  • Hard to believe those ferry rides are still free.

  • @sjtom57 Why do they think charge so much to go over the Verrazano ?? LOL

  • Why does the speaker said : "The men AND women" women...??? do they have to be politically correct, even in this events..?. I'm pretty sure 'wimin' had a lot to do with the building of this ship. fucking politically correct World of today gives credit to everybody , even if women didn't contributed at all.

  • @KeMoniito She didn't actuly mention the builders, she said "Bless the Men and Women that sail on her", and I am sure many women will sail on it. But I see where your coming from, usually it is said "Bless all who sail in/on her".

Plus I am sure that the ship building company employes Women, so they contributed, even if indirectly.

  • So they leave the supports on, then they fall off once in the water? That doesn't scrape the hull?

  • SI chicks are like the SI Ferry because everyone gets a ride.

  • The comment about the bottle knocking the ship into the water is hilarious! haha!

  • does anyone know if there are people on the ship when it launches? shyt would be crazy when it hit the water

  • I thought they break the bottle of Champagne on the front of boats not the rear

  • @sackcheck it is broken on name

  • Now its Big Apple Two

  • I can't believe that a little bottle knocks a ship into the water. That person must be like super strong.

  • ohhhh i get it he tried to break the bottle but failed on his first attempt, ahhh.

  • Angelina from Jersey Shore

  • imagine if as soon as it released it fell the other way :P jk thats terrible and wouldnt happen

  • oli shh!t i tought it will gonna fail lol

  • it would have been cool to be on the ship during the launch

  • 0:28 *BING* YOUVE GOT FAIL

  • I thought it was gonna sink; lol

  • that's a failboat.. look it up on Wikipedia

  • Just curious. Does someone 'ride' it while launching or get on after launch?

  • daam it floats !!! hehehe

  • 0:46 Long cigarette :D

  • It's good to know in advance that it can handle some heaving listing :-)

  • i wish it sank

  • how funny would that be if it flipped right over and sank right there.

  • Leave it to New York, which (obviously) sits on the Atlantic ocean, to commission construction of a fleet of ferries in Wisconsin.

  • @DFDalton1962

We used to have great active shipbuilding facilities in NYC (e.g., Brooklyn Navy Yard), but we don't really have these things anymore--just repair facilities

  • there weren't crew on it were there? im just wondering...seasick mucho lol

  • Wow great Staten Island video...check out mine

  • Thats how I get out of bed

  • @fladave99 LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL!!!!!! still laughing!!

  • @fladave99 If someone smashed a bottle of champagne over my head, I'd get out of bed like that too.

  • Tan en pedo estos muchachos!!!!

Largar un barco asi al agua...

  • Why did they launch it that way? It could of sank.

  • Somewhere inside the ship on a lonely, Isolated table, The captains tea just spilled.

  • May god bless all the men and women who dare to sail on her indeed.. : |

  • scary.. i thought it would tumble.... whoa....

  • Is this new??? looks like a ferry from the 60's

  • you rock!!!!!!!!!

  • Khiếp !!!

  • it didtn break the first time thas bad luck

  • lol do they ever flip??? im still waiting on one too!

  • i met a girl on that ferry and got laid my first time riding on it to lol

  • @joshua1954 U SURE DID BUDDY

  • i saw this in real life, its amazing something like this can just be thrown around like that.

  • At 0:47. Is that guy with the cigarette Lemmy from Motörhead?

  • that ship looks ugly

  • Damn!!! That thing looked like it was gonna flip over!!!! LOL (O_o)

  • Is this what just crash recently?

Well, MADSEEN2009, you got your wish.

  • why is it orange?

  • wow that was pretty cool :-))

  • As along as stability calculation calculated properly and side launching calculation also calculated correctly the ship will be afloat safely except damage stability.

  • no it wasnt close thats how its done when u launch this shape of ships

  • that was closeee.....and the crowd sounds really funny! ahahahaah:D

  • That was closeeee!!! :D

  • i dont understand what is funny

  • ok its orange and ya point?

  • Americans are so patriotic for their country... Also could I ask why do the Americans launch their new ships like this and the British launch them a different way? The British way is better, the American way looks like they are going to tip over.

  • It depend on the water they are being launched into, since this is a narrow river, it has to be launched this way

  • Ahh I see, thanks!

