Why does the speaker said : "The men AND women" women...??? do they have to be politically correct, even in this events..?. I'm pretty sure 'wimin' had a lot to do with the building of this ship. fucking politically correct World of today gives credit to everybody , even if women didn't contributed at all.
@KeMoniito She didn't actuly mention the builders, she said "Bless the Men and Women that sail on her", and I am sure many women will sail on it. But I see where your coming from, usually it is said "Bless all who sail in/on her".
Plus I am sure that the ship building company employes Women, so they contributed, even if indirectly.
We used to have great active shipbuilding facilities in NYC (e.g., Brooklyn Navy Yard), but we don't really have these things anymore--just repair facilities
As along as stability calculation calculated properly and side launching calculation also calculated correctly the ship will be afloat safely except damage stability.
Americans are so patriotic for their country... Also could I ask why do the Americans launch their new ships like this and the British launch them a different way? The British way is better, the American way looks like they are going to tip over.
Actually this is the dutch method of launching ship I believe, but its is ofter done by many other people, as in the video its being done by Americans. IMO, this way is MUCH more interesting than watching is slide backwards off the drydock
but it is the new way to launch a boat it is caluculated so it dosnt capsize althought you cant launch every ship like this it is the common practice with these smaller vessels for example if you lainched the QM2 like she would capsize but it shows how maritime moves with the times
I sad that you don't read too much, the keel of the Spirit of America was made from the steel of the Twin Towers and is dedicated to the victims of 911. Go to Staten Island Ferry History and you will find it. This particular boat is guard must of the time for The Coast Guard sometimes they are in the boat and another time they escort the boat with their boats.
I red that this ferry boat were dedicated to the victims of 911 and also part of the metal of the world Trade Center was use to assembled this boat! U usually traveled in this boat every single weekend I love it
that would scare me shitless......it DID scare me i wouldnt want to be on that boat. i know they also use a lot of methods where they launch them lengthwise....that seems a whole lot easier.
and god bless all the men and women who are too stupid to realize they are wasting 30 years of their fucking lives commuting to and from this shithole. Waking up at 5:30 in freezing weather, running to the train, running to the ferry, running to the subway, runnng to the office. Nice life. been 10 years since i left that shit hole. @sdcateacher Wow well yea I understand about the rushing to places but dude Manhattan is known for having fun going to restaurants and other entertainment. Just because you couldn't handle hard work doesn't make it the cities fault if you want to not have to rush and be able to drive a car to work then live on the island. What the hell do you expect anyway? its a city rushing is a lifestyle here, if you don't like it then get the fuck out. Good Day. =)
wouldve been awesomely cool to be on the boat DURING the launching tho XDD LOL! Hope they allow cars on again soon :/ those were always fun and romantic XD
anyhows, I love that boat ^-^ after years of riding from si to manhattan, I grew tired, this one sparked fun interest again, Makes me feel like a tourist XD
I was in Marinette, WI when they launched the U.S.C.G. cutter "Mackinaw." Very cold day...but worth it. She shot a wave across the river that drenched some people who were too close. Great fun!
Good question By the Great Lakes Waterway, then from Lake Erie through Buffalo into Lake Ontario where you access the St. Lawrence River which will lead you into the Atlantic Ocean, it took over 3 weeks.
Hard to believe those ferry rides are still free.

If a ship is badly built, it'll roll over anyway, even if you launch it perpendicularly. See "principessa jolanda" as an example.
Side launches are perfectly safe and take much less space to do, so long as the ship is built solid.
2ndOfficerCHL 2 years ago
but it is the new way to launch a boat it is caluculated so it dosnt capsize althought you cant launch every ship like this it is the common practice with these smaller vessels for example if you lainched the QM2 like she would capsize but it shows how maritime moves with the times
