  • It's the first time I hear this song and my heart stopped, its beautiful. Thanks for posting this!

  • goosebumps.

  • Comment removed

  • I so agree!

  • I would call myself the proudest person in the world if I had written those wonderful lyrics:)

  • 'I LOVE' 'You' 'Adam' and 'I want' 'Everything' with you' '2' 'Your Darling' and 'Queen' XXX

  • shhhhhh...

  • Thumbs Up if you were there too! : -)

  • Who is this "Maria" he frequently speaks of?

  • @justfornow14 nobody really knows for sure. Adam insists she is a metaphor for himself though.

  • @SorryTwentyTwo Ah, that's interesting...thanks!

  • oh please, stop bitching about the crowd! at least they are at the show, supporting the band they love. who cares if they make some noise? I'll bet Adam doesn't mind one bit. fucking you-tube, everyone so mad at everyone else! SUCK IT!

  • @blastbeeeetz shutup dumbfuck. the crowd is annoying and drunk.

  • Also, the screamers in the background totally don't bother me. I hear nothing but his mesmerizing voice and that elegant piano.

  • Seriously cannot stop listening to this song. It's so beautiful, so raw.. <3

  • Counting Crows, and this song, are absolutely incredible! The crowd noises don't bother me at all. They used to when I was young and impatient. But now I hear the exuberance and the joy of appreciation of an exquisite song and a talented group of musicians. I feel like I am there at the concert, stealing a "moment" with the band and the crowd. Yeah, that's what "Playhouse71" said in a post a month ago...immediacy and intimacy.

  • You look into her eyes and it's more than your heart will allow.

  • Crowd's really like to here the names of places.

  • Anyone complaining about crowd noise in a live recording that hasn't been professional remixed from a soundboard recording doesn't get the point and the magic of bootlegs. I'd love to have a studio or remixed recording of the song, sure, but the crowd noise adds to the immediacy and intimacy of the setting and the performance. This is actually a pretty good, clear recording.

  • @Playhouse76

It's a pretty good, clear recording of Adam's singing, but as far as live recordings go generally, the crowd is louder here than in a lot of the recordings I've heard of Counting Crows.

But there's a reason why: If I'm not mistaken, this is the first time "August and Everything After" (the song) was played live. EVER. That's a really big deal, and goes a long way to explaining why the crowd was so raucous. People waited *years* to hear this song. They had a right to go nuts.

  • @bhartman36 yes it was the first time ever :-)

  • So what you're saying is that when I'm at a show I should sit on my hands in mute silence so you homebound youtube listeners can hear an undisturbed version of a song you seem to enjoy? The band, every band feeds off the energy of the crowd. It energizes them thereby giving the paying crowd (not you) a better performance.

You want a quiet live video, go check out some high opera.

  • @lobeycat actually no, some people want to enjoy live shows to hear the band sing, not people screaming in your rear.

  • There is a recording of this song. I have it. I will upload it for you guys. I honestly don't know where I got it from but I didn't realise how rare it was when I heard people talking about it. I'll upload it now.

  • 'Thank You' '4' this 'Beautiful' 'Music' 'Lyrics'. 'I Love You Adam'. 'Your Darling and Queen'. XXX

  • hahahahaha to the stupid ignorant fat ( cos she will be fat ) bitch at 2:18 getting a happy birthday shoutout MASSIVE FAIL . Dick .

  • fuckin Yanks , they'd woop at the opening of somones front door them fucko's !!

  • This song is pretty much the only thing getting me through the miserable week I'm having.

  • Counting crows is a more lyrics oriented band....true fans of counting crows would either sing along or listen to the words....this crowd seems to be at the wrong concert...

  • @behwal I was there and I was really disgusted at the crowd during this song, b/c I don't think most of them realized what was going on... but no one could sing along b/c this was the first time it was ever played :-) But yeah, I hear ya and agree.

  • @behwal I was there and I was really disgusted at the crowd during this song, b/c I don't think most of them realized what was going on... but no one could sing along b/c this was the first time it was ever played :-) But yeah, I hear ya and agree. But during the rest of the night it was actually really amazing and everyone sang along with every other song

  • @studioregency Man i had forgotten all about this song.. until you replied to my comment... and now i am back here and cant stop listening to it...great song...

