Thanks for this! I am going to use this for my university project! Make a cut at one end of a bridge then another at the other end to give it the illusion that the bridge is "growing"! 5 Star!
i've bought your google sketchup for dummies book and expected a CD tutorial came along it.i was so frustrated when there was no CD tutorial..i think it should came with a CD since the reason why i bought it is just because this youtube tutorial is so interesting..i'm too lazy to download it..anyway,great tutorial aidan...
To do this, make the staircase its own group (or component), then create a section plane while "inside" that group. It will only affect the geometry inside the group.
thats great but is it possible to resize the section plane so that it doesnt affect the whole 'extents' of the model. i.e can you just animate sections of a staircase within an existing model ?
I guess I meant that it took me two years to figure out how to do it properly -- believe it or not, lots of people struggle with this concept. I'm glad you didn't : )
SketchUp has been available since about 2000. It was developed by a company called @Last Software, which was acquired by Google in March of 2006. I started using it around 2003, when I was still in architecture school.
