  • I remember this on the tv, A good advert for a terrible car. Rust came through on the bodywork, the paint on the rear window rusted through the carpet molted strands of fiber like a dog and the deferential crown wheel cracked in half bursting the case. How we wished we had never seen the bloody advert.

  • 6:21 is it just me or does that look like a rust spot on the door?

  • @732lover yes, thats rust :(

  • @mikeluscher159 Why am I not surprised? LOL

  • at the end british car industry drove over the cliff

  • this is a great set of videos x 3 love it !!

  • why didn't that ad also include the Americans with the Ford Fiesta? yes, it may be built in spain but that is an AMERICAN nameplate

  • Comment removed

  • Never mind the Germans, Japanese, Italians or French invaders, it was the Spanish built American owned fiesta that really hammered the metro. What fords are built here now GM and Ford motor Co. have killed our only volume producer. Who were the biggest importers in the 70's and 80's?

  • No more british car industry :(

  • The metro kept me employed throught the 80's 90's and into the 21st century, welding sills, front panels and crossmembers, inner sills floor, back subframe mountings, back panel, back swinging arm bushes, hydroelastic units engines, gearboxes. there wasn't a thing that didn't go knackered. kept me employed not a bad word to say, unlike those pesky micras, civics and starlets that never broke down

  • These vids are brilliant, thanks a lot for the effort

  • In the Netherlands the Metro was too expensive. For the same money you could buy a solid VW Polo, a reliable Toyota Starlet or a modern Ford Fiesta.

  • I think the Metro was a very well designed car, stylistically, well proportioned and nicely detailed... Pity the arcaic mechanicals, occasional quality issues and rust spoiled what could have been a start of good things for BL/AR...

  • @fiddleydiddley You LIKE MK1 Metro's bloody hell you are easy pleased. They drove awful, They were unreliable, The build quality was shocking, I am sure they made them out of pressed rotten cabbage leaves. They were unsafe in a crash,OK they were not bad of fuel I will give you that one. My dad bought a Brand new one in 1980. By 1983 it was COVERED in rust. He started buying VW's after that.. I can't say I blame him. I still think it was a crying shame that they folded. BUT There cars were poor.

  • great videos love the metro have owned 14 still got an early 82 built mg metro turbo and an early mk2 turbo!!!!

  • I like it! But did they actually try to replace the legendary Mini whith the Metro !? By the way, i love your video's! :-)

  • This is cool! Feels so british!

  • Im not a limy but it must be sad to see your automobile industry go down the craphole its a shame becuse english cars were the best austins gone british laylands gone bmc has gone landrovers are built by vapid now and jaguar has gone but the E type was built by windsor for a while limeys are driving imports now

  • Yip, very sad, a loss that is continuing throughout every sector of manufacturing and industry. Caused partly by a complacent and thick as fcuk government and party through that unique british arrogance and self deprocation... sad and frustrating

  • @discocreator76 This car was designed in an era when the British buyer was starting to think "Hang on I am not buying this pile of junk just because it is British I have a choice as a consumer" For SO long they thought they could get away with making pap cars like the Allegro and Maxi and people would just keep buying them because they were British.HOW WRONG WERE THEY. It was simply Years of lack of investment and poor built cars that finally killed Rover/MG in 2005. Most people saw it coming.

  • Had many happy tours round the West works back in the 1980`s. Maureen Moisey must be thanked. A Brilliant film!

  • anoying think is all the vw the renault the hondas all had 5 speed gear boxs and proper suspension and a bit of rust proofing with it

  • The only family car of the early 80's to have a 5-speed box as standard was the Triumph Acclaim.

  • That French Metro ad is shocking bad!

  • thank you for your kind comment :) it really is bad

  • Very rare cars nowadays, especially here in Ireland.

  • @BLHeritageFilms Thankyou for uploading!!. I have a mk1 minimetro L. It was ziebarted from new. Think that helped the rust issue alot.

  • I also liked the early Metro's gearbox whine. Which always brought back memories of the Austin 1100.
