If you can do at least one QSO every day you won't even notice your proficiency increasing until you hear someone going a lot slower than you and it dawns on you that you used to be that slow, HIHI.
My family is into container shipping business and my father showed me the radio room at his office which have that equipment (I think "Thrane" brand) But they were much larger and mounted on racks and the operators were using computers to run it instead of turning the dials etc.
It's called a key and a keyer. You have two paddles and if you hit one, the radio recognizes that as dits (and keeps making them) and the other one as da's. If you hold one paddle, you'll get a string of dits, the other one is da's, etc.
It would be impossible to use a straight key at this speed.
@csieb2011 Not impossible if you have had enough caffeine and sugar, though endurance and accuracy would be questionable. =D
Meanwhile an electronic keyer is not always necessary if you have a Vibroplex or some other spring-based key. Those are a lot more fun to plunk away with I think.

You know what I like about this rig? It has an analogue S-meter. I never did like the digital types.

@GMSamuelRhine I would estimate about 35wpm. It's a little fast for my ear and I am out of my comfort zone by about 25.