  • of course the crowd ruins the only recording of an awesome song . . .

  • For anyone who wants the mp3 of this song:

There's a 160-192kbps mp3 of the San Fransisco 2004 performance on soundike. Google "hanginaround uk cd soundike", go to first link. Third song on this cd is August and Everything After, press buy. All you have to do is register with an e-mail adress because you get 0.30$ free credit upon registration and it costs 0.15$. Then..press download. Voila.

As an added bonus, the 2004 version doesn't have an annoying crowd ruining the song.

  • @peterukk I can't see how the crowd is annoying. They sound like they love CC..just like us all. Next time you see them live, keep your f-ing mouth shut so we can hear it..oh yeah..only applies to others. What a douche. I cannot help to react vocally at each concert. But hey..you sure sound smart with all you're kbp mp3 jargon. Go get some friends and put the electronics aside.

  • @dad2ally

Oh wow, what cunt did I stumple upon here. Are you a loud obnoxious douche yourself perhaps? Maybe you were even in the crowd?

Hey you miserable twat, lots of people were asking of an mp3 of this song and after about of 30 minutes of looking I finally found one so I thought I'd you know, be a nice human being and tell others...I can see how that concept of being something else than a complete douchebag might be strange to you, though. Lol, you fucking oddball loser.

  • I actually really love the crowd in this. You can sense their enthusiasm at hearing this for the first time. Especially when he sings "August and Everything After" for the first time. They sound so excited and we all would be too.

  • I have all their albums. They are an amazing and wonderful band. I usually listen to Obituary and Napalm death, but when I put Counting Crows in, I seem to find my soul. Thank you for everything you guys have ever done.

  • to those of you who are getting annoyed by the crowd if you put 'August and Everything After' in youtube the second one down is a lot better quality

  • What did you play this at a high school party where everyone is stoned and drunk? Why the fuck would they scream over shit like this? LOL

  • @JedsStevenson Did he***

  • You Guys are the Most Honest Band I've Ever Heard. I Wish More Bands Were More Like You. You Guys are the BEST, and Should Deserve the BEST.

  • the best part is from 0:00 to 7:50

  • @Kathi435 you know you see those comments about "this song sux after [endtime]" ? well... i actually kinda got sad that it ended like that @ 7:51

  • Unbelievable performance..." I'm geting older, and older, and older and always a little bit further out.....of....the....way"

  • I think they didn't release this song because it is basically Bob Dylan's "Just Like Tom Thumb's Blues" except slowed down with different lyrics.

  • Great song, great songwriter

  • As much as I'd love to have a studio version of this, I think the rawness of the song would be lost. And the mysterious feeling about this song would just go away if it were just released to us. I like the idea of him just playing it spaced out between years once or twice then just releasing a studio version of it to us. I just feel the rawness and the emotion of the song could be lost in the studio. But thats just me. What a brilliant song.

  • @countingcrows123 You'll never lose this version, though. Was it ever actually recorded back during the album sessions?

  • @runnersdialzero333 this is true.. i actually really want a studio version now lol. and no, i dont think he ever ended up getting a complete version.. on the new dvd he said that he kept trying to do it but he sucked at piano and there wasnt good editing then so he had to get it in one take and he couldnt do it.. so they ended up doing raining in baltimore instead

  • @countingcrows123 ah, i figured the two were kind of cut from the same cloth just based on how they sound. thanks for the info :)

  • this is the best song like ever :D counting crows absolute legends n greatly underappreciated in ireland its horrible more people should know great music like this :)

  • i love this recording... why? A lot of my friends are in the audience.. its funny to pick out their screams and cries.

  • one of the best bands ever, but their live songs dont half suck ass. this ones actually pretty good, but that version of round here that was on the special edition album a few years back was awful

  • there's a version here without the damn obnoxius crowd (the link of the video actually appears on the related videos side bar :S).

this thing don't let me put the link (don't know how the thing works) but it's labaled: "August and Everything After (San Francisco, 2004)"

  • ive never herd this..sounds good!!!

