  • AT LAST!!!! - The Solution to the most common problem nobody likes to admit.

  • this video is very entertaining!, i will no go and practice on my white belt 3 grau (sp?)

  • The first, standard one is my favourite. It's old school and simple, did it at my Shotokan school in London.

  • Rener, you crack me up! The best part was when you said "twister...neutralization!" See you at the next fights. -Brian Peterson

  • I use a different variation, our karate sensi was pretty strict when it came to tying our belts as a kid and that method kind of stuck with me. Looks nice but it always takes a while to get the length of the tails just so. I can't find an example online but it started with coming around the back like the standard in the vid, making one side a few inches longer (about the size of the belt label) and lopping it back before wrapping the other end over and through the loop

  • Man this guy is awesome

  • Wow, 9 and a half minutes and the title is "How to Tie the Belt". Scary...

  • @soocl0se lol thats jiu jitsu, more information and details than you ever thought possible

  • "Even when I'm wearing a blue belt.. I'm still Rener Gracie"

    BOSS!

  • this guy could make a good instructor

  • @switchl12 Which is why he is one and does seminars all over the world haha :)

  • great video. clear & to the point. you showed great enthusiasm &charisma, two good tools needed when teaching. i really enjoyed it. good choice with the blue.

  • your enthusiasm is amazing. Keep it up.

  • Best video tutorial for belt prep EVER my friend!!!!

  • the blue does work better, thanks...

  • boom!

  • "We avoid this twister like we avoid Eddie Bravo's twister" LOL!

  • very well thought out video. ill be doing the superlock variation from now on.

  • I have a crucial question! So, my shoes laces won't stay tied. What can I do to tie 'em properly? Thanks

  • thats the way i show my students. its good to see that at im showing it properly

  • Nice I'm gonna try the super lock next class, thank you Mr. Gracie

  • Superlock

  • fuck this im going no gi

  • i was wondering how he could spend of 9 minutes on tying a belt, but now i know. havent had to wear one in a loooong time, going to stash this one away for reference. funny guy, seems like he would be cool to train under.

  • I do the super lock for Ju jutsu

  • I do the super lock for judo

  • Funny vid. I was entertained and educated at the same time.

  • Funny vid. I was entertained and educated at the same time.

  • haha what is this it has no name its too ugly

  • he can make anything interesting omg

  • Lol, 1:28, oh boy, you are funny, true but that's just funny in the video!

  • rener is the man

  • Can you do super lock from standard?

  • haha come closer..

  • avoid this twister like we avoid eddie bravo's twister hahahaha

  • "even when im using a blue belt, im still Rener Gracie" ahaha gangsterrr shit to end with.

  • thanks Sir! Super lock is awesome!

  • hilarious! :)

  • Man, even in videos just about tying the belt you guys have so much to teach. It would he AMAZING if I ever had the chance to ever train under you guys, even for a day.

  • Chest up ... and smile .... OR NOT ! Depending on day (not on Mondays :) ). Rener cracks me up, keep up the good work, I love watching your tutorials.

  • in 1993 our father created the belt to prevent his pants from falling down.. now that every bjj practitioner has added it to their arsenal ill be breaking it down so u can add it to urs

  • @2PacsUncle brilliant!!

  • AHAHAHAHAHAHA!

  • This guy is so sympathic and nice!!!!

Thankyou for letting me improve my belt - after 17 years of practising :D

  • The "Super Lock" looks very Kool!!! I have been using the standard til now. p.s. people I'm no expert, but your belt shouldn't be as tight that you can't breath while or after you have rolled.

  • I go standard variation for me, and superlock for my kid. Superlock is perfect for little kids

  • Rener, in standard variation you should put lower tail over the high tail - looks much more better (cause then booth tails are facing to the ground with angle 130-140 degrees between them), not like in your version, where they seem to be in a straight line or even facing little up

  • Nice touch at the end...the belt doesn't matter.

  • i gotta say, i love the super lock, but its hard to get undone when you've just finish a long session and really want that pressure of you abdomen, so i like the standard variation cos it doesnt really cause too many problems and you just pull it back down whenever you get a chance.

