If one looks closely it's stunning how much of the original Roman traditions Christianity has retained. So I wouldn't call it "psychotic". I work in a maximum security psychiatric hospital and treat people with major mental illnesses. I find it fascinating that the tool in which we use to diagnose, the DSM IV, defines delusional disorder very clearly, and religious beliefs meet all of the criteria except for one. The exception is (basically) if the belief is shared by others in their community or culture. This is absurd because many sick people in our society go undiagnosed as a result.

Thank you very much for your input. I am not a neurologist but I know we create thoughts with our brains & those brains which malfunction can't tell fantasy from reality & this fits those folks with deep faith, specially the well educated ones who ought to know better.

I believe the reason of this is 1700 years of Christian distortions & mental conditioning. Amazing.