  • One of the greatest musical pieces ever.....love it!!!

  • You can always download songs directly from YouTube using third-party software if need be.

Also, I have another alternative version of this song played live if anyone wants it. He makes several mistakes, but I still enjoy it even more than this version. Better audio on the other version too.

I love this song so very much.

  • I want to find it too! I can't find it.

  • You got this track from me. Give it up. I found you, and I know where you live. :-)

    Decatur, Right??

  • Kelley babe

  • Jesus Christ; those people don't deserve to be at that concert. They should fucking yell and clap when a song FINISHES. This song is so amazing; I wish they'd put in on the album. August and Everything After is my favourite album of all time.

  • Anyone suffering from depression should consider attending a Counting Crows show. For one hour and whatever minutes you really do forget about yourself, the world, and the crowd around you and just feel joy and awe. At least that's how its always been for me and I've seen them 6times and met Adam 3 of those times.

  • Wow wojtek

    obvious troll is obvious

  • (Wow, he said "midnight in san francisco" and this is san francisco and it is midnight..."whooooow!") Fucking douche bags!

  • @wojtek0000 I was there and the yelling bothered me... but actually THAT part... when he said "it's midnight in San Francisco" and it really WAS midnight in San Francisco and I'd waited 10 years to hear that song... it was magical :-)

  • Only Americans are so stupid to scream and fuck up an artistic performance. You wouldn't scream inside a museum when looking at a Van Gogh. Morons!

  • Absolutely beautiful. Wish they'd made a decent recording of it though. That's Adam for ya.

  • true but the live sound makes it sound more real, no touch ups 100% real

  • better version on the she dont want nobody near single...!

  • wish people in the background werent so friggin loud...

  • Music keeps me alive, somedays it all I can do to have even the smallest desire to get out of bed. Counting crows I have always believed is a band given to much credit without being understood, they are an amazing band, but not for reasons people give them. The audience should be silent and taking in what adam is singing and trying to say, to me this song almost sounds like an apology to himself, but it is his song, and Adam Duritz is one of the most truthful songwriters I have ever heard,

  • @Harpboy4 Totally agree hands down.

  • i wish they would have put this on the album, ..... crowd's annoying.....

  • this song makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end

  • I'm more than blessed and fortunate. I got to hang with him in his parents basement with some friends and actually play 'Trivial Pursuit !' Then he proceeded to Wow us all, espescially the young ladies, with a few solo piano tunes. Talk about surreal !! Can't say enough about Adam and Dave and the band, and how they have managed to seemingly roll through the years without missing , I guess you can say a beat, but they are so different than anyone else ! Unique !

  • I will say this, this song is amazing and if it weren't for the damn obnoxious crowd, it would've been even better.

I wish they would record a studio version of this song, or a version where the crowd is somewhat respectful.

If you were one of the assholes in the crowd screaming every five seconds, congratulations. You have ruined possibly the only recording of this song.

  • there are two recorded versions...

  • Do you know where to find the other one??

  • look at the video response.

  • @billyjoet99

    I agree. Fucking morons!

  • @billyjoet99 how the hell is the crowd obnoxious or assholes? This song is great and I wish they recorded a studio version too, but the crowd was enjoying the song. They had the privilege to hear this song first, and they cherished it. I would have done the same. Plus, this was almost 10 years after August and Everything After, so it's good to hear them plug the album, because most CC fans like that album best.

  • @mohammad5 I totally agree. hearing the crowd's response to the lyrics that he sings is incredible....the emotion felt and obtained from someones work is awesome-especially since they are obviously wanting to share it with whomever will listen!

  • @billyjoet99 I think you made this comment out of anger and disappointment that there is no studio version, and the live version was "ruined" by the crowd. I feel your pain man, but no reason to get hard on the crowd. They were enjoying the song, and it was CC's decision not to put the song on the album. As a fan, I respect the choice, and I'm going to appreciate whatever material they've given me when it comes to this song. I'm sure CC would have wanted the crowd to enjoy it too.