  • I like the look of the superlock knot, but it looks complicated (and I', fairly good with knot tying). I'll have to take the time ti learn it some day, but not sure if it'd be accepted in TKD due to traditions.

  • @KanzlerM

I found another video v=-g-OeBRDwt8 which makes it look easier...

he ties the standard traditional knot first and then tucks the ends under the outer layer.

I'm not sure it gives the exact same knot though (will hafta try it)

  • 4:35 - Twister Neutralization... I need to work on that.

This looks so easy when my kids do it, but doing it myself I get all... twisted.

  • @KanzlerM

When I went back and tried again I found out I was detwisting it by instinct from years of tying knots for sailing. It's easy once you learn it, but looks easier than it is until you practice a few times.

  • Rener i think you are just the best. Im always on youtube looking for different ways to learn the techniques of gracie jiu jitsu. I think i know enough to go against some real practitioners, even though ive never had a class. Im 15 and i believe that this just comes very natural to me.

  • I use the Hollywood but I believe I'm going to switch to the superlock.

  • Actually my crossover looks like one belt from any angle... You didnt manipulate the layers of it tks Tks tks Rener...

  • Nice, Thank You. Appreciate It. No One Could Teach Me.

  • Rener is a cool guy.

  • Boom!

  • Thanks. My first day of learning brazilian Ju-jitsu is today. I like the hollywood one.

  • funny dude

  • Rener you're crazy lol. Hes got that techniques for everything. Keeping it real. xD

  • "" What the heck is this? What do you call this? This has no name, 'cause it's so ugly. Kay. Don't ever do that."" LAwL

  • 1:27 What the FUCK is that?!

  • avoid this twister like we avoid Eddie Bravo's Twister !..thought it could use a 3rd

  • I love the final comment. "Even when I'm wearing a blue belt, I'm still Rener Gracie" is something too many in the martial arts world will never understand. Those going to black belt factories with that as their only goal are missing everything. On the street though, I'm sure 99.9% of the martial artists would trade their belt for Rener's skills.

  • He seems so cool and nice.

  • YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY Super KNOT!

  • Rener can make DVD about tying belt

  • i higly respect bjj trainees i am a black belt in tae kwon do and i was sparring with a black belt in bjj....when i got on the ground.....i got owned

  • I laughed so hard when he made the fucked up knot and said "what the heck is this?!" haha XD

  • @thatkindofguy234

This one's so ugly, it has no name

    :D

  • @thatkindofguy234 "this has no name, cause its so ugly"... LOL.... this dude is so funny.

  • @thatkindofguy234 bcs it is so ugly

  • MAEDA......not message...auto spell sucks......like ur mindset. Thanks rener. I learned something new. Plus I can look cool takin a pic wit my Go after I choke out a Judo guy.......lol........just yanking ur chain......lol

  • I haven't met any Brazilian or gracie taught who Acts like they invented it. I think ur discouraged cause after the throw u don't know how to finish bro.......I could be wrong but ur comment is disrespectful. I love judo, bjj, and life. We don't have time to argue about judo/ jiujitsu origin. Kano n Message would even tell u it roots Way before thier time. All arts are linked cause were all humans and learned from eachother and "evolved" with all arts through our cultures n styles.STOPHATIN!!!!!

  • what's "superlock"? y dont u leave it as it is, judo knot. what u call bjj or brazilian/gracie jiujitsu is an offshoot from Judo and u bullshit it and act like u created it.

freedom of speech.dont get mad now

  • @ojay67 examine your comment and then realize who is mad

  • Comment removed

  • "We wanna avoid this twister like we avoid Eddie Bravo's Twister." LMFAO!!!

  • Blue works well

  • Bravo! The color choice based on the visibility earns my thumb up!!!

  • Haha,he's hilarious

  • Did the superlock variation today and loved it. I showed a few classmates it and they dug it too!

  • " what the heck is this? what do u call this? this has no name cuz its so ugly " lmao

  • This is bad ass!

  • i want to join a bjj school but im very nervous about joining. any advice?

