@FoolyCoolyMabase When they did the planet-crack on Aegis VII, the virus was dormant in the planet because the Marker had the genetic codes for it written on it, so it was able to make it and control it. So when the people committed suicide and when they cracked the planet open, the Marker was awoken, and with it, the virus was as well.

See how the infector struggles with Isaac, trying to spike him up. When it finally hits, it probably would have difficulties planting the embryo inside Isaac's brain due to the helmet, so he overkills him (Overkill bonus +300 xD). And it would be super boring to see the infector just walk away -->overkill.

@megamanX676 The Infector's purpose is to infect or harvest dead bodies, not live prey. All they can do with a living, compliant host, no matter how willing they are, is kill it so they can transform the corpse into more necromorphs.