  • @billyjoet99 You nailed it boss ! That crowd was annoying the crap out of me !

  • @billyjoet99 I was THERE, and I was PISSED at the TIME and all the aholes yelling over him! :-)

  • You can get the mp3 at AnnaBegins. com

  • @billyjoet99 Don't blame the crowd. It's not their fault someone was recording from Within the crowd. Beautiful song though.

  • @billyjoet99 why are you mad at the crowd? theyre obviously enjoying the music, crowds yell. it happens.

  • @billyjoet99 : well said. freaking idiots.

  • @billyjoet99 I agree...it's the only version I can find. And it's my very favorite CC song! Damnit lol

  • @rachelm10100 see the video response for a better version

  • @billyjoet99 "It was a concert. That's what people do at concerts. We're sorry you couldn't make it." Sincerely, Those who don't live life through the lives of others, vicariously, on youtube.

  • Absolutely amazing! love it.. SO GOOD. Counting Crows for sure hit their peak right around 1999.. wish all of the material was as good post Recovering the Satellites.

  • Hard Candy and Saturday Nights and Sunday Mornings were brilliant, they just slipped up a little.

  • I loved seeing them live. I want to go see them again.

  • fucking masterpiece.

  • if you're trying to avoid love, then yes, love love love... fuckimg masterpiece...

  • I love how

chn3141 calls this song the holy grail,

BRILLIANT!!! love this song, wish it was everywhere

  • Goddamnit people don't know how to shut the fuck up!

  • totally agree

  • The Crows are simply amazing. I agree with 1971, you could never grow tired of them. Love 'em to bits

  • pls pls

  • Well, there is this thing, it's called torrenting.

    Google it.

  • amazing song ...

  • This song has changed my life.

  • AAEA is their best album, hands down, ever. I wish this song had been on the album. It's amazing.

  • It would have been awesome, but personally I think this is a song that never will be and should never be recorded in the studio. If it wasn't just Adam playing.... I don't know what I would do.

  • The crowd is a little to into this...

Big CC fan, early on, but I've grown tired of them... though AAEA remains one my favorite albums of all-time.

  • I can't imagine ever growing tired of them....get your CC albums or tapes or CD's back out and listen again..maybe it will rekindle your love for them :)

  • This song is absolutely amazing. It hits you very strongly with emotion. The lyrics are just outstanding. Its unbelievable that someone can write a song soooo well.

  • my name is August my coach in P.E. told me to listen to this because evertime he says or hears my name he thinks of this song.

  • theguitarhero649,

Tell your coach they are one cool person! =)

  • Hands down, one of there most amazing songs.

  • Brilliant.

  • freaking audience...

  • The audience are a bit rowdy.

  • i have that cd and dont have this song here and it definately should be on it

  • this song had never been on a cd for a lot of different reasons...they only had played it live a few times.

  • thats the thing , if you have all the crows cds like me you dont have all the crows songs, i think they have over 20 unreleased songs

  • what a beautiful song just put me in a great mood to hear the crows

  • wow i think this song may of changed my life, along with the pink pop 2008 version of round here. man these guys realy know how to play

  • thetrafficcones123,

"wow i think this song may of changed my life"

That is perhaps the coolest thing I have ever read on youtube. The counting crows changed my life when I was growing up.

  • it is beyond me why this song didn't make the record. it is superior to a few songs actually on the thing.

  • I really want to get this song on my mp3 but i cant find it anywhere but here . this suckssssssss

  • Click the link, go to Rare/Unreleased and you'll find this version.

  • there is a way to copy audio files off you tube, If you google it (get music off utube) someone should outlay the steps to get it. If not hit me back and Ill see what I can do. (For The love of music and all its power.) thats all. good luck.

  • @acid43 I believe this song is available as a b-side on one of Counting Crows's single releases. Check amazon or google it on t he web my friend.

  • @acid43 Just enjoy it on here and don't buy anymore crap than you absolutely need to.

  • I noticed the lyrics on the cover, and wondered if it was a missing song or maybe just a poem. Now I know. Thanks for posting it.

  • Wow, that´s really fucking great. Never heard it before.