  • @561sage dont be nervous , go to the gym and have a lot of fun !

  • @Remy16121993 thanks

  • @561sage starting brazilian/Gracie jiu jitsu was the best choice i ever made, i just wish i did it sooner! i have a feeling you will feel the same way once you get out there and try it!

  • @clark987878 thank you, yea im trying to go, but right now i can't cause i had to lend my mom money but im trying to get in.

  • @561sage getting there and trying it is the hardest part!

  • @flippinmarilyn i know, haha. thanks. im gonna gather the courage and walk in this friday

  • thanks

  • Blue works much better for demonstration than black. Especially on a video screen, the shadows fall better on a blue belt so I can see what's going where.

    Thank you, Mr. Gracie!

  • 'What is this?.... Why would you do this?... This has no name, it's too ugly!' haha this guy is mad funny :P

  • Thank you... thats all I can say=]

  • @policeluigi I thought the same thing at first, but he has his details very well presented. He is a very effective teacher/presenter. All he had to say is "high tail over low tail" and I'll never tie my belt wrong again.

  • What the heck is this?!? What do you call this?? This has no name.....don't ever do this...

    Lesson learned..

  • standard variation? haha how stupid you are. standard is standard, no variation. maybe you meant "variant"?

  • It's amazing how Rener Gracie let the most simple things fun to watch ! ! ! Imagine having a class with him ! I'm from Brazil , Santos,SP and I wish I can to California to practice with Rener Gracie someday soon ! ! ! I

  • hahaha, hes so pissed at 1:29

not that im trying to dis him or anything, i was just scared for my life,

  • Now that's "keeping it real" and being humble, Rener using and wearing a blue belt for demonstration purposes!

  • Is it just me or dies the gracie logo look like the linkin park logo?

  • Man, you can do the standard variation without crossing.

  • @PeidoLord no.. you can't..

  • Avoid this twister like we avoid Eddie Bravo's Twister! ...- Nice Rener

  • i think he's black belt in tying belts

  • I dont care about the tie I am more interested in locking people into my submissions ;)

  • 3 people like the twister.

  • will you be my boyfriend?!

  • There's actually a video of Rener's uncle Relson demonstrating how he ties his belt. It's almost exactly like the "standard variation", but with one minor difference.

Also, Rener said that blue was Helio's favorite color, yet in another video he said that green was Carlos & Helio's favorite color, which is why the Gracie Academy mats are green. Yeah people can like more than one color. I like black, red, green, and blue. But only one of those is my favorite.

  • the one you call "Hollywood" is the one we use in Genbukan Ninpo ill ask sensei about the lock one next week

  • Does my ass look big in this belt?

  • You guys really are the best! Hollywood here we come!

  • Haha. That's what I always heard from my master. "The belt doesn't matter." Humbleness. That's what martial arts are all about. Oss.

  • The second way to tie the belt is like a magic trick.

  • best one iv ever watched finely after 3rs i can tie my belt right

  • This is epic!!!! Lol... A year and a half at my BJJ school, and I never tied my belt right. Not the "ugly way" as he put it. I only did it the standard way. Well!!! It will be either Hollywood or super-lock fa me. Mostly Hollywood. There are nice advantages of the belt coming off. ;0)

  • I don't know of Ryron or Rener ever actually rolling with Eddie, but I guess he appreciates the publicity. They're all fucking geniuses.

  • 3 people tied their belt correctly and did not become Rener Gracie.

  • Rener's just such an entertaining character

  • 1:18 "What the heck is THIS? What do you call this? This has no name, because it's so ugly! Don't EVER do that!" hahahaha XDDD

  • Whenever Rener speaks, I feel everything he says is quotable. Hah. He's SO good!! his passion just lifts up my spirits, too, and makes me feel welcomed instead of feeling intimidated by other Jiu-jitsu guys that are of higher rank which makes me not want to do Jiu-jitsu. This is why there is no other like the Gracie Family!!!

