Bought this film unseen. Money well spent. Caught a few things this time around... Lola has a pet tortoise, and she is a hare. The wall clock is forced beyond ornament with functional stickers - her world is real. Her obstacles begin in the home - don't they always? Walkway to apartment gate is divided with both paths leading to her absolute action outward. Then, divisions, choices,... And how was the hair color decided upon? A trademark for this fire cracker woman. Manni, do the right thing!
The animated man who comes in before Lola flips through her options says "Rien ne va plus," French for "No further bets" in Roulette! This elucidates all the gambling references! How interesting.
Is it just me, or can you hear a roulette ball going around as Lola tries to think of who to approach for the money? There's also a sound like the ball finding a pocket on the wheel just before the long shot of Papa, just as Lola settles on him.
So what does the animated man say at 2:40? He resembles the dealer at the casino, and he appears only once at this critical juncture, the point of departure in the movie. We'll see the receiver fall back on to the phone 2 other times. Also, the dominoes on TV seem to split into 3 paths as well, so the man's appearance here is significant. I find it curious that captioning fails to capture his dialogue!