  • Wouldn't be a very good boat if you were afraid to tip it.

  • Actually there are a few differente ways of launching a ship. This is just one of them, also done in britain.

  • Actually this is the dutch method of launching ship I believe, but its is ofter done by many other people, as in the video its being done by Americans. IMO, this way is MUCH more interesting than watching is slide backwards off the drydock

  • dude the boat is orange who wil paint his boat orange its ugly as hell

  • lol. it sinks and everyone turns around and walks home...

  • (reply to HaloCE14)

or build the ship in a drydock and then let it be flooded with water and let the water keep rising so eventually it makes the ship float. :)

  • relax not everyone is a structural engineer of some sort

  • I bet there were people in the crowd hoping it would sink :)

  • @UKPatriotsFan I'm not lying, i was hoping that :)

  • @Victor86MC lmao.. destruction is kinda fun to look at .. i mean if no ones hurt lol

  • @UKPatriotsFan werd lmao

  • @UKPatriotsFan I did :P

  • @UKPatriotsFan they where

  • @UKPatriotsFan well ye listen at 0:42 a giant sigh goes across the crowd

  • No, not all ships are launched like that. Just smaller ships that are built in shipyards where there isnt room for any other option.

  • what can a bottle of a good champagne do! :)) LOL

  • Wow! They dropped it like it was hot.

  • If a ship is badly built, it'll roll over anyway, even if you launch it perpendicularly. See "principessa jolanda" as an example.

Side launches are perfectly safe and take much less space to do, so long as the ship is built solid.

  • but it is the new way to launch a boat it is caluculated so it dosnt capsize althought you cant launch every ship like this it is the common practice with these smaller vessels for example if you lainched the QM2 like she would capsize but it shows how maritime moves with the times

  • that is accually the proper way to launch a ship its also alows the builders to test the strenght of the beam

  • Sweet jesus.. i would have payed a lot being on the ferry at that moment.

Think it would have been like an roler coster ride FTW

  • lol

  • i thought it would tip over

  • me too

  • who would have laughed ther ass off if it tiped over? i would have !

  • just another milion dollars at the bottom of the harbor! (if it did tip)

  • u mean fivehundred million

  • It looked like the boat was going to tip over

  • Very cool. Thanks!

  • nice video but bad angle :(

  • id love to be in side the comand center inside that ship when it wwent in the water!

  • Are you kidding me? I sure wouldn't - too close to Staten Island and New Jersey!

  • ok.. but one thing that was crazy just slideing it into the water

  • i'd looove to be at the stern when it hits the water hahaha

  • imagine they spent all that money and hard work and the ferry just fliped over N SANK!! down the dirty ass hudson

  • NOW how funny would that be!??! maybe somewhere happend

  • it happened in Italy !

  • @MADSEEN2009 the company that constructed this vessel is in marinette Wisconsin, on the border between WI and Michigan... not on the Hudson.

  • yay this was done on my birthday =)

-Much Love From The Sick Inc Boyz Of Staten Island and Vinny Reckless

  • How come we're not cool like the europeans...every time they launch their ships they blast their horns for like 10 mintues and pop champagne bottles!

  • didnt know they launched ships like that and too thought it was gonna tip! XD

  • god bless this boat..

  • I thought it was going to fall LMAO

  • lol

  • i love how they through the ship of at such a angle

does it through around the stuff in the ship

    messing it up

  • Why the HECK is it orange?

  • Don't know why they chose that color; all I can tell you is I grew up in NYC and Staten Island Ferryboats have been orange since I was a kid.

  • Blue and orange are NYC colors.

  • i didnt know throwing a ship into the water was a way to launch it lol thought it was gonna tip too

  • I sad that you don't read too much, the keel of the Spirit of America was made from the steel of the Twin Towers and is dedicated to the victims of 911. Go to Staten Island Ferry History and you will find it. This particular boat is guard must of the time for The Coast Guard sometimes they are in the boat and another time they escort the boat with their boats.

  • wow....well cool...looks like its gonna tip....excellent...

  • I red that this ferry boat were dedicated to the victims of 911 and also part of the metal of the world Trade Center was use to assembled this boat! U usually traveled in this boat every single weekend I love it

  • that would have been mad funy if it rolled over

  • I've been on the Ferry dozens of times.. and that's a first xD

  • gotta love Staten Island, eh?

