  • Lee Morgan is the man!! One of my favs of his is sidewinder!! bad as heck!

  • @stnd456 No Problem.

  • This jam rips!! The cry of jazz is all through it. Lee could swing with the best!! with Billy Higgins cookin in the pocket, Definitely a classic

  • my jam. favorite song from the search for the new land album

  • This rhythm sections killing.

  • Lee Morgan is definitely in the pantheon of the Jazz Giants! When something is an art it won't bring itself to you, you have to bring yourself to it. Other wise you won't understand the artistry or the complexities. This tune is the exception! It reached out and touch me!!

  • @Ronaldjevans AKA the 1960s Blue note all stars!! I love this album!!

  • some of morgan's finest this swings hard as bop

  • Mr. Kenyatta-Hilton Ruiz

  • He played on Blue Trane cd....

  • Can somebody please tell why this cat always played that brilliant? Cat was a genius.

Did he ever played with that other genius named John Coltrane??

  • @AbdullahShabazz

He had that rare combination of technical skill to match his fertile imagination, huge ears and BIG OLE SOUL.

  • Lee Morgan does this wah-kind of effect here and there on this song that just sounds cool, especially during his second solo, where he connects that effect. Also, it's weird, certain of Shorter's sounds, especially on this song, are different than anything else I have of his, with Miles, The Messengers, or his own stuff. But here it's cool because he begins the sound to answer back Lee's wah sound. Great stuff. Stuck n Lee lately - so different from Hub's smooth technique, varied and brash.

  • ...Grant Green!!!

  • Lee Morgan would have been proud of KMD.

  • Great to find a new setting in wich Grant Green played! I'm not a fan of trumpets, but Grant Green and Herbie Hancock are the best! So this is still worth buying!

  • i see you.

  • What a beautiful track!!!!!!!!!!

  • holy shit! i've got to have this on vinyl! i've been buying a lot of lee morgan lp's lately. great stuff! what an awesome line-up!

  • I'm excited for everybody to discover my favorite trumpeter. Could somebody please post "Morgan The Pirate" from this album?

  • Hey all. I'm a trumpet player and I was just wondering if anyone knows how the heck Lee Morgan does that cool-sounding tonguing trick? It appears from 1:50-1:52 and also at 2:07-2:10. I REALLY want to learn how to do this so please help! I transcribed his entire solo on this song already (both first and second) and that's the only part I can't do. Thanks in advance!

  • its half-valved notes - quarter tones below the desired tone, played by pressing the fingering not fully all the way down.

gj on your work! keep on rocking!

  • Dj Subroc sampled this for the song Contact Blitt by KMD.

  • I've heard 2:20 - 2:25 being looped in a hip hop song, can't remember what it was though

  • Gentlemen, there's no accounting for taste. Everyone back then was raving about "Search for the New Land" when this was the electrifying track, one of the best 10 from the glorious Blue Note 60's.

  • Personnel on this fabulous 1964 album of Lee Morgan compositions: Lee Morgan (Trumpet), Wayne Shorter (Tenor Sax), Grant Green (Guitar), Herbie Hancock (Piano), Reggie Workman (Bass), Billy Higgins (Drums).

  • It was through this track that I came to love the music of Wayne Shorter and Grant Green!

  • This is a plea to who every posted this to please post the track SEACH FOR THE NEW LAND.

    Hafeez

  • P.I.M.P.

  • Lee Morgan is a mthrf#$%in' PIMP!!!!

  • All jazz has structure except for the most avant garde, this piece is VERY structured. The amount of improvisation here is pretty standard for a small group jazz. This piece does not distinguish itself in the ways you mentioned. What I think you like about it is the mood and the fact that it's melodic. BTW, smooth jazz is not jazz.

  • Blackplatano- I dont agree with everything you commented partly because Im not sure what your responding to however I gave you a thumbs up for saying something bad about "smooth jazz" :] The quality of the improvisation here is outstanding of course the AMOUNT is standard Each artist has a structured amount of time (12-24 bars) to do their thing but what this group did with this tune is not standard but outstanding MORGAN was 1 of the GENIUSES when he wasn't strung out
