Thanks for this nice video. I need to make 3 long tapered (or straight) candles, you mention at 7:20 in the video that this system would be good for that. Can you tell me what it is exactly (brand name)? I need to purchase online since I live in Spain.
@RolfReiner The brand name of the candle is called Candle Lite Unlimited made by City Theatrical. I just love this candle. I've been running the one I have in my office and it's still going strong and is beutiful. You can't go wrong using this in a tapered candle. Brace yourself though. They aren't cheap.
@Scaryladyvideos they are awesome! And a decent investment. This is for a magic act that I am building. I will inquire with them, actually the most resilient of the 2 types would be best, due to transport hazard. I guess the led is less fragile, though less effective.
All my props are self-built (see Art of Illusion final cut on my channel). This time it will be a Gothic themed act and your haunting expertise fits in perfectly. I hope you don´t mind a question or two later!
@RolfReiner It would be my pleasure. Just watched your video and it was so entertaining! Love the shots of the kids - they were as enthralled as I was :)
nice the i could not tell the difference once you had them on great and i am doing it with some pvc and a tea light candle i will post a video once i am done with them i have a sperate channel that i may use for it but once i do i will post video responce to it here
Nice how-to video with good info about the current (pun intended!) state of battery powered "candles". I am not a carpenter, but I agree with some of the other commentators here: the shot of you holding the candle & starting to drill it out with the electric drill was scary, lady! I thought maybe this was going to be one of those "FAIL" videos where something went terribly wrong!
Thanks for sharing this! Well done. Maybe you could add prices and candle name in a text overlay for each candle?
Well done! But please, please use something other than your hands to hold the materials when using power tools. That's not the sort of Hallowe'en movie we came to see!
May be it would be better to wrap candle in a towel and secure in a vice whilst drilling out.(Save your precious hands) as we need your expertise on GOE! lol. also could you of melted the inside prior to applying bulb unit ,wax would of dried around it and held it in place, no? Gotta admit lantern hack much more realistic.
Yeah, hubby keeps telling me to get a vice grip ;). I did start to melt one of them with the circuit inside but was concerned I'd melt the bulb circuit itself so I chickened out. Now...if I shielded it, hmmmm
Cool! I'm not handy enough to make them, but I know now to look out for the led kind. Thanks!

LOVE IT! when you say hacking them. How do you do that?
DJEDDX 1 year ago
I drilled out real candles and made a support structure to hold the lighting in place. You can see that in the video.

Thank you so much ScaryLady! I need lots of these babies for our facade this year, and this totally helped me figure out what to get.
I love everything you do here. Don't stop!

BTW - do you happen to know if the "expansion packs" to the latern sets work as stand-alone lanters, or do they only rig up to the pre-strung set?
kablary 2 years ago
They don't come with a DC adapter so you'd have to hack one to it. Would be easy enough. It runs off of 12 volts.