  • I've just started to love Counting Crows.

  • I have a live version of the song on a cd single of accidently in love! It was the first time i even knew this song existed and adam says it was only the third time he played the song in his entire life!!!! Round here is by far the greatest song ever written...... by far

  • yeah i heard the same version on hangin' around single, i assume it from san fransisco as when he mentions it the crowd cheers.

  • Wish they would put this one out on a cd. It's kind of cool I never noticed the lyrics for this are on the cover... Thanks for posting it.

  • Thank u again for August...the most beautiful...I a in Vegas and wide awake again...

  • thank u for august

  • Legendary song. Have they ever played it since then? This is the only version i've heard. Awesome song, awesome band.

  • they didn't put this on the album because they lost the music and lyrics for it for ten years.

this recording was done at the first show they ever played it at. this audience contained the first people to ever hear this song.

  • It wasn't lost, instead it was a conscious choice not to put the song on the album. And to not play the song in concert til that fateful day of 12/12/03 but it wasn't until someone asked him about lyrics that came from a demo tape on 11/18. He neither confirmed nor denied this claim till 12/08 someone gave him a copy of the demo. Four days later, the holy grail of Counting Crows had been revealed.

  • why is 12/12/03 a fateful day??

  • It was the first time they played the song to the public.

  • Thanks for posting this. I bought a 2 cd set on ebay about 4-5 years ago from overseas that had this entire live show on it. I no longer have the cd's and am desperately looking for them again. If I recall correctly this show was at the Warfield in San Francisco, Ca.

  • @doriangreyjr they did play it live once or twice before august came out.. BUT this is the only ever live recording. This was left off on purpose by the producer since Adam kept screwing it up. During a break Adam recorded Raining in Balitmore for Bonnie Rait, and the producer decided to put that song on the album instead, since this song was too long.

  • it would have been a shame to die and never to have heard this album....thank god i discovered them at last

  • agree

  • still one of the best albums i've heard...thanks to life for the artists !

  • Cassiesperry .Who me or the album??

  • you just made my boyfriend soooo happy

  • This album blew me away the very first time i heard it (1993) and still blows me away today (2008).

  • "you look into her eyes and it's more than your heart will allow"

Adam Duritz is a god damn song writing genius. god bless the Counting Crows.

  • They should have put this song on the album. I wonder why they didn't?

  • this is beautiful...damn, i know all the CC songs by heart...NEVER heard this one before and it sooooooooooooooooooooooo one of their best! its not on their deluxe edition? damn

  • OH MAN YESSSS!!!!!! Thank god someone has this song recorded. Can you torrent this? Please :)

    Regards,

    a Diehard CC fan.

  • Most people ask this, so I will put up a link in the info section.

  • is there a place i can get this recorded in good quality?

  • There's a site called Lisa's Counting Crows Shrine that has this song in lo and hi qualities, but I believe this is the hi one. Been looking for years but haven't been able to find a version that A> wasn't live, or B> had less crowd interjections. :/

  • man im sooo happy I got this song on my ipod

  • From where?

  • I was hoping they would put a studio recording off this on the re release of August. Too bad they didn't.

  • i remember reading the cd jacket of their debut cd and i'm almost positive that they mention it on the cd and who wrote the song and whatnot...and i remember thinking why the hell isn't the song on the cd if they have info of it being on the cd....kinda wierd that the song existed but the song wasn't on the album even though that was the title of said cd

  • i'm italian...they're not famouse here but i think they are the best band in the world!!

  • It's very possible that this has become my favorite song of all time

  • This song was well worth the wait to finally hear... thanks for posting it!

  • great, great song!

  • Counting Crows in my opinion is the best band of all time. I can't stop replaying this and Black and Blue.

  • I share that opinion with you

  • I can't stop listening to this.

  • This song is an example of how truly great an album that was...if this song gets left off, wow!! I dont know how many times I have listened to it, but it will never grow old.

  • i'd really like to hear a studio version of this. too bad its not on any released CD's

  • I always thought it was weird that the song the album was named for wasn't actually on the album. I'm so glad to hear it :)
