautiful yet so badass at the same time

  • I thought the Merlin was nice sounding until I heard that 4 row Corsair at Chino airshow.

Because of the exhaust system on the Corsair, it has a roar that the short stacks of the Mustang can't match.

    Bill

  • almost sounds like my lawn mower

  • Good example of what an Alliance can make.

  • Listen to a Top Fuel drag car get started- that's about the only thing that compares. Sweet music!

  • The 51 was the first fighter my dad ever worked on when he first got his assignment at LUKE AFB in Phoenix back in 1951. He loved working on the Mustangs and man were they fast.

  • awesome freaking sound and plane great video dude.

  • ok, gotta go change my pants now...thanks

  • second best plane in WW2 for sure

  • Very Nice!...and somewhat loud. But(t) NOT as bloody, gruesomely, noisy as me wife's 6 cyl.-1962 Chevy II Nova, when she jumps a curb (again) and rips asunder the muffler. When I can hear her return, from 8 blocks away, i KNOW what she's been up to!

  • @DrMMHMD - No! My father flew 30 missions with the 91st Bomb Group between Jan '45 and Apr '45. He saw one ME-262 get one B-17 in the low squadron, zoom up to the high squadron and get another, then dive to the middle squadron and get a third. Three B-17s in one pass. It's not bullshit. You try sitting in a thin-skinned bomber doing 160mph in formation while a jet with 4 - 30mm cannons flashes through the formation at 500+ mph with guns blazing.

  • Sounds like Steve's Merlin...Looks like Steve's Mustang!

  • Steve is the President of Planes of Fame, the Air Museum, in Chino, CA.

  • Steve was not killed in this plane. He was bably injured when the Red Baron crashed with him a number of years ago but fully recovered. I have personally flown with Steve in this plane. He's the guy who test flew Glacier Girl, the P 38 they took out from under the ic e in Greenland.

  • Steve was killed in this plane in 2009

  • @rockinar You must be thinking of the Red Tail from the Minnesota CAF that crashed a few years ago. That pilot was killed but kept the plane from hitting any houses along the way. That P 51 was rebuilt and has a full schedule of air shows for this summer.

  • somebody did a nice job with the sound recording!!

  • Just to set the record straight. The engine in the Mustang was a Packard V-1650, built with license from Rolls Royce. RR needed them because the RAF was putting them into Lancasters and Mosquitos and practically everything else that flew. Before the US entry into the war, RR asked Packard to be a supplier. The Mustang had the Allison V-1710 in it originally. The switch to the V-1650 added about 60 mph and less maintenance headaches. Thank God for Rolls Royce (and Packard)!

  • It sounds like an 8-bit remix.....

  • Aaahhh, now I know where they got the startup effects for the Star Wars podracers! :D

  • beautiful

  • I envy the men who went up in the air flying these the Mustangs and fought the Germans in WW2.

  • @alex30riv - My father flew B-17s in WWII and the bomber boys idolized the Mustang pilots. Had their butts saved on more than one occasion. On one mission, some Me-262s were working over the group ahead of my father's. He looked up through the window over his head and saw the glint of sunlight off of the wing tanks dropped by the P-51s. They fell on those 262s like a ton of bricks. And the jets wanted nothing to do with the Mustangs; they got the hell out of Dodge, but fast!

  • @alex30riv oh the most powerful plane at the war at the time and you envy the men? lol

  • @cut76 This aircraft is usless without "the men" . . .

  • @alex30riv its to bad lots of them died :,(

  • @alex30riv I respect them more than envy them!!

  • @alex30riv ..& don't forget the pilots who flew them in Korea..

  • @alex30riv i wouldn't say that....by the time the Mustang really starting seeing action, ,most of the German pilots were rookies....if the Fw-190D came sooner with the experience of the older pilots, the Germans would have gave the Mustang pilots a very hard time

  • @Brian79camino b4 you flame me for my last post im just kidding

but it is said that he who controls the sky controls the battle.

