The entire article looks like linkbait to me. Just an intentionally inflammatory headline leading into nothing but fluff trying to justify it. It isn't even trying to tread new ground; I remember taking apart an article with essentially the same argument, I think last year? I couldn't imagine responding to this one with anything more than a raspberry. You have far more patience than I.
..I'm going to be making another post in a few hours (well, more like six hours or so). It's more important than any post I've made, and has fuck all to do with Twilight. I'm going to go all humanitarian up in here.
About the whole necrophilia and age thing... ummm... what about Buffy the Vampire Slayer? No one complained then. I know I would never want to date Edward, but only because he's an abusive asshole. But because he's a vampire? Again, Angel and Buffy.
@ladyparamour12 Wasn't particularly a fan of Angel and Buffy, but for other reasons. Thing is, whether being with a vampire qualifies as necrophilia depends on the mythos used. Buffy treated it as more of a curse on the living than causing the vampire to be undead. 'course, Meyer's attempt at creating a mythos doesn't feature undead traits, either, but the writer of the article described Edward as being such. What it boils down to, though, is if one of the two is undead, it's necrophilia.
"But watch a tender wedding night between a virginal, undead superhero and his teenage, human bride, and the scolds come out in force."
Since when was their wedding night tender?! The morning after they have sex, Bella wakes up with bruises all over her body! Definitely not my ideal wedding night. Anyways, TL;DR, this article sucks and so does the woman who wrote it.
@LilYoshiChan Well in Meyerland abuse must equal love. After all, Edward is constatnly verbally abusing Bella, and that Sam guy showed how much he loved his imprint by slashing up her face...so yeah if you are a sado-masochist it might be considered tender.
Jacob didn't fall in love with Renesme in any romantic way. He imprinted. She became the center of his universe. Sure that may change when shes older but there is no lust of any kind present at this point.
@potterinu All we have seen thus far in the books is that the werewolves are, one day, going to be boning their imprints. Claire is expected to one day marry Quil, and the same expectation is directed towards the Spawn. Making this even more disgusting is the fact that she will be seven when said boning occurs. Sure her body will be that of a teen, but she will actually have lived only seven years, with no life experiances to boot.
But, then again she is evil, so that might not be an issue.
@potterinu Yeah...no. Imprinting makes him "destined" to be her mate. And he and all the werewolves know it. As do, I believe, Bella and the meyerpires at that point.
To go one step further, most anti's that I've met only really get mad at the fans when they insult them in the way this article is doing. I couldn't give two fucks if someone likes the series, as that's their right. I do however get bothered when those same people turn around and start flinging insults at me and others like me because we don't share the same opinion.
I stopped reading that article as soon as I read "But the virulent seriousness of the haters is surprising." Uh, no it's not. If she had done her research properly, she would've known that the "hate" has been around since that book was first published.
My wife hates Twilight and feminists like the author. Twilight fans, feel no need to defend yourself for liking Twilight, but do not claim that it is high art. It is a low-brow sex fantasy. As plain as the text here. Equality=good.
@Shadowdancer21 lowbrow sex fantasy? Sex is not in the books until the fourth in the series. The first book would still be appropriate for preteens as young as 10. Lighthearted teen fluff would be more accurate in my opinion.
Please don't tell me this bitch calls herself a feminist.

I've let my logic skills deteriorate quite badly. Thank you for reminding me to brush up on them again. It's good hearing you again!

I'm sorry, Zax. This article is so inane and shallow that I can't stay long enough to hear your opinion on it bit by bit.

@jusk8lp No worries. I knew it would be a tad tl;tl going in. But I wasn't about to take it easy on this one.

The fact that I just got done with a logic class in college and understand the logical fallacies you are talking about delights me.
This chick certainly uses a lot of flowery language I'd say. Misandry and logical fallacies a plenty.