  • "Take a picture of this right here. That's Super Lock setup." Hahah

  • "We want to avoid this twister like we avoid Eddie Bravo's Twister." Haha

  • "Come a little closer to see how ugly this is." Haha

  • haha great video man it really helped, im a white and didnt want to show up to class looking like a moron.

  • :)

  • "What the heck is this? What do you call this? This has no name, cause it's so ugly."

    Hahahaha :)

  • Dankeschön Rener!

  • "Even when im wearing a blue belt, im still RENER GRACIE"

EPIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! thats the true, genuine, jiu jitsu spirit!

    talk about self-confidence!

  • @RaffyCarvalheira Dude, I know! I love it!! Haha. He can pull it off, though, and it's very funny. I was cracking up at the end. Man, I miss Rener and Ryron. They were the best instructorsI've ever had and best people I've ever known!

  • thanks very helpful

and if you have a short belt skip going round your waist and go straight to right over left from there hope this helpes :)

  • 1:29 is the amazing. hahahaha

  • i never thought tie a belt would be so difficult lol,but i'm trying to know by heart the last one.that was awesome.rener is so great.i really like him

  • I never thought that a 9 minute video of someone showing variations of how to tie the belt could be that classy. The ending alone was worth it. ;)

Btw., my cat loves you, Rener. Everytime I watch videos on YouTube and she's bored she comes by and watches, but whenever she hears your voice or catches a glimpse of you she jumps on the keyboard and paws the screen.

  • what the heck is this? what do you call this? this has no name, because its so ugly!

    1:28

  • Is this Rorion's kid? Rorion explains things in similar such detail. Very passionate and emotional about teaching.

  • @gaBehcuoDsuoitneterP Rorion's oldest.

  • ironically the only one I can to look really nice is the superlock, I have WAR kimonos ( gi material) belt and the first method just gets twisted even with the fold under (super thick belt).

  • Damn straighg up eddie bravo smack talk about his twister

  • The one thing this doesnt go over... what side should the black tip end (stripes side) up on...

  • just like royce going back to blue!!!

we miss you heilio, your always with us every time we roll!!!

  • a black belt only covers 2 inches of your ass, you have to cover the rest

  • What is this, it has no name because its so ugly. haha

  • I laughed soooo hard @ 1:28 HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!

  • Jui-jitsu, very cool. Worrying about your belT? Less so

  • @4Mobius jiu jitsu is VERY cool, idk what jui jitsu is though...

  • @JMoore4291 Jui-jitsu. The art of gentle supple yielding. Japanese martial art that was designed for combat

  • @4Mobius oh, well i'll just stick to my jiu jitsu then

  • that's cool that he said that it doesn't really matter. your belt only covers 2 inches of your ass lol

  • rener you are great! and yeah blue belt worked for me

  • Blue belt looks great as a tutorial on tying your belt. Purple may be a slightly better option because the color is slightly lighter, but not too light, so you can see the little details of the situation that's happening.

  • the blue belt does work much more effectively in showing people where all the folds etc go

  • I LOVE THIS GUY TO DEATH!!!!!!! SHOUT OUT TO EDDIE BRAVO

  • super lock is really worth the time! do it once and it will last for ever!

  • hahha the video stopped at 5:22 for me. such a funny face. rener is awesome

  • The black thing where stripes are put, it has to be on your left side?

  • when watching other how to tie belt tutorials that belts are black and that makes it difficult to see the knot....Thanks for providing this tutorial! Awesome!!!

  • Rener Gracie is my favorite Gracie :D

  • Sper lock is the best. I tried it and rolled with it for about 2 hours and not one did i have to stop and adjust or retie the belt as i normally would have had to do with the standard variation.

  • very nice u guys are the best! always very understandable tutorials

  • i really dont know if anyone needs a breakdown for that match i love eddie but the fight really wasnt anything out of the ordanary other than eddie subed royler

  • @eastcoastcroc

Royler was dominating him on points and got caught.

  • @scj760 thats what im saying would you have expected it to be any other way i love eddie but when it happened i thought if eddie was gona win he would have to be crafty and catch royler, royler is just sooo solid and technical and at that point almost unbeatable

  • Lol "the belt really doesn't matter", Love this guy.