  • @hardwirecars that is true...thats why the Germans abandoned the invasion of England

  • @Brian79camino German pilots did like the Mustang. Especially the part were all the controls are in front of you. This is why the Mustang, D model, was so favorite by the USAAF.

  • actually sounds like a 1960's era dodge .the starting not the exhaust

  • anything with mustang in it is a beast the car the plane and maybe even the horse its all great

  • pure sex

a true joint allied effort...british engine in an american plane. nothing flies better, nothing shoots more accurately, and sure as hell NOTHING sounds better.

  • @LamboK28992 not quite true the spit fire was a better flying aircraft and lighter in weight more manoeuvrable

the mustang just had longer range.

  • @hbombharry lighter in weight and thus more prone to getting shot down because of lack of armoring

  • Ah, the Merlin. Good ole Rolls Royce. If I had the chance to drive any Rolls, it would have a P-51 around it.

  • @SuperJarrod13 well said

  • @NikitasGuitars Thanks.

  • @SuperJarrod13 I might go for the challenger 2 tank...but this is deffinatly sexy :)

  • @zkweis91 Really, who wants to drive A Rolls Royce that some old frumpy dude with too much money would be driving? Tank, classic fighter plane whatever.

  • @SuperJarrod13 You make me laugh, look up the challenger 2 tank and tell me old men drive it and its crap, then stare down it's 105mm cannon and tell the gunner of it, then when your in heaven tell God that, then when he sends you to hell tell the devil that...then see what happens.

  • @zkweis91 You either misunderstood what I said or you're going somewhere deep to left field. Maybe you should re read my comments, or not bother to comment at all. I'm not insulting the Challenger 2.

  • @SuperJarrod13 Are you implying that your comment was not at all insulting to the P-51 or Challenger 2?

  • @zkweis91 I don't need to imply anything. I know I'm not insulting the P-51 or the Challenger 2. I wouldn't insult the plane that pounded the Nazis back to Berlin. The Challenger 2 certainly hasn't done anything special,,,yet. Get those friendly fire incidents nder control and the Brits might have something. The Frumpy old man comment was regarding people's first thought when they hear the word Rolls Royce. People who might not realize that Roll Royce made one nasty V12 engine.

  • @SuperJarrod13 yeah. i thought it had a griffon engine though, late spitfires used the merlin.

  • @SuperJarrod13 Spitfire would be better :P

  • I want that Cam.

  • now i see where george lucas got some of his sound FXs

  • Wonder why no other mustangs sound like that when they start...as a matter of fact i dont think ive ever heard any 2 mustangs sound alike when they start xD

  • garbage audio quality

  • I had no idea the P-51 had startup issues like this.

I mean I've seen worse , such as trying to start a dodge in winter lol

  • Actually after the Battle of Midway the Japenese had lost the War and country that tries to take on North America and win are very wrong, but our Politicians must leave our fighting men alone and let them do what they do best without interferience then anny country that wants to mess with Canada and The united States should be afraid very afraid because the WILL get their asses kicked back to the stone age.

  • @1969captainron BTW...as for the A-bomb. I won't say whether I think it was for the best, or not (I'm not actually sure myself), but one should remember that if it WASN'T for the fact that this new thing existed that would wipe us ALL out if we got too belligerent, then there is no doubt at all that we would have fought a conventional WWIII, and it would have been even nastier than WWII. The nuke held(holds!) us in fear, but it is also alone responsible for the lack of any huge wars since WWII.

  • @1969captainron Well, the Japanese weren't thinking in terms of being fire-bombed from the air when they built those cities! It was the way they built cities for a long time. For decades, many Japanese believed that no enemy could touch the home-islands. The last time anyone tried, the Mongols (I think) were destroyed by a freak hurricane...the "Kamikaze", or "Divine Wind". Besides, Japans idea was to win a short, sweet war...they were done for as soon as they failed to win in the first months.

  • @justforever96 they knew their only chance was to take our carriers and battleships at pearl. they got the battle ships but lost the carriers. and they knew from their it was an uphill battle.