  • side ways ship launches always scare me, i'm always afraid the thing will roll over lol

  • My sentiments, however trust the amount of maths put into it

  • hahaa, same here!

i watched one today, (only on youtube) and i was like, wtf?

  • my brother n law used to work there... pretty cool facility...

  • Marinette, WI? That's quite a trip it had to make to get to NY.

  • I'm from Marinette!

  • That's nuts how it looks so close to tipping over.

  • that would scare me shitless......it DID scare me i wouldnt want to be on that boat. i know they also use a lot of methods where they launch them lengthwise....that seems a whole lot easier.

  • it's hard to belive that there aren't many accidents with this method of launching

  • I agree man

  • What is that long haired guy in foreground smoking??

  • Lucky Strike

  • its bad luck to strike a bottle then it never broke in pieces i hope staten wont sink

  • I remember seeing a retired S.I. Ferry from the NJ Turnpike. Does anybody know something about this??????

  • i think it's a really old ferry so they meant

    to sink

     it

  • Holy shit that tilt was scary as hell.

  • the champagne bottle not breaking on first strike is bad luck..right?

  • Yes

  • wow...that was kinda scary when it fell in the water 0___0 it looked like it ws going to flip over...

  • che botta!

  • is this a bad launching ?

  • and god bless all the men and women who are too stupid to realize they are wasting 30 years of their fucking lives commuting to and from this shithole. Waking up at 5:30 in freezing weather, running to the train, running to the ferry, running to the subway, runnng to the office. Nice life. been 10 years since i left that shit hole. Good fucking riddance.

  • Did you ever appreciate the views?

  • Sounds fine. You could always stop off on your way home, To get mugged then shot.

  • I Left that shit-hole 4 years ago and moved to Jersey.

  • Marinette has a subway?

  • @sdcateacher Wow well yea I understand about the rushing to places but dude Manhattan is known for having fun going to restaurants and other entertainment. Just because you couldn't handle hard work doesn't make it the cities fault if you want to not have to rush and be able to drive a car to work then live on the island. What the hell do you expect anyway? its a city rushing is a lifestyle here, if you don't like it then get the fuck out. Good Day. =)

  • @sdcateacher Shut up, America is the best country EVER.

  • wouldve been awesomely cool to be on the boat DURING the launching tho XDD LOL! Hope they allow cars on again soon :/ those were always fun and romantic XD

  • I was hoping for a huge splash :/

anyhows, I love that boat ^-^ after years of riding from si to manhattan, I grew tired, this one sparked fun interest again, Makes me feel like a tourist XD

  • Interesting video!!! That's not something you see everyday.

  • god i for it was going to tip ! nice video

  • man i miss the staten island ferry, i lived 4 blocks from there.

  • Question: When they strike the ship with the bottle is that what makes it go in or is that just for show? I like the old JFK ferry much better.

  • Its just the ceremonial symbol to "let her go!!!"

  • for a sec i thought that the boat was going to go under lol

i'm from staten island and i do miss it from time to time. i may be visiting soon.

  • I was in Marinette, WI when they launched the U.S.C.G. cutter "Mackinaw." Very cold day...but worth it. She shot a wave across the river that drenched some people who were too close. Great fun!

  • Hey does it always flip like that....omg i would die if it did that and im thier..lol...lol..

  • Its so cool to watch the ships drop in the drink!!, ck out my other launchings, Russ

  • See I live on Staten Island. I love the ferry, people i other city's dont know what they're missin

  • Not necessarily. I'm from the Midwest, but I got out to NJ/NYC back in August. I rode the Staten Island Ferry. Greatest ride of my life!!!!!!!

  • What happened to the good old dry dock launch?

  • Someone may want to clear my route up, Youtube's limited comment character constraints really had me in a bind.

  • How did it get from Marinette Wisconsin to New York City?

  • Good question By the Great Lakes Waterway, then from Lake Erie through Buffalo into Lake Ontario where you access the St. Lawrence River which will lead you into the Atlantic Ocean, it took over 3 weeks.

  • it runs 24 hrs 7 days a week

  • shit almost flipped

  • Damn thing almost flipped over!!!
