yes this is a .50 cal and the army uses it today, its not a whole gun but a barrel/receiver system that can be switched out on the standard m4/m16, they are mainly used to stop insurgent vehicles at checkpoints, and the effective range is only about 150 ft if im not mistaking

.50 beowolf doesnt hurt. i shoot that same round out of a desert eagel and the worst id call it is a stiff push, but OOUCH! thats just a little dramatic there girls. now my .300 winmag with 180 or 200 grain, starts to hurt after about 10-15 rounds but its a bolt action with nothing to absorb recoil but your shoulder. Not that im baggin on ur gun, but there are better choices, all things being said, i wouldnt mind one in my collection.

@soundexperience1 - i hate to break it to you, but desert eagle doesnt make a .50 beowulf gun. its the .50 AE. in comparison, the .50 AE has muzzle energy around 1400 ft/lbs while a .50 Beowulf has an excess of 3100 ft/lbs. either youre a poser trying to act like you know what your doing or is clueless about what you shoot. btw - i shot my friends 300 Remington Ultra Mag so dont even go with your imaginary .300 win mag.

Look at 0:23, the caliber being used has a pistol round attached to a rifle cartridge. Its no different than a .45-70 style cartridge. You can't even get 500 yards with this style of round. A real .50 cal is chambered to a rifle round where you can get 1760 +yrds. Don't waist your money on this stuff. You can buy a .50 cal black powder probably cheaper ($200-$400), and it has the same efficiency as this for what is probably $1200. A good 50 cal rifle runs $5000, less if you make it.