  • @highlo3517 Yeah, tactically the Japanese fought quite brilliantly (at first anyway), but they mis-judged strategically in thinking that the US would just give up. Of course, the US did sort of force them into war...the military Govn't that had taken power was all about becoming an "international player", and the US told them to go back to doing as they were told, "or else". We cut off their oil imports unless they got out of China, etc, so they had to choose between obeying and fighting.

  • I prefer the sound of a 4360... Still

  • omg ALLIES FTW

  • Damn straight!!! Get some, baby!!!

  • @1969captainron I'd agree that the atomic bomb would give America an edge, or more, but to compare a vast country like Russia with all of it's untold resources, oil reserves, mines, population, and retreat space (i.e. Napoleon, Hitler) to a tiny island nation running out of materials and packed into wooden cities ready to burn from the air is kind of pointless. So we could have pounded them into rubble with the atom bomb (which we had only a few of), and occupied a huge, radioactive mess? Why?

  • I just got a boner!!

  • @1969captainron LOL, you think the US Army could have just "rolled into Moscow" in 1945? Against the huge and effective army that just got done whuping 3/4 of the German army's asses and were just getting started? The Red Army was an excellent, AND huge force at the time the war ended...I won't say who I think would have won a war between the US and the USSR at that point, but I guarantee it would have been tougher than merely "Patton rolling to Moscow". Think T-34...Kursk...etc.

  • @1969captainron Stalin had it comming to him...

  • mustangs, and merlins are BAD ASS!!!!

  • merlins & griffons sound better than radials

  • Mustangs kick ass.

  • @1969captainron No doubt bout that.

  • Really...Val Bradbury....Belmont Shores.....GoGurrll... Really..Try and have a laugh..Got lipstick or soup?.

  • Good old RR merlin, has to be the best engine of WW2, just think of how many great planes is powered, spitfire, hurricane, Lancaster, mosquito and the mustang

Mustang was quite shit without the merlin but that doesn't matter anyway

  • that aint loud now the A-1 skyraider is loud.

  • fantastic sound

    warbirds-power.de

  • Wicked

  • @SuperBunkerbuster WHy mention that little fag???

  • @1bearcatf8f I agree with you dude. If you hate this moron so much why mention it?

  • @hellraised187 I never said i hate man i just said the A-1 skiyraider is twice as loud a P-51 is only really loud when its taking off.

  • @hellraised187 Done ask me ask the person who brought up that fag.

  • Sweet!!

  • jet s are awsome and shit but there is something bout a old war bird that just makes me smile. P-51 P-38 F-4-U P-40 ARE MY TOP FAV OLD WAR BIRDS

  • sound that make you happy :D

  • Man if my car had a startup like this and sounded like it... Nothing beats the roar of a Merlin in a Mustang

  • @Ollyoxenreebird

The Merlin was the best thing to happen to the mustang!

  • @Ollyoxenreebird i'd take a radial any day

  • @Ollyoxenreebird Its great, but the 109 diving down behind you would scare me more!

  • @Drainege True, but once the P-51 w/the Merlin entered the theatre, the tides quicky turned in favor of the USAAF. The 109 by that time was outdated and slightly inferior...which still says a lot considering the 109's were designed more than 10yrs prior. Two great planes none the less.

  • @Ollyoxenreebird There is one car known to have this sound; it's a drag '55 Chevy which goes by the name of Final Destination. It's powered by the same Rolls-Royce Merlin that powered the Mustang. There is a vid of it here somewhere

  • @Mechknight73 The car was made by an Aussie guy named Hadfield i think. used to own a hot rod shop an castlemane in victoria.

  • @rodbmw2002 I know the story behind it. The car cost him a fortune to build, but earned him a lot of business for his engineering shop

  • @Ollyoxenreebird hells ya!!

  • @Ollyoxenreebird maybe a Merlin in a Spitfire ;)

  • @Ollyoxenreebird nothing but a Pratt & Whitney R-2800 wasp engine in the P47!
